In most iterations he's just as competent as his brothers and the one most inclined to just follow orders and go with the flow without butting heads (Raph) or trying to implement their own plans (Donnie).
Likewise, he's more athletic and skillful than Donnie, but more level--headed than Raph while being less severe than Leo, so he brings his own to the table while his more docile personality holds the group together.
In some iterations, it's even mentioned that he's the most naturally talented turtle, which is how he keeps up with his brothers while putting in a fraction of the training.
I agree that they went too far with 2012 Mikey, though. He's an actual retard as opposed to a scatterbrained slacker like previous versions.

Studios and DC Comics that brings the heroes of the Green Lantern Corps to a post-apocalyptic world where apes reign supreme.
>BOOM! Studios has given us the exclusive reveal of the cover to Planet of the Apes/Green Lantern #1, which was drawn by iconic Green Lantern artist Ethan Van Sciver.
>Planet of the Apes/Green Lantern is a six-issue mini-series that will be co-written by Robbie Thompson (Silk) and Justin Jordan (Green Lantern: New Guardians). The series will be drawn by Barnaby Bagenda (The Omega Men). Alongside this cover, BOOM! revealed that issue #1 will feature variant covers by Steve Morris, Paul Rivoche, Felipe Massafera and David Ryan Robinson.

It's both a reboot and a new thing.
Both sides are clashing with each other, and that's why it's struggling.

They go directly to middle school and the classic villains are there, but they're no longer the main line-up of villains and have been made into background characters. They're now replaced with terrible villains whose names you don't remember, the show no longer focuses on fighting, the fighting itself is too slow, and they've censored any actual hit with SFX cards.
It's a bastard child of the original and is nowhere near as successful, but somehow, it still gets a lot of views. I don't understand it.
