I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as 'OpenCola' is in fact Libre/Cola, or as I've recently taken to calling it, Libre + Cola.
Calling something 'Open source' does damage the FSF. Open Sources does not imply the free licencing of the software like 'Free' does, and it is wrong to call 'free software' by 'open source.'
>>56112397
>tfw OpenCola its actually a thing
How do I explain to my friend who I just introduced to tech that the raspberry pi 3 doesn't equate to a server. He seems to think that just because it's a quad core with 1.somthing Ghz and 1gb of ram he can out proform a server. I also have a friend who swears that his phone can process just as hard as his desktop.
TL;DR how do I tell people that just because ARM has the "same" specs that it isn't the same as a desktop or dedicated server.
I've even tried explaining that if that was the case then why the fuck do we still have server racks but I guess I'm going about it wrong.
Pls

>raspberry pi 3 doesn't equate to a server
>server
But it can be used as server. VPN, torrent, Minecraft, DNS resolver, DHCP, SMTP, online storage, hosting Apache, RDBMS...
And until it will have to server more than ~10 requests per unit of time it will work fine. Some people claims that after you slap heat sink on it it can get even better.
Expecting normies to understand what architecture and or instruction set is beyond anybody skill. You can try the comparison between Ferrari, tractor and bike but it will be inaccurate as fuck and normies simply doesn't care.
You can't. Give up.

Noctua produces very good hardware, but as long as you got something other than bottom tier unbranded crap, you'll be fine.
There is another laptop like the asus X205TA but that can handle Linux/GNU properly ?

I lost the receiver for my G700s.... Is there a cheaper Logitech device that I can take the receiver from?
And no I usually don't game on it so no need to complain.
Why can't unified receivers for each brand be a thing?
How many would support that idea? I mean I personally only use Logitech products (and an old razor naga), a friend of mine only use SteelSeries and another Microsoft products.
Sure if you game a lot you almost always want to have it wired, but as single adults we are not confined to just a small desk.
>$24 for a replacement receiver
My Zowie has never had this issue
Everyone keeps whining about the web standards being fucked up etc., but it seems to be impossible to decide on a fucking standard and grow a community using said standard to provide content.
Please get your shit together /g/ and do something about it, just remember not to associate too much with the HTML/CSS/JS web and nobody will see the point of using your standard.
It is the only way to come up with a light browser: by killing the very thing that enables the bloat. It will take years though, and content has to be produced.
>>56112095
>web and nobody will see the point of using your standard.
web or nobody will*
>>56112095
Everyone in the web """"development"""" field wants to be their own special snowflake, so forget about standards. People can't even agree on using one framework for a given language so you have shit like django, tornado and a million more floating around for python. PYTHON. That's not even a language designed for web.
One showoff will create their webpage following the single page design """""""""philosophy""""""""" and make it a pain in the ass. Another cunt will hide everything in 20 unlabeled hamburger menus. Another cunt will use flash. Another cunt will use 30 different CDNs to deliver content and 100 different frameworks to parse a json etc.
You can't help it, don't visit sites that piss you off and don't support their creators. We just have to wait it out until the web design meme is over and things return to normal. Right now every "CEO" is searching high and low for the finest hipsters to work for him. It'll change eventually. No telling when.

No more Arch hate threads? :^(
>>56112088
Arch is not for me but the attempt is kind of noble, even if it is a misguided waste of time.
>>56112088
Nobody's hates arch. It's a meme to hate it. Like everything on the planet, it's meant for a specific audience.
>>56112088
Oh my fucking god, i hate arch do much that i need to remind everyone everyday that it's shit.
And if you use it you are an asshole.

Come on guys, not even you can be this stupid.
http://www.theverge.com/2016/8/16/12492152/yik-yak-redesign-local-yakkers-status-updates
>Today the company is eliminating the last traces of anonymity from its app, requiring users to create handles that will be attached to their activity on Yik Yak. It’s also adding 18-character status messages that expire after 24 hours, as well as a feed of nearby users with whom you can exchange messages.
I know it was a shitty app, but it was fun to locally shitpost while on the shitter. Thoughts?
>>56112056
why would any /g/entoomen use this shit app in the first place?
I used it once and it's literally just women complaining about their non-problems
Literally who cares?
That said, I have used both Yik Yak and Whisper to post manlet and fat memes like:
>UGH, WHY DO GUYS UNDER 5'11' EXIST?!
Hoping for a random suicide, but I'll never find out...
>>56112206
It really depends on the area. You can ask questions about the area anonymously, which can be useful, but you can also just shitpost. Sometimes there are also jolly shitposters who make it bearable for the five minutes you need to take a massive dump.

doubtful. the pascal cards are selling just as well as the maxwell cards did.
Maybe that's why Nvidia contracted Samsung for an optical shrink to 14nm?
Is it worth learning in 2016?
>>56111956
But what about performance and maintainability?
>>56111975
It's good overall. Are there any specific aspects are you interested in hearing about? Ruby itself is pretty good language with a sane syntax, and the rails speeds up initial development of application, it's scalable too, there may be other frameworks that offer better scalability but RoR does what it was intended to do and does it well. The downside is that there aren't as many job opportunities as if you were PHP programmer.
>>56112071
What are good resources to learn Rails if I already know Java/Python?
Is the social media market oversaturated? I mean, could a random fag with a friend on graphics duty and a bunch of time make viable social apps that can rival Facebook e.g? Or would the guy have to find something original to do?
Also, is it really possible to strike it rich on apps? Could that guy sell his company (basically all his apps as a package) to Google for example for like 3-4 billion $ assuming it reaches Snapchat-level popularity? Or is that practically impossible?
bomp
Anyone?
>>56111921
I think people are going to stick with what's already there in terms of social media. The only way people start changing is if their current social media platform starts adding changes that everyone hates. That's when they switch to the alternative. If you offer something different that is still considered social media, then people will probably get on board. Snapchat is a good example of this.
Striking rich on apps, probably not unless it explodes and a bunch of suits thinking they got the next snapchat/ pokemon GO/ whatever the fuck.
Are you looking to build something anon?

What is the best way to learn the basic levels of hacking and an understanding of it.
make roblox account ask all the kids for their p433words
>>56111873
Hacking is a myth created by the media. There is no difference between hacking and messing around with black box software.
Honest answer.
Hack is about knowing the system. So study informatics, especially Security.
The more you know how shit is build and work, the easiar it is to exploit it.
If your over 20 and don't know shit or are not in the area, you'll probably never get to a level where you can hack someone
