Whgat you fail to realise is because opengl is a broken mess AMD's fairly by the book implementation of it is also a broken mess. Nvidia has so many hacks in their driver for opengl at this point to get good performance from opengl you HAVE to play to Nvidia's tune.

It is a bad API that is broken on everything.

why not? more and more parts of enterprise systems are gravitating towards web-based SAAS, and they need pretty interfaces to look modern and slick to the average pleb

Alright I'm thinking of building my own desktop slowly. Question though I'm thinking of buying this graphics card.

https://www.amazon.com/Geforce-Dual-Fan-Graphics-DUAL-GTX1050TI-O4G-Graphic/dp/B01MYMVAVM/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1494016975&sr=1-3&keywords=Asus+graphics

I'm sure it would do it's job fine. But I'm not sure if I should wait and spend the extra 60 bucks for this card.

https://www.amazon.com/DUAL-RX480-O8G-Radeon-GDDR5-Graphic-Cards/dp/B01MU0OIN5/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1493928120&sr=8-2&keywords=graphics%2Bcards%2B8gb&th=1

Is double the ddr5 worth the 60 bucks or should I just go with 4 gb? Also the radeon is crossfire ready if I ever wanted to throw in a second card later down the line for whatever reason.
I'm obviously a newb at this so any advice appreciated.

If you're going to slowly build a computer I suggest you invest in a high end CPU and motherboard. Those tend to be relevant longer than GPUs.

For instance a 2nd gen i7 is still a great CPU today whereas from the same year, a 580 ti is very much outdated and outclassed by very cheap contemporary cards.
>>
I'm planning on buying a new motherboard and CPU so I could eventually do some over clocking. But for right now I was hoping to use my old mother board and cpu. My motherboard is this

https://www.amazon.com/Asus-Essentio-Desktop-Motherboard-61-MIBF32-01/dp/B00IELZBVA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1494020826&sr=8-1&keywords=asus+cm6730

and it's got the i7-3770 running at 3.4ghz or something.

but I was planning on buying these later.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Asus-X99-PRO-USB-3-1-Intel-X99-2011-v3-Core-i7-DDR4-8-x-DIMM-Motherboard-/252917619461?hash=item3ae3109b05:g:KXUAAOSw~y9ZCcBL

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Intel-Core-i5-6600K-6M-Quad-Core-3-5-GHz-BX80662I56600K-Desktop-Processor-/232067995637?hash=item36085497f5:g:SQAAAOSwFe5XyKXz

I was thinking about buying the i7 but I've been hearing that the i5 can do just as well as the i7 in some cases and for me it's a 100 bucks cheaper.
>>
The 480 is a much more powerful card and will work well for 1080p much longer. Imo is well with the 80 bucks. Vram is also not a good metric to go by for judging performance and you'll be better off looking up benchmarks on YouTube

For a while now I've been wanting a gaming desktop, but this autumn I'm going to be going to school for a trade in Instrumentation and such so I will need a good computer for school, which means I will need a laptop as my current one is a crappy $300 Lenovo G505.

Should I just combine Gaming with School and get a powerful gaming laptop that will be able to not only run games with general ease but also handle my schoolwork? What are the drawbacks of using a gaming laptop for such purposes? Should I just keep with my original plan and get a desktop and a laptop?

underrated. On my Acer laptop with a 750M it always uses the intel for gaming and then the 750M for videos. It only works correctly once the cpu overheats and throttles, which solves one problem but creates another..

there is no good way to use sockets in C++. it's all dusty old C code.
wait for the networking TS.
>>
>>60233570
1. there's no need for "C++ socket programming under linux". Sockets are a C library, no need to add '++'
2. Socket programming is best documented by the manpages. It is the ultimate documentation resource, and the interface has been consistent since decades. Lookup manpages for socket(2), bind(2), listen(2), accept(2), connect(2), ip(7), socket(7), tcp(7), udp(7), recv(2), send(2), read(2), write(2) and it should get you going for basic socket programming. (in case you don't know, numbers represent the manpage category, so just type 'man 7 socket' if you want to read socket(7) manpage). Add getaddrinfo(3) for name resolution. The manpages include basic examples, and you can find plenty online. A book is seldom necessary, but you can take >>60233611 or "Advanced UNIX Programming" - very old books (from the 80's) that are still fully valid today since basis UNIX API doesn't change that much
3. The real deal with network programming aren't the sockets themselves, but the asynchronous I/O. You need to learn about things like poll(2) (or select(2), that is a bit simpler, but poll is preferable). For more complex applications, you should look into event frameworks, libraries that abstract a lot of things for you, but for simple things just using basic functions is easier.
4. Keep in mind that all these functions are VERY generic (unlike Windows) and work the same way for very different protocols and socket types. You can work with raw IP sockets, or TCP, or Ethernet, or with terminals, UNIX domain sockets, files using same functions.
5. For more higher-layer protocols like HTTP, look into libraries like libcurl(3)

So I read a thread and people discussed Windows 10 LTSB, and I was very intrigued. One anon brought up LTSB N 2015 so I was on a hunt for that one, sadly could not find it with ease.
Everyone says if you go with LTSB 2015-2016 it's not as good. So which one do I get?

ZorinOS Ultimate

I was recently given an older version of a Raspberry Pi from my uncle, and I'm looking for cool projects to do with it.
Taking recommendations, anything from turning it into an onion router to throwing it out the window and destroying it with a hammer.
I believe it's the first model, so needless to say I can't install Raspbian Jessie on to it. I've tried, and it didn't work.
Once again, taking recommendations, any cool project ideas will do.
