Hey /an/, what kind of wasp is this?

Its only about the length of a fingernail, maybe a little smaller, and it hovers really well and darts around quickly.

Noobie to /an/, is the brown recluse a meme, or do people not know what a brown recluse is?

Someone in another thread said pic related was a brown recluse.

What environmental issues have the most priority in being addressed? What careers have the most impact in improving them?

I am going into college, and I want to dedicate my life to conservation. From what I've looked into I was thinking about something in marine biology or renewable energy, but what do you guys think?
7 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
That depends a lot on where you live, the politics and local issues etc.

I'd look at renewable+reusable energy/materials. The rest should follow. There is shit like Circular economy but it's obviously not very compatible with our current models.
>>
i'm looking into environmental science with a minor in ecological restoration. small field, however, and not many colleges have that program.
>>
You can look at agriculture. A lot of land is taken up, alongside river, soil and air pollution from faeces and chemicals. On top of that is land degredation as the original habitat is destroyed, so you get soil erosion, desertification, nutrient poor land.

A good way to solve all these issues is with agroforestry, which reduces everything mentioned and brings back wildlife

What kind of cat is this?
She's medium/small sized, completely white. She's got brown/hazel eyes.

We brought her as a kitten and presumed she was a moggy, but we've been told she might be pedigree?

Guys I'm fucking panicking here. Yesterday a big ass wasp got in my room but it just up and died by itself after a while, I think it got caught in a spiderweb. Buut for a while I could hear other wasps hitting on my blinds, trying to get in. I was scared as fuck but it eventually died down.

NOW THIS MORNING I'm woken up by a number of wasps hitting on my window again. It felt like a fucking swarm, every other second I could hear their little bodies slamming against my blinds trying to find a crack. Now, I have my blinds down (even though there are opening on it, which the dumbasses haven't found so far) and my glass window is closed so I don't think it's likely they'll actually get in as long as I keep my shit closed.

So I go peek out the parallel kitchen window and I can see at least 10 wasps dancing around my window and nowhere else. And I couldn't see any signs of a hive anywhere.

The fuck should I do?

Update: Halfway through writing this the noise died down, maybe they moved to terrorize some other window, but I'm still scared they might come back. I can still hear faint buzzing outside holy shit help.

It's too late, kill yourself before they kill you.

Maybe they're bees though, wasps don't usually swarm. Though there's no real way for me to get close enough to tell right now.

Fuck, /an/. I need some place to unload these feelings and maybe get some advice.

Here is my baby, Rin; my beautiful wild child.

I live in the country on a tiny lake and he's an inside/outside cat just like my others. I came home Thursday evening to find him unable to close his mouth and in obvious pain, so we went straight to the vet.

>Left side of jaw broken
>Right side dislocated/possibly broken
>abdominal laceration

He was either hit by a car (which is insane where I live. There's nobody out here!) or fell onto something. The vet kept him overnight then took all fucking day to get x-rays on him only to tell me later that evening that they didn't have the equipment necessary to fix him, but another vet in town did.

I moved him that same day (Friday) and the other vet is confidant that he'll be able to patch Rin up as long as there are no surprises. He has mentioned that he can't see the right side of the jaw well in the x-ray and that, if the joint is broken too badly, I will have no choice but to put him to sleep.

This is the part that's pissing me off. They won't do the surgery until Tuesday because the other vet needed to do the operation took a couple days off and it's the weekend. I get that they're people too and they have lives, but is it really okay to leave a cat with a broken face that requires surgery for 6 days? Is that standard procedure? Am I just freaking out?

I'm terrified that I'm going to go through this long wait only for them to keep pushing the surgery back, call me and tell me he died, or call to tell me the joint is destroyed and his quality of life won't be worth it. I'm a god damn wreck and I can't even see him again until Monday.

I know there's gonna be some of you who'll crawl up my ass for letting him outside, but he was born in a freaking barn. All of my cats are barn cats or taken off the street. I'm already down and doing a great job o kicking myself; I don't need your help. I'm just asking for some kind words or advice.

Looks like a bro cat. I hope all goes well.
>>
>>2138707
Never had to deal with broken bones, but my indoor/outdoor cat has had some pretty horrific injuries and come out looking fine in the end. They heal amazingly well. The main issue is typically the cost of fixing them up.
>>
>>2138715
Thank you, Anon. He is an absolute bro and all of my other cats are freaking out because he's gone.

>>2138733
>They heal amazingly well.
The vets have mentioned this but it's good to hear it again. I know I shouldn't be this scared of losing him, but he just turned 2 and there's still so many more years for him.

I've already put $900 into him and that's without surgery. I'm only thankful that I had a decent nest egg set aside and can afford anything the vet throws at me. Doesn't mean I want them to milk me dry, but the costs are not currently an issue.

I found this guy in my bathroom

Is it dangerous? Black widow? Should i kill it?

What's up guys, it was my brother's birthday today and my mom is getting me and him a bearded dragon. Is there anything I should know? I hear mealworms' exoskeleton is hard to digest and my mom has a crippling fear of roaches, so I guess we'll be feeding them cricket's and bop choi.

I dont know much a bout them, but if I were you, id use something other than sand. Also, bearded dragons are too bland for my taste. So I can't be much help, but I think adolescents eat more of a plant based diet rather than an insect one.

you're not getting replies because these are things you can read about in every care sheet online. do your own research.

How many species of bacteria do you think live on and in you?
>>
>>2138544
There's a lot of good bacteria. Also a thing called immunity. That's how our forefathers killed all those godless heathens that ran around naked with buffalo and shit. They didn't have immunity to small pox. Or guns, or bayonets.
>>
>>2138544

op here again, i'm thinking of building a 72 x 36 x 36 plywood tank for these with a custom background like pic related. How many beardeds can fit in the 72 x 36 x 36 tank? I'm thinking of only having one male and multiple females
>>
Lighting is pretty simple; one fluorescent UV bulb, preferably the long tube style and not the compact ones One basking bulb. There is nothing special about basking bulbs pet stores sell. An incandescent from hardware store of appropriate wattage works just fine.

Recommend you do not attempt keeping a colony. Learn the animal first, get some experience. Don't breed. There are enough bearded dragons and you won't make any money anyway.
>>
>>2138310
Also, no night light necessary if you room temp is mid 70's. If it's below that, use a ceramic heat emitter as your basking heat source and leave it on 24/7. Those night lights are garbage.

Hi /an/ I found these four (4) cats under my porch, and they seem to have their eyes infected, from what I can tell, they are couple of weeks old and still on breastfeeding. What should I do, taking them to a vet is my last resort since they are stray cats, and I'd like to help them. Anyone has experienced this with their cats before? Pls help ;_;

Where do you live? I have some fantastic little pills that should clear that right up.

I saw these photos from a guy that took those pictures asking if anyone had seen something like that and nobody knows. Maybe someone here can help to identify that thing or animal, i don't know what it is.

Should adult dogs with human aggression immediately be put down, or are there effective interventions to make them less terrible?
14 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>2137479
>Human agression

Define what you mean by it OP. There are so many variables, it's difficult to give a simple answer.
>>
>>2137496
Tries to murder everyone but the owner.
>>
>>2137504
Hard to say for even that. Are we counting dogs that would attack intruders or in general just 'everyone aggressive?
I think a dangerous dog can still be the owners perfect pet. Like the dog is totally fine except for other people and if the owner has kept it under control, hasn't attacked anyone, properly fenced in, etc then I think it'd be really shitty to take that away from them. You can't just force into people's homes to evaluate their dogs and the way we judge dog aggression is pretty vague. A dog expressing any concern even without snapping or growling could deem them unadoptable, for example(such as shoving a hand on a stick in their face in a stressed or environment).

But for dogs in general I'd like to be somewhat of something more organized or 'educational' aside from letting people just waltz in and bring home any puppy from a store. I wonder if there is even 'free training' events or something.

Mom just brought home 2 4-5 inch koi she bought presumably off a streetcorner in LA. How the hell do I house these things so that they dont die immediately

They're currently upstairs in a 10 gallon tank with a soon-to-be eaten ghost shrimp. We have a 50 gallon tank downstairs but that one has 15 or so mollie/platy in it

I live in a desert-y area so I dont know if i'll be able to find someone to hand these fish off to later when everyone has lost interest in them. The fuck do I do? We simply do have the space for a 300 gallon tank, let alone a pond

put a bunch of ice in a bag, stick the fish in there and throw it out. The ice will cause the fish to go hypothermic and then die painlessly. Then tell your mom to stop being an impulsive idiot
>>
>>2137159
Carps are extremely resistant to cold temperatures.
If you use this method chances are that they'll fall asleep and reawaken in your trash can.
>>
>>2137162

or it gets encased in ice, slips out of the trashcan while being loaded onto a truck and falls into a drainage pipe which leads into the ocean until it joins with a glacier, thousands of years later the glacier melts an the fish awakens in an exotic, future world filled with adventure

either way problem solved
