Please give me your opinion on this /g/:
The only reason people spend hundreds on phones is because they think their social status is gonna rise if they have a "big brand" phone and don't give a shit about the specs.
They're the ones that would be impressed if they saw you with the newest iPhone or Samsung Galaxy S , but if you'd show them a phone with 2k screen , 4 gigs of ram , but no recognizable brand , they'd look at you weirdly and ask you why you'd buy something that's not apple or samsung.
I really never understood why people spent hundreds of dollars of dual core phones with a 320 ppi screen (I'm talking about the iPhones), I live in eastern Europe , so iPhones cost even more (think 1500 bucks for the iPhone 6).
Why? All they care about is a flashy name , as a matter of fact , I guarantee you that if Apple or Samsung would release a single core 800 MHz , standard def , 256mb ram phone , but put a big price tag on it and say that it's their newest flagship , normies would still buy that shit and the best part is that thry wouldn't even notice. They never do.
>mfw iPhones are still dual core and have a gig of ram but are the most expensive phones on the market
>mfw normies actually buy that piece of shit
>mfw people try to defend those idiots by saying that iOS is lightweight and that you can run it on low end phones
>mfw even though they know all of that they still can't explain why apple sells them at an inflated price , other than "oh you see ... marketing expenses and stuff"
>mfw normies would still buy an iPhone even if you'd show them that you can buy cheap phones like Xiaomi , Lenovo , Meizu and heaps of other phones that outperform alot of major flagship phones , you can even put MIUI on it and it'll look and feel like iOS

>buy cheap phones like Xiaomi , Lenovo , Meizu and heaps of other phones
These Android brands save millions of dollars in advertising each year because they have thousands of willing, unpaid shills to post bulshit about how good anythng-but-Apple is.

Question out of curiosity: Is there anyone looking to hire someone with skills in one of those programming languages?
>>56655348
google, probably. In general, though, companies want to hire someone with proficiency in one or more languages, regardless of what they are. After learning a couple languages to a high level, you can learn another one in a relatively short period of time.
Go is good at network and concurrent programming Rust is good for pretty much everything else, especially systems programming.
>>56655348
Lots of people are hiring Go devs because it's one of the best languages to build web site backends with.

Need help identifying a Graphics Card, anyone know what this is? Kinda looks like a OEM GTX 580
Pic of the back of the card
Have you tried connecting it to a pc and opening a program like GPU-Z to see if it recognizes it?
Person is selling a whole bunch of PC parts, I don't have the card and these are the only pics the guy has of it
I'm new to wireless mice and just got a Bluetooth one to free a USB port.
It goes into sleep when I'm not using it to save its battery. When I move it again, it takes a few seconds to pair with the computer again.
Is this the case with every wireless mouse or just this particular model? Is there a difference between Bluetooth and wifi mice in that respect?
What about wireless keyboards, do they also go to sleep and then need time to pair again?
>>56655197
plz /g/ hlp
you are my only hope
They're all different but the bluetooth ones are the worst. Modern mice like my new G900 transmit differently and have different "sleep" methods that wake up almost instantly. Most have settings you can adjust or even turn off the sleep mode maybe but as mentioned they're all different. Not sure about a wireless keyboard because fuck that shit.
>>56655197
Change the power settings. As far as the keyboards no.

I've honestly never had this problem with my non vidya mouse (MX Anywhere 2)
GNU Emacs 25 finally got released.
http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/emacs-devel/2016-09/msg00451.html
Along with all the changes from 2011, the biggest named feature is probably XWidgets support (along with GTK+3), which allows one to embed other programs inside Emacs, most promisingly a decent web browser.
The Emacs OS dream is alive (systemd.el when?)

>which allows one to embed other programs inside Emacs, most promisingly a decent web browser.
The meme dream is coming closer to reality. Maybe I will spend less time making everything like emacs when emacs becomes everything

So my school has a bunch of high traffic unsecured computers, and I want to teach them a lesson about security and test my skills. Where do modern hackers get their tools for infecting? (Viruses, etc.) Google ain't returning shit for results.

What file archiver software does /g/ use?
And why?
Personally using 7z because of the great compression rates.
7zip because it opens .7z files and is open source.
Winrar cuz it's meme
I have a copy of winrar I paid for years ago that I still use.
What is the general consensus on mobile VR? I got a Merge headset today and so far I am really enjoying it. Do you guys have any recommended apps?
Do you see picking up in the future? I can definatelly see everyone having a mobile vr headset at one point in the next 5 years or so, while I would imagine its going to take a bit longer for something like the occulous or vive to take off.

I am generally a really nice guy, but the very first person that I see wearing this shit in public will end up in a hospital.
>>56654944
why?
>>56654971
Because people go to hospitals when they get hurt, dummy. Sheesh. What a stupid question.

You've studied so hard for your "kamputah" degree. Why are you just a measly wage slave, /g/?
Where do you work, and how much do you hate it?
Degree - BS in Information Tech
Title - Network Engineer
Experience - 4 years
Salary - 80k
>>56654780
I'm a wageslave because I don't have the motivation/skills to start my own business or get into freelancing.
I work for a small company in a niche industry doing embedded software development.
It's okay. I find the work interesting enough, but the pay is embarrassingly low (though it's my first job, so there's some hope that I'll get a well paying one someday). It's not that demanding and everyone from my coworkers to the owner are chill af.

Don't hate it at all, I'll always laugh at all that sour grapes shit NEETs says about "b-b-but you're a wage slave"
my boss was throwing stuff out today (work at gas station) and i decided to take this. what do i got here? on ebay going for like $30-$40 bucks but im curious what i can do with it other than sell, from what i can tell its a mini computer (it came without cords so i can boot it up and run it to test)
back part of it uses hdmi cord avg what kind of power cord should i be looking for?
Looks like one of those Intel NUC's.
Probably good for a TV streaming box or something, maybe it'll run some old emulators.
and the model # if anyone wants it
