Evening /diy/ I need some suggestions...

My condominium has tall windows with single-pane glass that, even though I own the condo and everything within it, I cannot alter.

To put it short, I hear just about anything and everything on the street below, and it's bad. Any asshole man-child on a crotch rocket that rides by, any drunk POS yelling on the street below, the air conditioner unit on a building nearby that's gone bad and no one seems to want to fix, I hear it all.

I am desperate to find a way to deafen the noise in this place so that I can finally sleep an entire 8 hours for once. I don't need to be able to open the windows since I can use the AC relatively cheaply, but I want to be able to use the blinds.

So far the only solution that I have come up with is Indows, which are basically just acrylic sheets that are secured in the sash and can also help with any drafts I might have, and that sit behind the blinds. The problem is I don't really have an idea what those will cost given the sizes of each sash.

Would this be something I could make myself with the same outcome? I have access to 8' sheets of .125"(.118) thick acrylic and a half a million dollar CNC router that I can program. I just don't know what I would use for the edges to seal them as best as possible.

Does anyone have any suggestions for this? Should I just buy the Indows?? More pics incoming.

I just got a RP3ModelB, I'm running RetroPie V4.0.2(the latest i believe) I've had absolutely no problems with SNES,GBA,PSX,etc. The one thing i really want is MAME&NeoGeo, Everytime i select a MAME/NeoGeo game, i get sent back to the list of games on emustation. No error message, just fades to black then back to the menu. I've tried different emulators, different Bios, different ROMS, I even tried a different OS. I was hoping FBA would work but nothing. If anyone can suggest something to fix this, thank you! I really got this thing to play Arcade titles so its a little frustrating.
I tried /v/ and i tried /g/, they sent me to you guys, thanks again

Is there a way to remove 5 layers of paint without disturbing the original baked enamel? Now that I've removed the nameplate I have a better picture to provide context to my question
16 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
Really would depend on what kind of paint you're removing. If latex then peeling and scrapping with a plastic scraper would work. If oil based you could try solvents and heat.
>>
>>1067705
paint stripper will not effect enamel, enamel is baked on glass.

Hey DIY I'm thinking about building my own ring, does anybody have experience on this? The problem it's that I'm working on a concrete floor and I can't attach the anything to it. I was thinking about making a cross on the floor with thin metal where each post it's based on and covering the estructure with tatami floor to avoid any harm. Any ideas o any experience on this? Sorry about my English, I couldn't explain better.

Put a small pool in, just big enough for a king sized mattress. Add 1 part water, 1 part mattress. Use as base.

To remove, use crane

Hey /DIY, repaired my old sennheisers today with a new headphone jack but the levels are off. I'm no audio expert but guitar and bottom end of voices seem off, I'd guess this is treble?

What could I have done wrong to cause this, guessing it'd be the solder to the ground?

Well aware that you're all sick to death of headphone threads but I've had no luck with google and will delete the thread as soon as I've got what I need.

you need gold plated connectors bro

in all seriousness you're probably right, just resolder the ground. you're likely hearing the left and right signals feeding into each other which is going to sound like an absolute mess
>>
>>1067137
Ah OK cheers man, I'm the absolute worst at soldering so a little more practice can't do me any harm

Yeah bruv this: >>1067137

My guess is the shield (ground) wire is a nasty braided fray of a million tiny copper wires. It can be quite tricky to get those resoldered right. Make sure you get them twisted together as well as possible and then tin them with the solder. Then you just gotta be careful and solder it to the connector right. It can be messy with those braids, they're bulky.

I have a need for a 'device' that would keep a glass jar (mostly empty) slightly warmer than surroundings - let's say the room temperature is about 15 degrees Celsius, and I need to keep the jar at about 20. The jar is w/o the lid (just a piece of cloth on top).

My ideas so far:
a) make a resistor "strips" that I place IN the jar, glue at the walls.
-I have little to no idea how many resistors/what type I need to use, I guess I would need help with the calculations and I don't really know anyone with such skill.
+I could control the temp with arduino (assuming the power output of arduino is good enough).
+Probably quite even heat distribution

b) use this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Fast-USB-Tea-Coffee-Warmer-Heater-Cup-Mug-Pad-4-Port-USB-Hub-Office-PC-Laptop-/171778468698 somehow, probably with a gap between the jar and this (I need ~20, not 60)
-I have no idea how well the heat will distribute (what do you think)?
+Easy as fuck to put in place.

What should I use? Is it hard to calculate how the resistors should be used? Could I get some material on that?

>>
>>1067092
just put a light bulb near it
>>
>>1067093
Could that be an infrared lighbulb? I don't want a a visible light one.

But I would still prefer the resistor strips (or something more compact and what I can power from USB) more, if it sounds sane and would work.

Alright /diy/ I'm looking to get serious and start bolstering my skills as a furniture carpenter. What are some resources, be they books/videos/whatever That can help me build a solid foundation of knowledge?

I've been making furniture for 25 years on and off, the greatest teachers I've had have been experimentation and YouTube, I've learnt more tricks and ideas from YT in the last ten years than I ever did from anything other than just trying shit out.

If you are trying to make money then stick with the staple items people will always need, tables, chairs/benches and storage of all kinds from chests of drawers to boxes, chests and shelves, once you've got a steady stream of customers then you can get more creative in your spare time and see what works for you.

Personally I sell a lot of tables, they're easy to make and sell well, shelves sell well also, I will sometimes build a table and take it to a few of the smaller independent retailers to see if they want to sell my stuff, I also take individual orders when I can.

I will make anything I can turn around in a fast enough time and make a profit from it.

outside of the dangers related to breathing in any type of dust, in there any inherent danger to cutting and using untreated 2x4 studs?

i know treated lumber, in addition to having a greenish hue, is marked 'MB.' most of the cheap lumber i buy from big box stores is warped, KD HT pine. if lumber is stamped KD HT, does that mean that it hasn't been treated any other way and is safe for use?

Has anyone ever cast their own engine blocks? Even as a hobby 50cc single piston engine, making something like that from scratch would be pretty amazing, and I'd love to make a block for a project car eventually; something ridiculous, like a 2L V10 engine.

Casting an engine block is easy once you get the tempature control settings and formula for the cast aluminum... Machining all the bits and pieces is the hard part.

Not impossible tho.

If ur serious and I strongly doubt you are. But making and casting 500cc straight 4 two stroke motors. I can promise you now its an untapped market because muh environment.... (even tho a two stroke harnessds 50% of the fuels optimal power. Unlike a four stroke that only harness 30%)

Gokart, marine, ohv, street motorcycles, and possibly the snowmobile market (tho they are still some of the reminding two stroke engine markets actually making them left.) are all untapped.

Hi /diy/
I finally bought myself a boat similar to the one above. It's an old Whaler, but modernized with features like internet, televisions, livingroom etc. Its about 44 meters long, and the engines are in top shape.

So, now I'm playing with the thought of making money with it.

My idea so far is to arrange some sort of expedition where each partisipant will pay x money for y distance traveled/diesel. Food/beer etc included in the price.

what do you think? any suggestions on how i should run things?

its a sea full of options!

There's no circuitry to convert from analog composite (RCA) or VGA to digital. Think about it: Why would the PSP convert it's GPU's digital output to analog, for the panel's controller to convert back to digital?
