Got a serious question, I'm writing my own comic and realize that most publishers require some accompanying art/full pages before they will even look at it. I'm trying to think of all my possible options and I came up with these.

Option 1, learn to pencil and letter myself and pay someone else to ink and do cover art. I'm also going to have to act as my own editor but that shouldn't be too much of a problem because I'm more/less already dong that. Afterward, I have nothing to do with the artist.

Option 2, pay the artist/letterer for all the work they do (SUPER EXPENSIVE) and then when they're done have nothing to do with them.

Option 3, teamup with an artist and share the credit for the title. I maintain creative control over storylines ahd character development but they will be in charge of dictating how the world should look as well as influencing all major aesthetics found in the series. In this pairing, I'm more than willing to listen to story suggestions from the artist and will incorporate them if they are really good. Obviously most artists would rather be paid up front but they can get fucked if they think they can get anything afterward.

If anyone knows of other options that are available to me or if I have a very large misconception about the submission process I'd really appreciate hearing them.

This is pretty much what I'm doing myself, writing, drawing, inking, coloring and lettering all by myself. However, I don't know how much experience you have in these fields. Have you been drawing since you were a child or is this new to you? Have you had any lettering classes? This is all important because, unless you're a natural/your style is appealing to publishers, you probably won't be able to get your story published.

Not a very good idea, since the comic book industry is all about connections and making friends. These kind of work conditions aren't going to endear you to your artist and/or letterer, and you may have trouble finding future collaborators unless you're loaded.

This is probably the best option if you're not very good at drawing. Comic books should always be a collaborative process and I think this way you can build bridges and make good contacts.

Even though you're not planning to make a webcomic, you should also build up a strong online presence, that way some people will know who you are and may be willing to look at your stuff (publishers) or buy it (readers).

Anyway, that's my own personal take on the whole thing, take it or leave it.

An individual finds themselves blessed with incredible power and I chronicle their unwilling journey to become the world's greatest supervillain (I swear there is so much more than that but I can't give anything away). It's going to be my take on the superhero genre wherein I examine many of the classic tropes and turn them on their head. I currently have it planned to run 80 issues, with every 8 issues serving as a "season". Each season can be broken into two halves of four issues, and each half can be broken into two 2 parters.

That's actually some good advice. I'll continue working on my art to see if I can improve (Im not bad but I can't consistently draw images so I'm now pushing myself to practice a couple hours each day). I'm hoping I can make a connection with an artist but I'm only going to throw the net out once I have all the scripts (first 8) finished. Otherwise I feel like I'd never leave the planning phase.

This was the peak of Superior for me. It was fun having an unrestrained SpOck who had the presence of mind to shut down every trick the villains would try to pull.

It started getting old pretty soon after this arc, though.

I kinda wish Ock ended up with his own Rogues gallery that were fundamentally different from Pete's, thus requiring a new way of operating that he wouldn't be used to. Kinda like what happened to Dick Grayson when he took on the mantle of Batman. It's like Gotham itself changed the rules of the game to accommodate the new player. Shame that didn't happen here.

Honestly, I don't like the Superior phase at all.

Looking back at it, it's not a bad concept. A super villain becomes the hero and tries to better themselves? I can dig it.

But the way Slott had to make everyone absolutely brain dead for it to work angered me to no end. There are so many characters that should immediately seen through it, but thanks to Slott's stupid pills, everybody's just like "huh, Spider-Man's actin' kinda funny"

I wanna know how Carnage keeps continuously convincing people to ally themselves with him considering he's literally killed past teammates. RIP Doppleganger

There's something I've always liked about Carnage, but at the same time its also a concept that worked a lot better when it was first introduced more than these days for some reason I can't define. Venom is threatening because he makes it personal for Peter each time, but Carnage is threatening taken up a notch in a different direction. If he's loose then things are going to die, there's no question. He will create the most amount of harm, he'll do it in deranged ways.

Even if he kills, it doesn't has as much weight to it in recent stories. Back then he spoke to something in humanity that Spider-man couldn't deal with properly, there was no answer for, and you couldn't fuck around with him like other villains since he's liable to do anything and isn't bound by the same logic. Closest its gotten to capturing that feeling I think was Carnage USA where he took over a small American town for the hell of it. Back when Spider-man was more of a grounded crime drama, introducing a serial killer who was deranged felt pretty dangerous. He's basically a combination of two horror movie monsters in one.

Also that short story where Carnage symbiote was hopping between hosts throughout America to find Cassidy was very alien in nature.

Think also the problem with recent stories is they make him too much of a hick, and too corny at times.

Its like Freddie Kruger, it needs that right balance between the corniness, jokes, and contrast between his brutal actions. If Freddie is too jokey, then the contrast doesn't come across.

Part of it might also be that these type of villains became more common, so it doesn't really raise the same ire. Now any villain might be deranged and kill like this at times?
