Is anyone here using GNU/Linux network channel bonding and willing to share their experiences?

I have a home NAS with a RAID6 and a desktop and I've noticed that the gigabit network card tens to be a bottleneck, specially on large files.

I'd like to somehow solve this by using two network cards (since I already have a few gigabit PCI-e cards) on each box.

https://wiki.centos.org/TipsAndTricks/BondingInterfaces

From what i gather mode=6 (balance-alb) would allow each box to send using both network cards but only receive on one so this would(?) only help when sending from the NAS to two other boxes at the same time.

Is there any mode/way I can use channel bonding to get 2 gigabit between my desktop and my NAS?

Also, stupid networking question thread and or networking general.

>Is there any mode/way I can use channel bonding to get 2 gigabit between my desktop and my NAS?
Short answer, no
Long answer, kind of, but you're still using two 1Gbps connections, so no.

Bonding is basically used for fail-overs and handling multiple simultaneous requests at the same time. It is generally NOT used to increase the bandwidth of a single connection, since that usually requires the bonded NICs to support separate protocol that can split packets between both connections. Remember, BOTH ends of the connection must support this bonding protocol, as well as any switch or routers in between.

It's better just to wait for cheap, 802.3bz compatible NICs to start flooding the market. The only one I can think of right now is the Intel X550, which is still $300+ for a single NIC card and you're better off sticking with 10GBASE-T rather than downgrade to NBASE-T.
>>
>>60310322

You'd want balance-rr, not alb
https://45drives.blogspot.de/2015/07/how-to-achieve-20gb-and-30gb-bandwidth.html

It's generally not worth the hassle and might fuck up things because TCP is not really made to deal with packets arriving out of order.
>>
>>60311408
yeah $300+ for a single NIC or $600+ just for two doesn't really seem worth it.

>>60311544
Thanks. Something tells me I'll try with balance-rr eventually, then, even if it's not worth the hassle it's something fun to do in the lack of a cute asian girlfriend.

NOT YET

Iam 18 and i want to pursue a degree in compsci, but a lot of people are telling me not to because of the reason that most companies hire people from india/pakistan to do the work, because it is apparently cheaper. My cousin suggested i do Accounting but i have A level Compsi and i dont mind doing Accounting but Compsci was my first choice. Sorry if my grammer was bad as english isnt my first language. I live in the UK. My apologies if this wasn't the right question to ask, i just dont know who else to ask.

You could always do a sandwich course that has a year of you working.
Apparently that gives you an edge and employers wish to get you back after finishing your degree.

It would mean it takes 4 years over three though, on the other hand you'd stand a good chance of basically covering your student costs with that year of work.
Then again your uni may not offer that.
I know Hertfordshire uni does that, I love in the UK as well.

Personally I recommend you do what you enjoy and feel you're best at.
From my perspective while support workers in the computing industry are many, I was under the impression that we could do more with actual professionals.

go and study what you find interesting and makes you happy, excel in it and you will employ pakis to do coding for you

If you think Microsoft can into aesthetics you're going to be extremely disappointed, Neon will only be a success if they remove the legacy systems entirely, there's no point revamping all of the settings app if you can't perform the same actions quickly.

nah, i realized that only thing i do was shitposting/programming and linux is superior on that, i'm still keeping 40gb windows 7 for C#, but never going to use windows 10. I don't connect to internet in windows anyway, so i can use it after 2020

A computer is a tool for you to work or have fun with. If you spend a lot of time getting the tool itself to work, there's something wrong with it, and it's the operating system you use.

Windows and Linux users can only dream of having access to such beautifully crafted pieces of software that just work out of the box while pleasing your eyes and senses, like OpenEmu.

There's really no rational excuse not to have a Mac unless you're below the poverty line.

Just make 2 functions which he will use.
One will return cached information about location, make it to return TODO location text here 1 TODO. And second function which he will call to force update the cached value which will increase the value in the message.

My retarded Huawei phone's lock screen app has an emergency dial button right in the middle of it. Isn't the fucking PURPOSE of lock screens to avoid doing shit accidentally? Why would you put a fucking emergency dial button in the middle of it?

I tried like a dozen lock screens, they are all retarded, like 90% of shit in the Play store. They shove ads in your face, require over 9000 permissions, or they just plain do not work.

Is there a fucking screen lock app that does just that? LOCK the fucking screen, and require some action so it can't be unlocked accidentally.

Why does such a simple thing not exist, or at least obscure? Do people LIKE retarded bloatware shit with their lock screens, and getting fucked by spyware and ads? They fucking rate these bloatware apps 8/8 and leave inane "reviews" praising them. I'm fucking done with the Play store.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.achep.acdisplay This one was pretty good last time I used it.
>>
The point of a lock screen is to prevent other people from using your phone, not stopping you from pocket dialing. Phones have a proximity sensor for that.
The emergency button is for 2 scenarios. The first one being a situation where you have to make an emergency call and there's no time to be wasted for unlocking your phone first.
The second one is you being the subject of an accident and your current state, be it unconsciousness or whatever, stops you from calling an ambulance yourself, so any other person, including those that don't have a phone, could use your phone to make the call.
>>
>>60310692
It seems like a simple "swipe in any direction" to unlock, which is way easy to do. I couldn't find any option to configure it otherwise.

And again, I don't need notifications and whatnot, just a simple lock screen.

This is objectively true, but are we becoming so reliant on techonology that without it we can not function properly

This could be analysed from few points of view, I am not talking about stuff like that we as a modern society cannot function without refrigirators, witch is true, but more about computers, ""internet of things", smartphones and day to day used, but not needed botnet machines

Current CPUs informations:
>G4560 for budget builds (<$500) unless G4620/i3-7100 is heavily discounted
>i3 are only worthwhile for dwarf fortress & single-purpose emulator boxes
>i5 aren't worthwhile. Get Ryzen 5, drop down to G4560, or up to R7/i7
>R5 1400 is not worthwhile unless discounted
>i7-7700k is good but bad value. If over budget, an R5 is probably as good or better for you
>R7/Xeon for compute/multitask/mixed use, R5 if on budget.

Currently worthwhile GFX cards:
>RX570, RX480(if cheap & not blower), RX580, 1080, 1080TI
>RX570 is usually all you need for 1080p@60hz
>RX550 & RX560 are worth considering if you just need 6 monitor support for cheap and/or play low end shit
>1060 & 1070 are worth considering if you already have a Gsync monitor. 1050Ti is for mITX builds or if on sale at ~$100
>Nvidia GPU + Ryzen has issues in some specific games atm (Civ6, RoTR, Rocket League)
>Budget builds: consider integrated graphics over a card weaker than RX560
>May for Vega

General:
>No brand/model loyalty. Parametric filters on pcpartpicker can help
>Consider larger SSD-only for what you budget SSD+HDD combined. Add HDD later once needed
>NVMe aren't for faster OS boot. They're primarily for productivity as a scratch disk
>Stop fucking confusing any M.2 drive with NVMe. M.2 is a form factor
