Is RFG or anyone else who might be knowledgeable about mink still around?

I've been looking into starting a mink farm for the last several years and the only thing holding me back is my lack of firsthand knowledge about mink. I'd like keep a single individual as a pet for awhile and see if this is something I want to persue further.

While keeping them without a permit is legal in my state, I'm not really sure how to aquire just one and a young one at that. Only someone with a permit can legally sell them and all the farms around here keep a low profile.

A single mink be enough. There is a guy on YouTube who has mink and they vary drastically from one another in general they are more work than ferrets, most destructive and can probably fuck you up harder than one. While we do have domesticated ones, they were not bred to be nice.

Look fun to fish with though.

Maybe there is a exotic pet store or weasel club in the area? I'm thinking a a merchant who sells fur will have some and be willing to sell a few.

Find Joseph Carter/Minkenry on facebook or YouTube and message him. He's pretty open about teaching people about mink, and he's insanely passionate about them. He might be able to find you a baby mink and ship it to you (only around April/May), but he's going to require you to buy his book "Minkenry" and be absolutely certain you can keep one permanently.

His book has ALL the information about training mink. He adopts mink from mink farms so he could give you farming information, I'm sure.

He is THE mink person. Don't be afraid to talk to him. He's really nice.

why was cuteness not selected for among arthropods?

r-selected animals don't care for individual young, instead they have tons of offspring and don't worry about them.

K-selected animals have very few offspring and take very good care of them.

One of these selected strategies benefits from finding their young (and perhaps their mates) attractive, the other does not.

this is part of it, but also realize what they perceive as attractive is different than vertebrates. Some Female spiders do select males based off looks.

Also butterflies are considered "cute", no?

Why do we keep developing medical treatment if it only weakens us as a species? I know that protecting others of your species is a basic instinct, but humans are smart enough to go against their instincts. Trying to keep every human alive is destroying the planet and soon it won't be able to support all of us. Even now lots of important species are going extinct due to human interference. Why are we willing to sacrifice species of other animals and the health of the entire planet just for the sake of promoting the survival of an already severely overpopulated species?

Here's an idea, if you think more humans should die, why don't you kill yourself?

That is the opposite of what it does. I'm sorry science hasn't found a cure for the brain disease that makes you this fucking stupid.

Well guess I don't know what to do with them

Post heritage and little known breeds of livestock.

Just because they're domesticated and we eat them doesn't mean they aren't interesting.

Honestly if I ever have the money I want to make a breed of chickens taller than Malay (3ft on average)

Like a 4' 15/18lb bird would be perfect
>>
The pomeranian equivalent to chocobos.
>>
>>2135631
Basically.

I religiously prohibited from eating emu or ostrich so wanting a 4' chicken is the next best thing.

So, tell me about pet birds.
Been looking into stuff, starting with what species to consider/avoid.

So far I see that cockatoos are to be avoided. Canaries/finches aren't that affectionate.
African Greys are the smartest but rare/pricey.

I am looking at the ones that enjoy interaction.

bird general I guess too, if people want to talk about that

Just get the standard ones like cockatiels or budgies. The big parrots are too much effort for a first time bird owner. They also live really really long.

Amateur paleontologist here. I was thinking of starting a collection of living fossils (plants mostly). As my first plant I thought of this thing, Equisetum telmateia.

Should the Cincinnati Zoo be charged for killing Harambe?

I think they shot the wrong animal. Humans are nowhere near extinction levels. Someone got their priorities wrong.
>>
They saved a child. They did the right thing.
>>
No, they were in a really shitty position where they were damned if they do, damned if they don't. They had no way of knowing for sure how badly hurt the kid was and the zoo could have taken the blame if there was the slightest chance the gorilla made things worse by moving around a kid with a back/head injury, or if he accidentally ended up underwater or was injured if the tranquilisers caused Harambe to become confused/agitated and lash out or push the kid down. I'm not saying it was definitely the right course of action either, but they had a really difficult call to make with a potential shitstorm and major fallout for the zoo whatever they chose to do.

That dog looks comfy as fuck.

My dog gets to sleep in my bed whenever she wants, and her dog bed consists oc two thick, soft cushions with two sleeping bags that she can arrange however she wants. It's not a temperpedic, but it's still damn comfy.

Many a drunken night I have swapped her beds and wome up feeling more refreshed than in my own bed.
