>Mom makes meatloaf
>She fucking ruins it with onions
How do I get past hating onions, I swear the texture in my mouth almost makes me wanna throw it across the room
I had a panic attack once from this shit, how do I made veggies taste good?
Soften them by a slow saute in butter
Season with nutmeg
And kill yourself

Wrong. Eat them raw, nothing is better than crisp spicy onion
Can you properly use a wok on a regular home kitchen gas burner?
>>7837471
yes dont listen to snobs who insist Bao is the only way too cook with a wok. the wok was designed simply as a tool to help with cooking with minimal oil
however
-due to the relatively low if you want to actually 'stir fry' in it, you have to keep the amount of ingredients in the wok to a small amount, or else the liquid content will overcome the stoves heat capabilities and you'll start to just be braising them. since stir fry's use watery sauces, a lot of moist ingredients, and tend to be cooked all together, this is a bigger issue than with most other methods.
Yes, a wok is a useful tool in the home kitchen, but whether or not you can use it properly depends on your definition of "proper".
I've been holding off buying a decent wok until I get an outdoor propane burner (primarily for homebrewing). Unless you're making individual portions you basically want to cook over something that resembles a jet engine, because it's designed for direct, high heat, and is sloped so that you can move the food up the edges and only have food touching direct heat briefly, and be able to easily control it.
>due to the relatively low
BTUs on a residential range
if you have a commercial style range (for home use with ignitors and insulated sides and whatnot, or just an actual restaraunt range) it's less of an issue because these commonly have 3-5x more thermal output than mid range residential burners.
then there are dedicated wok ranges
There are also portable propane wok burners, but these tend to be shit with really dirty flames.
I personally use a commercial stock pot boiler reconfigured for propane, with an adjustable regulator. can shoot flames 6 feet high and will readily freeze 5 gallon propane tanks at high bore
what you you posers trying to cook on the 4th?
>>7837442
Smoking a brisket, and grilling bratwurst and corn. Going to make some hot german potato salad, tomato and onion salad, peach cobbler with vanilla bean ice cream, and my special bbq sauce. Then we'll have all the usual accompaniments, plus ice tea, beer, and water.

American cheese appreciation
Who loves their American cheese?
Favorite ways to use it?
>>7837413
I'd love to have it on a good ol' go''' za'

I don't eat much American cheese, but honestly, every once in awhile, I crave it on a grilled cheese or ham and cheese sandwich. IDK why, just do. But I buy the Kraft Deli Deluxe (or American from the deli section), not the prewrapped Kraft singles. Kraft singles don't really taste like American cheese, they taste like....plastic, basically.
I'm trying to get /fit/, but im getting really bored of eating a seasoned chicken breast by itself, anyone got any decent recipes to change it up?
I usually like to make enough portions for the week

Does anyone actually eat this stuff and enjoy it? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AB5-bNmDzX0&

You're supposed to wash it off and not eat it straight, for one. Kind of like someone eating a spoonful of prepared horseradish.
>>7837340
Huh, well that makes a lot more sense
>>7837330
You are supposed to eat it more like this.
Hey /ck/
Recently got one of these and am anxious to try baking my own bread now. What are some good recipes to start out on? No, I don't want zucchini bread or stuff like that, just genuinely nice crusty loaves of bread for sandwiches.
I want cookies.
>>7837247
Try making a pretzel bread, those are the memes.
>>7837247
why do you need a mixer to make bread?
Hey guys, truckerfag here.
Wondering what the best canned foods and non perishable meals I can keep that don't require cooking or even heating. I try to at least get a hot meal once a day but it doesn't always happen. I bought a bunch of chef boarder, canned chili, canned soups, baked beans, and gallons of water. For snacks I pack homemade jerky and I bought a can of Pringles because they stay fresh a long time and maybe I can use the can for something. Pretty soon I'll start trying to make dried fruits and fruit leather at home to bring.
Any suggestions? I never look forward to ending my day in the bottom of a metal can but it happens. Best to make the best of it.

I make my own, it's trucker mana.

In terms of canned food you could do worse than progresso or campbells chunky soups. I don't recommend the beef stew though since it's vaguely like dog food. The chicken soup is shockingly decent cold or lukewarm and the clam chowder will shock you in how not terrible it is.
Give me your best fresh soup recipes, /ck/.
beer
Not on my right computer, so can't copy/paste, but here's what I remember for Tuscan soup.
-Brown some italian sausage in bacon fat using whatever seasonings you like, deglazing with whatever you like, until a little overdone (because it's going back in the soup)
-Very finely minced onion, and I can't stress enough VERY, in bacon grease until starting to brown
-Deglaze with white wine, throw in the garlic
-chicken broth and water in, 1/4" potato rounds, italian sausage, lots of pepper
-When potatoes cooked through, kale and bacon bits for like 10 minutes
-Heavy cream
-Put in those frozen breadsticks while it cools, bake until browned on top (maybe even a little over browned)
-Serve with the breadsticks for dunking, and a lot of fresh-grated parmesan cheese
This one never fails to disappoint. Kale is the best in porky broth.

Honey maple roasted turkey, yes.
What's the deal with people hating on school lunches? I remember being a poor student back in 2005 and loving the fuck out of my stale, oven-baked potatoes and hormone-laced chocolate milk.
School lunches were never disappointment. My parents fed me shitty food, so lunch at school was always my most nutritious meal of the day, and my body grew to eagerly anticipate that lunch bell.
While everybody wasted their lunch time talking and socializing, I made sure to scarf down every last delicious morsel like the autistic introvert I was. It didn't matter that 20 of those 30 minutes were spent in line waiting for the free meal, I made sure to time every bite so that nothing went to waste.
To this day, people always ask me why I eat so fast. "you should enjoy your food" they say. I am enjoying my food! I just eat it faster than the average person does.
I always hated the soy burgers but everything else was pretty good.
>>7836965
because school lunches, at least in america, are shit
>cheapest possible sources
>food tastes like cardboard
>no salt in anything
and I know the whole 'make the kids healthier' shit is their reason, but why would they gain from only eating flavored cardboard if what they eat at home is loaded with unhealthy shit
>tfw you get a '''''''''burger''''''''' and theres a piece of bone in it
>poor student
>lunch at school was always my most nutritious meal of the day
U like it because ur poor
Oh look
God's gift to mankind

Soup in a bowl of bread is the neatest thing but I've never had one before. What soups do you usually have?
>>7836982
I prefer cheesy soups like beer cheese or broccoli and cheese.
>>7836982
Broccoli cheddar, tomato basil, cheese bisque, French onion, any chowder really
