People will say i3, but I say awesome.
>in bed, falling asleep
>screens on pc are all long timed out and blanked l
>over time my hard drives start making more and more activity noise and its annoying me
>VPN in with my phone cause i'm lazy and dont want to get up
>activity immediately stops once I'm logged in, nothing is running
>log out
>noise starts again after several minutes
>mfw
>>60313809
Windows (is it?) does indexing when you are not logged in or something else, check out task scheduler and check indexing settings.

Don't listen to him, it's compressing and sending all your chinese cartoons to the NSA.
Serious question.
I am not a programmer or anything. I'm a mechanical engineer, but I understand more than enough about computing.
How possible would it be to make a piece of software for Android, that works as a distributed computing network?
Android is the most used mobile OS.
And most if not all phones have internet access.
so why not use that when charging (so your battery doesn't die).
Any thoughts?
Regardless of politics involved and economics. Is the software possible to do?
>>60313651
Software is possible to do
The serval mesh and open garden come to mind to share communication.
Let me get this straight, you're asking us if it's possible to make an android botnet?
>year of AMD
>nvidia takes all
how long until AMD can compete
Never
$0.02 has been added to your nVidia brand store credit e-wallet.

Shit, I could buy half of AMD with that1

Just liek stop being a brainlet lol

>be 9 years old

>over time, also figure out my way around both the GUI and CLI
>19-year-olds today
>software they use is designed like a toy
>hides boot screen upon loading OS
>error messages give no detailed information
>even what happens during installing/uninstalling software is now obscured
What changed?
>>60313258
>What changed?
Retarded millenials aka the garbage generation, happened.
People are afraid of hacker text
>>60313258
I grew up with that shit and I wouldn't want to go back. It's just nostalgia. You can still dig under the hood if you really want to.
>get Asus laptop
>install gentoo on it
>works great for months
>suddently, no more Wifi
>the PCI bus of the Wifi card isn't detected anymore
>doesn't do it every time, although more and more frequently
>talk to a technician about it
>"hurr duur its poopy loonix wendos werks better"
>actually give him the benefit of the doubt and try other OSs to see whether it's Linux or not
>try BSD
>same fucking thing
>try Haiku on its horrendous terminal
>nope.avi
>send it for repairing
>explain clearly that it is a hardware problem and that I have tested on several different OSs
>it comes back within a week
>check the report
>"Solution: OS resetting"
>they fucking wiped my HDD and reinstalled Winpoo 10
>Wifi works again for a few days
>then, it is out again
>lost my data for nothing
I am ready to take the tech redpill. How do I look for competent people who can repair things and won't just assume I'm a 13 year old gamer spending my time shitposting on Facebook? Warranties were a fucking mistake.
>>60313219
Do it yourself buddy.
>ruin laptop's wifi with excessive generated from compiling Gentoo for a day and a half
>blame Asus
Lol, I a distro that uses binaries like any modern disto should on my Asus Zenbook that I bought last summer and it's always ice cold and everything works perfectly.
>complain to support that wifi doesn't work on unsupported system
>support suggests installing Windows to ensure that it really isn't a hardware problem
>install everything but Windows, wifi doesn't work
>"What the fuck I did literally EVERYTHING right!!"

that site is long dead
Does no one talk about oppatime anymore?

What are the best TVs to buy with zero (((smart))) features? I don't care if it is 4k or not.
>>60312908 Tv without "smart" features is called monitor.
Get any tv and just dont connect it to the net.
>>60312945
I refuse to add to sales numbers of "smart TVs" regardless of if I use those features or not.
Large monitors are significantly more expensive than similarly sized TVs.
>>60312908
Samsung, LG or Sony.
As the title states, I've been trying to teach myself a bit of C++ and I'm unsure which compiler to use. Any recommendations?
>>60313013
gentoo
>>60313304
Would prefer if someone under 400 pounds would chime in.
What OS are you on? gcc, clang, Visual Studio Express are all good. One of the best things about C++ is that you can write standard programs that don't depend on a particular compiler.
You should pay attention to this.

I'm tired of getting fucked by ASUS every month. Which laptop manufacturer has not-shit support ?
Specifically :
- as few custom drivers as possible (the kind that eats 100% CPU for no reason and doesn't get updated for major Windows versions)
- honest support that doesn't make you pay (€75) for fucking nothing when you refuse their repair price and ask to get your computer back
>>60312440
Install gentoo and everything will be ok
>>60312440
>Which laptop manufacturer has not-shit support ?
If you're not a business or enterprise customer, you can go fuck yourself.
t. every manufacturer

thinkpad or hp
Sup m8s. I'm trying to download some recently produced music from youtube but the youtube to mp3 converters I use have stopped working for some reason. Where do you guys get new tunes if the above method failed? Thanks in advance

Meanwhile in Estonia

Today in Estonia, Starman presentated 10Gbps EPON system network that they will start offering to home users and companies.
Thier goal is to cover whole country homes with 10Gbps network by five years with 40% and capital Tallinn by 60%.
In presentation Veiko Tamm and Hans Lõugas tested 10Gbps network at their home.

To be fair most people don't need that much bandwidth unless they're running servers or dedicated seedboxes. Other than that 100mbps is already more than enough for the average joe family streaming netflix and shit.
The real problem is how shit wifi routers are. Hopefully 802.11ac routers with 4 80MHz spacial streams become the norm soon.
In the US I have 1gbps currently for $100/month.
I have the availability of 2gbps from another ISP for $149.99/month. But since 2gbps isn't possible without 10gbps NICs, it would be an expensive upgrade for my entire network (~$1000 at least)
I am more than fine with this for now.
I dont know shit about 3d printers but an 3D artist, really looking to buy one.
I heard that some parts overheat or something and that there are good printers which print detailed models, for low price .
So, what are the options ?
