Maybe slugs or rodents? Idk I've never grown outside before. I don't want to use any chemicals because I have rabbits and dogs that run around outside. I ruled out rabbits because it's they cant get in.

Any dog food experts around?

Does it really matter if the dog food bag specifically says "Puppy" or "Large Breed Puppy" in big letters on the front on it?

I mean, if an "Adult Weight Management" food is AAFCO approved for "All Life Stages" and meets the calorie, calcium, phosphorus, protein, and fat guidelines for a large breed puppy set out by experts, then can I use that for my large breed puppy?

The formula that is $20 cheaper and has the same core foundation as the "Large Breed Puppy" food. I just don't get it. It seems like it SHOULD matter since it's written in bold letters on the front of the bag, but I can't find a single reason that it does on the nutrition and ingredient list.

Large breed puppy food supports the slower growth rate of large and giant breeds. If you fuck up your large/giant puppy now expect thousands in vet bills.

What brand are you feeding? I feed Acana and have been really happy.
>>

>Large breed puppy food supports the slower growth rate of large and giant breeds.

By regulating caloric intake and calcium to prevent problems further down the line attributed to rapid growth.

Calcium, and calories. See, that's the thing. Bear with me, science incoming ...

Calcium should be 3 grams per 1000 calories (roughly 1% and 1.5% percent), and calories between 3500 and 4000 per kilogram. Calcium/Phosphorus ratio between 1:1 and 1.5:1

These are the basic guidelines for large breed puppy food. And many, many, many foods that are not specifically labeled as "Large Breed Puppy" meet them. "Weight Management" formulas are even better, because the fat content is much lower, supporting the lazy lifestyles of large breed dogs once they get around 10 months or so.

Right now my guys eat Purina Pro Plan Focus Large Breed Puppy, but I am looking to change to a grain free formula because my older girl is showing issues of an intolerance or allergy, and I need to find out why. Money is also a concern, so I was looking into Kirkland Nature's Doman (only the Adult formula is available here, hence this entire discussion), which has 3.5 starts on Dogfood Advisor. ( http://www.dogfoodadvisor.com/dog-food-reviews/natures-domain-dog-food/ ) and is incredibly well priced ($33/35 pounds)
>>
>>2141253

Oh, it's worth noting that the Salmon formula is lower in Calcium, which is the one we're looking at. Again, to slow growth. It's around 1.2%. The other 2 flavors are 1.4% and 1.6%.

Hello my dearies,
I come to you with a fun game in prospective, inspired by my future project to come!
I am moving in a year in a mediterranean country, and will acquire a plot of land of approximatively 1 ha or 10000m2, on which I will build my own abode, which would include among other things an artist's den, a research laboratory, an astronomer's tower, and the most exciting, a very wide garden.
Here's where you come in, I want you, given the space and climate, to imagine the perfect garden by stating here what plants, trees, flowers you would assemble in the great garden of approx. 5000m2, and perhaps post pictures of those. I also welcome interior plants, which would be a nice addition I am considering as well.
I have a budget of 10 000 euros for the garden!

Show me your secret garden :)

OP here!

I have a selection of trees here, some that bring memories regarding to past travels, such as the Lebanese Cedar, and the Pine of Alep, others that pertain to my current garden, which are cherry, fig, olive, apple, apricot trees that I plan on planting in the future garden.

Any other suggestions?

Are you serious.

If you are, get an olive tree.

Also consider a pond.
>>
>>2141041
I am very serious. My circumstances are lucky, I have just inherited a big portion of land, and a very well paid job in the prospect of moving there. Also, I'll be working only 20h/week so I have a lot of time to spend gardening.

I would love to have a pond, that's a great idea, thanks. Mind telling me what kind of plants you would add to the pond? I was thinking maybe some moss, water lillies and bamboo sprouts?

Today after my 6 month old rottweilers walk I noticed that she was moving her hips a lot and does not want to put a lot of weight on her right rear leg.

She is not limping but it looks like it is discomforting for her. The signs are similar to hip dysplasia however it came very suddenly after some rough play otuside and i suspect she might have sprained something. I have checked her feet for cuts and there was nothing.

She is a very small, lean rottweiler girl so I doubt it would be HD. She looks almost exactly like the one in the pic.

What do you reckon it is? She has never shown any signs of HD until this day AFTER chasing the ball and falling over quite a few times.

Since then she sits a bit like a frog, sways her hips a bit and only lays down on one side. She is also refusing to jump around and play tug of war which she loves.

Thoughts?

It might be a sprain. There isn't necessarily any outwards signs of a sprain except the dog won't want to put any weight on that leg. Book a vet appointment and put the little girl on strict bed rest until you see the vet.

What's a polite way to tell someone their turtles don't grow to the size of their habitat, after they talk back to you, saying they moved one to a bigger tank and witnessed it grow?

I sell pets and it's infuriating when, one second, you're being asked habitat advice and the next, they're "educating" you.
Fuckers just want someone to agree with.

You're not wrong, of course. You can print out a solid reputable article that states the facts and give it to them. Beyond that there is no benefit in arguing with fools. The more foolish the person the more adament they will be that their false beliefs are correct.
>>
>>2140886
Flat out refuse to sell them the pet, if you need to, literally tell them that you can not in all good conscience hand over a living creature to someone who is an animal Hitler that will keep them their whole lives in a torture chamber.

I see the same thing all the time about goldfish and bettas in the aquarium general here on /an/. I have read some true horror stories.

"Hurrr, bettas live in puddles and rice paddies in the wild! So it's fine keeping them in a tiny vase with some plant roots to eat. What do you mean rice paddies are miles long, and have thousands of gallons of water moving through them every minute? What's an obligate carnivore?"

"Durrr, goldfish never outgrow their tank! What do you mean they are domesticated carp, just like koi? What do you mean they can live for over 20 years and can grow over a foot long? LOL, yer a liar, the oldest goldfish I ever had was two years old and never grew larger than an inch!"

I got a corn snake probably 4 months ago, and he was a few months old when I got him. At first he was fine with being handled, but I switched his shavings, and now not so much. He always buries himself now, and when I try to dig him up he get really scared and slithers away. Any suggestions on how to make him more comfortable? Everything I can find just says to handle him more, but that's hard because he slithers away. Thanks!

Snakes don't like to be handled. Ever. Some will tolerate it, but never fool yourself into thinking they're enjoying some fresh air or something retarded. They're scared shitless. This is noticeable when you get a young snake. As it gets older, it distances itself from you. As a young snake, it's stupid. As it gets older, it has better survival instincts. They stop accepting being held. Snakes are not cuddle buddies.

Sneko enjoy handle.
Babys are just more scared of you hell somtimes my snake gets scared of its own tail.
When theyre older theylll give less of a fuck.
Just wait he will get more used to you
>>
>>2140797

Don't give advice on things you know nothing about. It causes problems beyond your scope. Just because you don't care about that guy's snake, doesn't mean you can say whatever you think is right.

Snakes don't enjoy being handled. The more you handle it, the more it is going to predict it, and the more likely it will turn aggressive every time your hand gets near it. Then one day it will get stuck, or you'll have to manhandle a bad shed off it, and it will attack the fuck out of you nonstop because it knows you're trying to take it away from an area it knows it's safe in.

If it runs from you, let it go. Don't push it. That makes you an aggressor. Save it for when you have to. You're not going to get a lot of chances before it catches on.

It's like the first time a dog breaks free of the house, you can get it to come to you when called. The 3rd or 4th time? LOL. "Honey, start the car, he's 3 blocks down the road and still running" ... They learn.

hi /an/, i want to pet a raven, but i got a few questions:

1.- are they aggressive?
2.- what do they eat?
3.- are they sociable with other animals?

any other tips will be welcome

They would be a disaster if kept in house like an ordinary pet birb. You can befriend them by leaving food outside if you like. Mealworms are beloved of all birb. Of course you do that you get friends of all birb kind.

Obviously this guy doesn't give a fuck about the kittens or else he'd at least have clean food and water out.... or at least a clean towel and a non-soggy box.
I don't have any local resource to call regarding the matter as they don't give a fuck unless you show up with the animals yourself...
Should I just try and take as many as I can late at night? What should I do?

Save the kittens.
>>
>>2140711
If they are outside, lure them off of his property. Take them. Bring all of them to a vet to at least get a distemper vaccine(may be too young for rabies). Voila, you now have proof of ownership. That's the shitty deal with outdoor cats; anyone can take them and make them theirs. Free roaming animals are not anyone's property until proven otherwise.

I saw a squirrel attack and destroy a sparrow nest today, killing (and presumably eating) the nestlings in the process.

I am shaken. I had no idea that squirrels preyed upon other animals. Why are squirrels such bastards?

They eat each other too. Gray squirrels are not afraid to do unpleasant things to survive.
