Hi, I am super embarrassed to be asking this question, but can someone explain to me how limit /stop limit orders work? I should 100% know this by now but I've always been too afraid to ask.
I've just been using market orders for everything and apparently that's a super dumb way to do it.
Take the picture for example. If I was to say, hey CIBC, please sell my stock if it stars to drop below a share price of 1.30, how do I do that with the following form?
What about if I want to buy a stock if it drops below a certain price? Or how do I make it sell if it goes above a certain price?
I have never thought I was stupid before, but I genuinely can't understand how to get this to work.

Basically its an order to sell if the price reaches an upper limit (limit) or drops to a bottom limit (your stop). It turns into a market order when the price meets or exceeds the price you put in. So it might be more or less by the time it gets sold.

Ok so using the form in my picture, if I want to sell the stock if it goes up to, let's say, $1.30, do I just put an limit in as $1.30?
and to say I want to sell if it drops below $1.30, I jut put that in the stop box? I've tried that but it always says I need both boxes filled out. How can it be both?!!?

Topic is using skills learned while working for someone else and then branching off.
I'm legally an environmental professional now (three years plus relevant cert). Most of my work is Phase I ESAs, which are a breeze if you know the local area fairly well. They run roughly 2k each (1400 for low bids, 2600 for complex sites, 3000-5000 for multi-building complexes 20+ stories tall). I figure if i do 20-25 per year, ill earn my current salary, any more would be a significant salary increase.
Has anyone here taken the slow step to moving towards a LLC after gaining exp? Basically, i'm curious if it is/was worth it to change to self-employed, or just waiting out another two years and changing employers.

Start your own anything. Life is infinitely better. It's not that complicated. If what your industry is does not require much money then you have no excuse not to go online and form an LLC then print up some business cards.

right off the bat you lose insurance, workman's comp, vacation time, overtime, and any other benefits you got as an employee.
your taxes increase by an automatic 7%+ on top of what you're already paying. Also since your salary will likely increase your taxes will too.
compare these costs to your current pay very carefully. In a lot of fields employees get paid well enough that it's not worth striking out on their own.
other than that, it's not a bad way to start. I'm an environmental contractor, I didn't start off like that but a person easily could.

Figured I would be honest and post my situation for some advice
Used to work $10 hour slave and ended up moving to another state and was hired on for $25 for a great career which I am currently still in. Getting tired of it to be honest, office slave monkey, sit in a chair all day, stair at compute screens, everyone gets angry at my for opening windows/screens in the whole office so I can look outside, Have no idea what to do anymore, heading for a life of 100k + bonuses if I keep it up, but I'm just not excited anymore, the projects, the work, and additional overtime with no additional pay fucking sucks.
tfw. multiple projects go live next week, system wide changes for the next couple of weeks, and all I can think about is wasting time when I'm not working

now the problem is I don't know what your goals or your desires or your loyalties are, so I can't really tell you what to do
