>VEGAN scientists have announced the discovery of something else they can talk about apart from their veganism.
>The discovery was made this weekend following months of research which mostly consisted of talking about the perils of veganism and what good vegan recipes they knew.
>Vegan scientist, Julian Cook said: “Being a vegan, this subject matter is obviously of great importance to me.
>“As vegans we are always looking to expand our horizons and try new things so this second topic of conversation will hopefully open a lot of doors for people.”
Woah... so this is the power of vegan "science"
hah

I want to give a try to more recipes with vegetables on my daily diet, but first I want to go straight with an easy one, what do you think of eggplant bacon?
https://minimalistbaker.com/crispy-eggplant-bacon/
I kind of want to prepare this in the morning, thoughts?
>slice something really thin and the lather it with oil, seasoning, salt, and pepper
Yeah I think it'll taste fine.
>>9022344
I think it will taste good but nothing like bacon, as is usually the case with bean imitation foods
>>9022810
Vegan not bean. Darn auto correct xD
Gotta bring food to work tomorrow, was trying to think of something a little unusual because I know things like brownies and pies always end up being brought in duplicate.
Was thinking of pseudo-gyoza but since I've never made them before I was just going to make char siu pork and chop it finely for the filling to take some of the experimentation factor out of it (I've made char siu lots of times and my recipe is good). Would this be super disgusting?

Bring chips and salsas
Maybe a steamed bun would be better for that senpai
>>9022219
For me, the best option would be to bring enough Big Mac's for everyone.
who /oaxaca/ here?
discuss your favorite cheeses and what dishes you prefer them in.
>>9022133
>oaxaca
>not garrotxa
Halloumi is best cheese. Fried with oil in a pan, served with cracked black pepper and some good olive oil. Based AF.

don't mind me, just giving every dish a load of umami goodness
let's have a thread about tips on making bread & tortillas
how would you make tortillas so good that the beaners need to have you shut down? how would you make a good, tasty bread?
>>9022017
>tortillas
Get local corn and play around with ratios of different varieties
If you don't live in a place where corn grows then you're fucked
>Bread
Get local grains and play around with ratios of different varieties
If you don't live in a place where wheat grows then just focus on basics and get the closest grains you can (read:you're basically fucked)

You need fresh masa, sold in markets like in a bag in a big ball kind of like how you see pizza dough sold, sourced at a real latin grocery to make awesome tortillas. Just buy some locally made brand if that can't be done.
You can however buy bags of goya masarepa "instant" style flour and pat out your own arepas to pan fry. Similar to a moist pupusa, I actually prefer them. I make them with hot milk, not water. Go Colombian!
Fresh tortillas are amazing, find a nice old mexi lady to teach you. Buy a comal in your local Mercado Latino. If you want to go hardcore, make fresh hominy/masa but if you're sane, just buy the masa mix.
Masa can be used for more than just tortillas, you can make tamales, sopes, whatever
Ok co/ck/s, I'm pretty sure the first time I saw this was on here and there's gotta be one of you who will recognize what I'm talking about.
It was this video of a woman cooking like two hamburger patties (I think with cheese?) in a waffle maker and when she opens the waffle maker it looks like a boiling swamp of grease. I'm pretty sure it was originally an instagram video. pls 2 halp
also food gore thread or whatever I guess
What is the best brownie mix I can get from any store /ck/

Ghirardelli double chocolate. Triple chocolate may be a bit too rich for some, but if you like it that way then go for that.

Does anyone grow their own produce? I dont have much room, but my dragon cayenne peppers are ready to harvest.
Im gunna make a pepper sauce
14 peppers
1 small onion
3 cloves garlic
1 tbsp ginger
1/4 cup vinegar
1 drop fish sauce
1 tsp salt
Cut 10 peppers in half, onion in quarters and bake the halves, onion and garlic at 350 for 30min. Then just add everything in a food processor until its pureed.
Put the puree in a ball jelly jar, hopefully I get 1 cup or more.

I used to do a small garden before I moved. Now we just grow weed and cooking herbs - mostly basil since we go though a ton of it
>>9021717
My family is currently growing two kinds of beans, peas, ornamental corn, zucchini, raspberries, heirloom tomatoes, squash and cucumbers. We also have a fuckton of raspberry bushes.
Gardening used to be fun but now it's a full-time job
Not full produce, but I do grow a few herbs in my windowsill. Basil, thyme, chives. I'm going to start dill soon.

Is there any sort of dish which makes use of undercooked pasta? Where it's not completely limp but has a soft crunch?
>>9021283
You can cook pasta to diffrent firmness in any dish
i tend to finish off cooking my pasta in the sauce, tastes and looks better
The fuck is there to eat around here? I've just been getting Cookout and Bulldog Burger recently.
Also, what is there to do beyond eating? I never get a very straight answer from anyone.
Come to Oxford. You won't be welcome, but it's your only option.
I'm pretty new to cooking, and I just poached my first egg. I've always heard from people that poaching a good egg is difficult but I found it pretty easy, with suggestions from my mum!
What do you guys think? I'll post the first cut in a second.
Tasted great, by the way.
Egg is under cooked. Over hard or gtfo
