What are some dishes that look impressive, but are actually relatively easy to make?

Beef Wellington.

I was scared to make this for the longest time. One day I tried Ramsay's recipe by following the video on youtube. Perfect results the first time.
>>
all of them . cooking isn't hard. I guess blowfish or something that is deadly if cooked wrong is impressive but only literal retards eat that stuff so they would be impressed by boiled water.

you know those hams that come in a sack that are highly salted and don't need to be refrigerated and people like handing them out during Christmas time?

Well we soaked one to get the salt out overnight and cooked it but it was still a might salty, what happened?

Also can salty foods cause blow outs? I've been shitting myself with the runs all day.

Considering how large they are, I don't think an overnight salt would be that effective if their salt content is that high. You probably should have cut it up first. Also, sugar and/or vinegar helps counter the saltiness to a degree.
>>
>>7515657
Don't just soak it. Poach it at 180 degrees for 1.5 hours the night before you bake it.
>>
>>7515657
I tend to use hams in potato and bean soups, where they can provide a lot of flavor, and the other ingredients will balance out the salt.

In general, when you someone has the screaming shits, it is actually beneficial to increase salt intake along with fluids to prevent dehydration. But then, if your body isn't used to something, you'll likely get the shits anyway. Doesn't matter if it's overly salted, or just a new food you're trying in your travels.

Is it possible to eat good tasting food while being broke?

If you're actually broke then you can't afford food at all.

Even if money is tight, there's no reason to buy food that tastes bad; that's laziness and ignorance, same reason most poor people are poor in the first place.

Meal 1 - Breakfast burrito (eggs, cheese, taters, bacon, sausage) with sour cream

Meal 2 - Chicken, Brocolli, rice

Meal 3 - Spaghetti Aglio E Olio

That is less than 5 bucks a day.

How does /ck/ like their white onion cooked?

Every time I order out or go somewhere it seems that EVERYONE only lightly fries / cooks their onions. It annoys me because I like my onions cooked and browned to a delicious soft brown. No crunch left!

Also, red onions taste like rotting garbage that's been left out in the sun.

>>
As long as they're not raw I can eat them
>>
I like all onions cooked any and every way. Kill you are self.
>>
I prefer them raw or caramelized.

Both are delicious in hamburgers and hot dogs.

Wow, edible gold leaf is really expensive. $25 for a couple 3x3 inch squares. Try substituting edible gold paint.
>>
Just eat sandwiches.

Switch up the bread, meat, and veggies every time you go shopping, and try different combinations of condiments.

Do people really ever get sick of sandwiches?
>>
>>7515386

just get some shaved smoked meat from a deli, mix with eggs, horseradish, lettuce, sour cream, and hot sauce, maybe some raw or cooked onion, wrap it up and see you later, you can probably make 10 for like 20 bucks, so eat 2 per lunch and you're under budget.

Other than the fact you are loads of potatoes?

How are you eating then? If they are just boiled, why? But you are living like a king if they dauphinoise.

Too many variables, need more info!

If you sit around all day, yes, you will likely get fat. If you are at least a little bit active however, they are a decent choice. Potatoes actually contain most of the nutrition your body needs to survive, so accompanied with regular exercise they can be quite good for you.
Note: I don't actually know shit about nutrition so take what I say with a grain of salt

The biggest part of the allure of little caesars is the price. 10 bucks is too much for a LC pizza.

I am disgusted and curious.

Ok, so I used to make Oatmeal Bake every morning for breakfast, because I hate oatmeal and it's a way to eat it for me.

I read about how soaking oats overnight makes them better for you.

I tried it today, but the inside of the bake wouldn't bake at all. I put it back in the oven after it should have been done, total of 1 hour baking for a really thin, small piece and the inside was still soft and soggy.

So my question is, should I stop the soaking or is there some trick to baking that I don't know, which will give me a perfect bake-through.

Other ingridients I put in are a teaspoon of Rapeseed oil and one egg along with some flavor, a banana or apple.

This thread makes no sense. Why are you eating oatmeal every day if you hate oatmeal? Why would it be "better for you" to hydrate oats, it's just fucking water. Why are you surprised that soaking oats in water for hours makes them soggy?
>>
>>7514809
>Why are you eating oatmeal every day if you hate oatmeal?
Because it's delicious when baked and disgusting when not.
>Why would it be "better for you" to hydrate oats, it's just fucking water.
>easier to digest
>increases proportion of resistant starch

>Why are you surprised that soaking oats in water for hours makes them soggy?
I'm not, I'm wondering if it's even possible to bake them like this and get a good consistency.
>>
Post a recipe, looks interesting.

Also maybe try an even shallower dish or higher heat?
