We all agree Rust syntax is horrible. Here's a list of the major problems and how to fix them, and then maybe people will actually use it someday.

1. No block expressions. No implicit returns. Use the fucking keyword.
2. Take the colon out of declaration syntax. remove the question mark operator. Give us a real ternary operator.
3. Take the "!" out of macros. They should look exactly like function calls.
4. Take the pipe bullshit out of closures. Use balanced delimiters.
5. Take out the "::" that sometimes appears when using templates. There is no reason for having this.
6. Fix all the keywords that were renamed for no reason: "match" = "switch," "let" = "auto," "()" = "void," and so on.
7. Replace the stupid "=>" operator with real case labels so IDEs can actually highlight them.
8. Make mutability the default. Use explicit const for immutable variables and references.
9. Put the type before the variable, not after.
10. Remove the pointless "fn" keyword. It's redundant.
11. Put template parameters before the associated declaration instead of mixing them in with a bunch of other stuff where it's impossible to read.
12. Change "self" back to "this" and make it implicit.
13. Struct fields should be defined with the same syntax as declaring variables.
14. Remove "impl Bar for Foo." You should be able to see all the interfaces a type inherits from at the declaration site.
15. Remove "impl Foo." Methods should be defined inside the struct body, or declared there and defined at the top level.
16. Make parentheses mandatory in if/while/for statements. Make braces optional.
17. Bring back the three-part for loop syntax. There are things that simply can't be expressed without it.
18. Make lifetimes completely invisible. They're implicit some of the time. Make them implicit all of the time, or just remove them. If the compiler can't make this work without a bunch of arcane symbols the programmer has to type, there is no point even having the feature.

Does anyone know what happened to the Windows version of Transmission?

Any good alternative that isn't a botnet or extremely bloated?

In all seriousness, what's the point of this if your cell provider most likely has backdoor access to your device anyway? If the government wanted to read your texts then yea, sure, it would be encyprted if they subpoena'd the xmpp server, but couldn't they just get Sprint / Verizon / ATT to backdoor to your device, which would show everything anyway?

I haven't been up to date with media players since 2013 but back then, MPC was the clear choice. I still have KCP installed from back then but videos don't render correctly anymore for what ever reason. Is MPC still the best choice or did VLC overtake it?
6 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
the only people that would use vlc are normies that are a bit more tech literate than average.

MPV is ok, but you can do much more fine tuning with mpc imo. It's not as /minimal/ as mpv, but it is still the best player.
>>
>>58545412
>did VLC overtake it?
lol no. right now the best choice is either MPC/PotPlayer + madVR or mpv. I'm pretty sure KCP comes with madVR, so you should be set.

i'm a noob. Just got this from a Russian thingy some time ago, that's all. I'm an idiot trying to learn.

Zeus botnet translated. It's the 2009 version though. I know fuck all about programming. I asked some bloke on the dark net and he told me to start programming with APL, but I made the switch to linux and I can't load the right key board font even though terminal brings up apl fairly easily. Then some other bloke said to try A+ instead because it accepts the ASCII stuff and the European layout. But every A+ is about emacs and cancer. I kid you not, no A+ tutorials worth mentioning. They told me APL and A+ allows you to try cooler shit because you're allowed to do more stuff. Then they told me to move onto C but only after I got A+ or APL. I tell them that the zeus translation is in c++, c and php for the command and control bits, and that i'd need a copy of windows server 2010. Not server, the windows thing you use to write c++, the thing that has c#. I have mono of course but fuck if i know how to use it.

Hello /g/

I am a worthless NEET with money in the bank and no idea what I want to do in life. But I do spend a lot of time in front of a computer. I'm curious about learning how to code. My coding experience is pic related. When I was 15 I got a "QBasic for Dummies" book and used the examples therein to make some very stupid games. These included an offline MUSH with about 20 rooms (dense I know) and a game using ASCII characters where you play a bird (at top of screen) and try to poop on people below (bottom of screen).

Now I'm 30. I realize this is pretty late to be jumping in. I'm not sure it's even feasible. I have no illusions of turning this into a job. I'm more interested in getting a working knowledge of modern code. So I wanted to ask you all:

Where do I start, language-wise and resource-wise? I'm thinking of modding a game (Rimworld) as practice and that uses XML and C#

What kind of working knawledge do I need? I literally failed algebra 3 times, not because of stupidity but because I found rote math work incredibly tiresome. Should I just stop now?

Is coding super hard and I should gird myself for years of failure and heartache? Or can I start with simple shit like an alarm clock or something and grow organically out of that?

Is there any specific advice or questions I should ask you or myself before proceeding?

Thank you for your time.

Also I'm not above taking a free online class, but prefer to teach myself in general.

>there are people on this board who actually believe they can spend 100 hours on code academy and code in a way meaningful enough to result in gainful employment

You'd be just as well off dedicating those hours to getting good at crossword puzzles or video games.
