Alright you /diy/kes. I bought a vacant house.
Fixing everything up to code is straight forward, there is one thing I'm wondering and can't find if it's up to code or not.
The bathroom I had to take off all the plaster and cement to take off the wooden lath to get to the lead pipes.
Now that it's off, I really like the look of it and don't want to cover it up with shitty drywall. So I was thinking, put walls of lexan or glass up and you can then always see it as well as the room being water proof from the inside!
One problem that was pointed out to me is I couldn't do it out of Lexan or other plastic as it will not slow fire/smoke (a main point of dry wall/plaster). But what about glass? It would have to be safety glass lika a sauna but would it meet the interior wall code?
I have my mind set on showing off these walls so I'm asking if anyone has seen/dealt with glass walls before or finds references with the answers.

I have two book matched slabs of walnut, paired length wise so they're symmetrical. They're live edge in the interior edge, so there's a gap between 0.25" and 2.5"

I'd like to cast aluminum or another low melting point metal to fill the gap.

What kind of casting process should I use? Any tips? I'm worried about the 'resolution' of the mold and getting the cast to fit perfectly.

Tin, tin and more tin. Go to local 2nd hand stores and scrounge up all the pewter you can find. Get an old pan and melt everything down, form a little dam around the area you want to work with with clay then pour the molten tin to fill the void(s). No it wont burn the wood, use sharp tools to cut flush then sand and finish.

Did this with a lathe turned box that had some checks and it came out great. Same process should work in your application just make sure you have enough material.

visit rotomeatals for material

That's a really fantastic idea. I'll post results in a week or so
>>
why not just trim it flush?
or at least trim the outer edge and use another like-colored wood to make a filler piece?

Anyone know the best way to get a nail centered inside of a metal pipe, air tight? Optimally i dont want to have to use a welder of any kind, i dont own one.

How? also that might cause issues with air pressure, this is gonna have around 800 psi inside of it
>>
to clarify, you want the nail suspended inside along the axis of the pipe, or radially pointing to the center?

Hai!

I am about to start my small business. I have a few euqipment to repair phones (mostly LCDs) but i find most of the power tools expensive as hell. There is a new method to separate LCDs called Cryogenic Freezing. This method is about to freeze the LCDs with liquid-nitrogen. I am wondering if it is possible to build at home what chinese did if is possible how does this machine looks like from the inside?

Look up tin whiskers, they grow from lead free solder and will short circuit electronics. If you have a microscope look at the sodder, you should see tiny hairs sticking out from the sodder. Fix it by scrubbing the circutboard with a toothbrush. Just make sure you don't tear off any of the circuts. After 4 years all electronics are guaranteed to have these nano whiskers growing in them, but the whiskers will start growing the second the circut is powered on

A while back the double 30 amp breaker that was powering my air compressor for some reason melted one of the aluminum fingers in the breaker box off I have now gotten around to replacing it, but I replaced it with a double 50 amp breaker... now my motor just hums but does not engage how ever when I first turned it on it ran for 3 seconds maybe and made a lot of smoke not sure exactly where it was coming from and the compressor and fuse box are on opposite sides of the garage, it has 3 capacitors on top.... any info would be great
9 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Are you sure the compressor doesn't need 3 phase input?
>>
>>1066255
The reason the contact melted was the compressor motor was failing, most likely a high resistance short in a winding.

The higher amperage breaker allowed the motor to pull enough amps to completely burn up and have a winding go open.

I would recommend you test the motor and replace it if needed, also, reinstall a 30 amp breaker unless the wires run to are capable of handling a 50 amp load.
>>
>>1066330
it had been running for 8 or 10 years as was so I assume it was the right setup
>>1066363
took one to the capacitors out of the top, took it to the local plumbing and electric store they tested it and said it was bad going to try replacing it later and see what happens... also inside the outlet the white wires coating and been hot at one point it appears

Can i plug a bass guitar into the aux input on this thing? Poor for a mo th but i am getting a bass to learn. This thing sounds okay enough to begin rocking out but i dont wanna fry my guitar or radio.

Would active powered bass blow shit?

Should i find a way to make it inactive or trade for one till i can get an amp?

Thanks electronics gurus in advance. I can do basic solder and circuitry but i cant find info on this. Not affraid to risk it. Bit if im missing an obvious fire in the making a heads up would be nice.

worse case you blow your stereo.
i'd recommend you use headphones on low volume.
>>
>>1065825
If active means it has an in built preamp then it should work. The problem will be if your stereo has small speakers and a poor bass response. If you push small speakers hard on bass you may fuck them.

I'd recommend getting in some Facebook groups and seeing what the locals want, especially if you're in a smaller town.

I make shitty dining room tables for about 80 bucks and sell them for 600+ without the chairs. Matching chairs for an extra 75 a piece.

I also buy diesel trucks in another state and bring them over for a huge profit because they're pretty much unavailable here.

It all depends on what the market is like where you are.

12V
11A per pin

Wiki has more stats if you search "molex"
>>
>>1065117
They will happily take more than 10A per cable, which should be more than enough for any realistic scenario you want to use them for. If it's in you PC what you need to worry about is if your PSU can actually deliver enough power (on the specific rail) without shutting down, dropping voltage or going up in smoke.

Rule of thumb is that if you need adapters to power high loads (like graphics cards) with your PC PSU it will probably be not strong enough and in the worst case not safe (as in it will kill your hardware). Before afro engineering it in a situation like that with adapters make sure your PSU can handle it.
>>
>>1065117
In theory 11a, but I wouldn't trust it past 5a, it just takes a little bit of resistance in the connector to melt it

I'm looking to build a biothane choker/collar for someone. As part of the construction, I need rivets to attach hardware.

My problem is that these rivets need to be:
- double cap rivets--they will be up against the person's skin so they need to be comfortable and smooth on both sides
- nickel free--this person has a mild/moderate nickel allergy
- silver in color (like stainless steel, aluminum, etc.)

I have spent several hours on google trying to find what I'm looking for, with no luck. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Does what I'm looking for even exist? Any suggestions for alternatives?

Pic sorta related I guess.

Oh, also: I don't want to use nickel rivets and just cover them with a varnish. I feel that's cheap. I want the finished product to be able to stand on its own.

I asked about this a couple of days ago on last thread, and now that I am doing it I am confused no how to solve this one.

Using nodal analysis, I am unsure if I wrote the correct equations since the position of Voltage V2 in the middle kind of confuses me. I dont know if its affect all of the resistors in that part (R4, R5, R6) or if I should just consider it for R4, R5 and R3.

>>1061777

This is also another one I wanted to ask on.

I know that theres a supernode up there, but I am unsure as how to consider that current there which is parallel to the voltage source. Is it going out of the supernode?

My intuition tells me that it goes out but then it goes... back into it? But I maybe talking out of my ass.

I did those equations but, then again, would like some insight.
>>
>>1061777
Almost. The last term for V1 should have V1-V3 not V1+V3, and the second term for V2 should have V2-V1 not V2-V4.

The equation for the current at a node (by KCL) will only refer to the impedances of the edges incident to that node (i.e. R3,R4,R5 for V2).

Thus, the values of R1,R2,R6 will only affect V2 via their effects upon V1,V3. I.e. the KCL equation for V2 won't refer to R1,R2,R6, but solving the system of equations will give a value for V2 in terms of E1,I1 and all 6 resistances.
