Holy fuck it's disgusting, i'm not usually the kind of person that doesn't finish something but there's no sugar. that's bearable on it's own, but they add fucking salt. It's a salty yoghurt drink. disgusting.

What's up with soylent?

How can one subsist on a liquid for months at a time?

Maybe I'm missing something here but, don't you need some solids in a diet to feel satiated? Even a (good) soup has chunks of vegetables or meat in it.

I only ask becasue my brother starting drinking liquid breakfasts as he doesn't have time to prepare anything. Apparently it works. How!?

Humans are pretty good at adapting to whatever is available. Anecdotally I find it a lot easier to shut down my cravings with the knowledge that I know I have had enough calories to not be starving.
>>
Also if you look up diy soylent it is basically an oat smoothie with some protein powder, a multivitamin and some flavoring. If you think about eating oats with a protein shake in the morning you would think that is a decent meal.
>>
>>9026076
Not so much that your BODY needs solids, but your MIND craves the texture of food. Same way that some people don't crave soda/pop, they crave the carbonation.

Many people don't quit soylent because of taste/boredom, but because they felt extremely isolated because we live in a culture that (usually) connects around food.

So today I was officially diagnosed with acute ulcerative colitis. Because this is hereditary I know there are many foods that upset this (dairy, beef, pork, whole grains, oily foods, high fiber foods). What are some meals I can make that are healthy and wont cause me to shit more blood and mucus

What are some great, simple pasta recipes?
I've made aglio e olio a couple times using blubbering with reddit a few times, and after modifying the ingredient ratios (not enough pepper flakes, way too fucking much oil) and I'd like to expand out from there.
The low ingredient count is what really appealed to me on that dish so preferably some dishes that don't involve cooking and managing three things at once or other "timing" things

Get some garlic and pepper flakes going like you're making aglio olio but add chard when the garlic gets fragrant. The stalks take longer to cook so you should separate them from the leaves and cook them first then add the leaves after a few minutes. When the chard's done, mix in your pasta. Finish with parmesan. If you use the chard stalks it'll dye your pasta red and it looks kinda weird but it tastes awesome. Works best with bowties, imo.

Not really a "pasta" recipe but, cook bacon in a pan and remove when it's done to your liking. Don't fucking remove any grease. Soften some onions in the grease and when they're just slightly brown, remove them too. Then add green cabbage. When the cabbage is done, clear some space in the pan and toast some black pepper and paprika for a minute or so before adding the onions and bacon back and combining it all together. Mix in cooked egg noodles (I think shorter shapes like the ones in the pic work best). If at any point things are looking too dry you can add some butter.

Also, this chef john recipe is pretty simple and is one of the most delicious things ever. A few more ingredients in this one, but you don't even need to boil the pasta in a separate pot.

buy a bunch of cheap tomatoes, put them in your blender, strain them ------>delicious tomato water
>put in pan, add oliveoil, pepper, salt to taste, cook down a bit
>high heat, add pasta
>add pad of butter, parm and pasta water and emulsify
>maybe finish with fresh basil

freshest tasting tomato sauce ever, the tomatowater keeps 2 days in the fridge easily, rest is a walk in the park and if you have a mixer and something to strain its really not a lot of work

I was at my local Chinese buffet the other day and the wantons ran out after my first plate. Now I am a four plater nowadays and wantons are the backbone of my experience. I played coy and put some eggrolls and crab/cheese bake on my plate, with some sweet and sour chicken and pot-stickers to round it off. I am thinking to myself that if my third trip doesn't include wantons I will be very upset. As I grab a fresh plate my face is red and I am thinking about what I will scream for the entire room to hear. The beautiful food runner glides over the floor with a fresh pan of wantons just for me. All the worry was for nothing.

If I sign for a big order but am too hungover to look through everything right then and sign anyways, will you still replace/credit something that's missing or bad? I mean, I see you once or twice a week, and sometimes hook you up with some food if you aren't in too much of a rush.

Has this fad finally reached the unexplored lands between the Hudson River and the Diablo Range? My favorite wrap to get with a french press at the cool hip coffee shop is a hummus, feta, sun dried tomato, kalamata olive, and mango salsa wrap. All the latest ingredients rolled into one!

As for the french press (it's fancy because it's "french"), you can make the coffee dark roast please!

As you can see I've turned into a bit of a coffee snob lol.

I want to cook paella, never done it before. Just wondering what /ck/ likes in their paella?

Been thinking about just simple seafood; scallops, clams, shrimp, squid and mussels.

Sounds good. You can throw in some chicken legs/drumsticks or whatever they're called too if you want. Try to get the big tiger shrimp and throw them in whole.

Scallops I've never eaten in a paella. Some people add chorizo but I find that ruins the taste.

Best thing ever are those tiny squids and tiny and tiny muscles-like thing my grandma used to add. Can't remember what they're called though.

Hey friends. I am new to cooking, but I have been having fun so far! My mom bought me a frying pan and I bought some county style ribs!
Diced 3 garlic cloves, and one red onion! crushed some cilantro into a paste with my mortar and pastel. Before heating pan that
my mom bought for me I coat it with some olive oil! As I see the oil bubble I drop in the garlic and let it get going. When I smell garlic
I drop in the red onion! Cook it on low heat until the garlic and onion is broke down. Pour cilantro paste in the pan as I turn of the heat!
Set it aside like the I have seen. Bring out my other pan that I bought myself ;)
Scrape contents of first pan into new pan and set it on low heat while I ad some red wine and let it reduce!
Use oil/stuff covered pan to cook the country style ribs. Pour a smidge of olive oil over it first ;)
Let the four pieces cook about 4 minutes each before turning them with he tongs I bought from the thrift store!
When they are almost finished I place them in the pan with my reduction and turn the heat up until I hear the mixture bubbling!
Placed it on a plate in my studio apartment, and ate it alone.

That sounds kind of depressing, and I'm wondering why you didn't just caramelize white onions instead of cooking red ones, but all in all sounds brettt gud regardless.
>>
>>9025837
Thanks for the reply friend! They caramelized a bit in the final pan, when I finished off the ribs within the reduction. But maybe I should do it differently? I like to cook(or maybe fry is a better word) onions and garlic in a pan with olive oil to create a flavorful base to fry the meat in! Are white onions better than red? I always like the taste of red ones! Not sure why you think cooking is depressing? I am having a great day,I hope you are to!
>>
>>9025856
It was the alone part that made me sad, but yeah, imho red onions are better served raw while white ones are better for cooking. I'd even caramelize them separately so you get a good, fully-cooked texture that blends with the tenderness of the ribs. That's just my opinion, though, obviously we'll like different things. Sounds good though! If I didn't have to open at the chain place I cook at tomorrow I'd probably have a better night lol.

I used to work at an "Uncle Maddio's" (Think Subway or Moe's but for pizza" and I always loved to get
