What is simplest dish you can make that tastes and people think is really complex?
I'm looking for the best ratio of low input to great reception on the part of friends and family.
I've been told French Onion Soup isn't hard just take a bit of time, is that true?

Yes, that's true. French onion soup is incredibly easy, but it takes quite a bit of time, because the onions require deep caramelization. But yeah, that's a soup that everyone loves and most people are easily impressed by, but it's easy as fuck to make. You HAVE TO use quality ingredients, though.
>>
>>7350196
Throw honey in spaghetti with tomato sauce
trust me
>>
>>7350196
no it is not true
Onion Soup is a classical example of classical French cuisine, which is mostly concerned with taking meh-tier ingredients like onions or tough stringy cock meat and turning them into good food by judicious application of technique, wine and butter
it is easy to make but hard to get just right

look into Japanese style clear soups, nigiri sushi, stuff like that
those are pretty forgiving

Hey /ck/, got a question for you:

At what point do you sharpen your knives? Do you have any sort of tests to determien when to sharpen them? I have honing steel, but I'm pretty sure I'm past the point where that's going to make a difference. Any advice would be appreciated

Your knife should be sharp enough to slice a sheet of printer paper with little to no resistance.
>>
When cutting things isn't working as well as I'd like, i.e. when I have to think about it at all.

There are all kinds of spergy tests (HHT, three finger test, thumbnail test, etc).

Those are fine for communicating a goal in an internet forum, and they are useful for learning, but for me, I already know what I needed to learn to get good at knife maintenance, the real world goal is and always was to cut stuff, not pass tests.
>>
>>7355243
use knife often, and note when resistance increases more than normal

By scooping the innards of a bagel, you can save half the calories from carbs.

Just ask your local bagel shoppe for your bagel to be scooped out.

Well, at least it's a step up from those morons who throw crust away. These bagel people obviously realise the crust is the best part.

Alright fucks so after seeing them mentioned so damn much on here I felt the need to try them. It was cheap, is the brand any good? Also I thought the dill&mustard might make it better but now I think I'm cheating myself not trying the original. What's the brand you like the best ?

One of the "Big 5" candy holidays is just around the corner. This thread is to discuss:

>Favorite new limited edition products
>LE stuff you wish they'd bring back
>Anything food and valentines day related

I usually hate Valentines candy and it's my least favorite candy holiday. All the red dye puts me off. But I totally missed the boat on these fuckers last year and I'm glad they brought them back.

I love (real) white chocolate and these are like the truffle version of the strawberries and cream bar which is GOAT and impossible to find.

Hey /ck/, I'm a food experimentor here.

How can I make myself bleed without feeling pain?

I'm baking a cake made with real human blood, the only good ways I've got so far is nosebleeds, but I can't make them happen.

Please help.

Papercuts
>>
>>7353913
That's pretty creepy anon. Can't you just use food dye?

You could always use a shaving razor and slice open the tip of one of your fingers. Ring finger might be best. Head injuries bleed the most but it would be more difficult to catch the blood.

Anyway, get drunk, tie a string tightly around your finger, then make a nice deep, but short, cut. I've done that on accident with an xacto blade while book binding. Works like a charm. Used it to paint the comb and waddle of a rooster fight I was drawing in pen.

Are you joking

I'd rather have my legs shredded than a papercut

Do you have trouble getting motivated to cook for just yourself? I enjoy cooking but usually I eat ramen or takeout garbage because I don't want to spend 20 minutes cooking if it's just for me.
11 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
>>7353804
yeah it's a common problem. but sometimes I do a big effort. it depends on the setup of the kitchen and wether or not I need a change or something better than conbini shit. after a while I cannot stand it any longer that someone else cooks for me.
>>
>>7353804
When I cooked for just myself I tended to make things I could eat several days in a row, so I only had to cook every few days. Because it is hard to motivate yourself to do much actual cooking when it's just for yourself.
>>
>>7353804

I understand some of you are dead against a sticky however this thread is for people who want one and would be willing to contribute. After all /mu/ has one and music is extremely subjective.
How do you think it should be structured and what basic techniques should it include? Obviously we have the Booru for actual recipes (even though it's shit).

How did the Burger King manage to make halloween whopper such a viral success? I have a theory that they paid off every youtube channel to talk about it so that it would go viral.
13 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
I think it was familiar enough that no one would be afraid to eat it, but it was weird enough that it was easy to make a video about.
>>
Wasn't it mostly a "viral success" because everyone kept talking about how it turned your shit green? I don't think it was successful at all otherwise.
>>
Because it was such a novel idea. who would have even thought about using octopus ink to dye your food? i would have imagined that that shit was poisonous, but you barely even noticed it in the bread.
It proves once and for all that America is in the forefront of the food industry
