It happened so long ago that the truth is probably lost forever. Maybe they were orphans who ran away and lived in the woods for a while. Maybe they became "feral" in a way, inventing a language that only they could understand. I think they actually did exist, but nothing paranormal happened really. Maybe they were dirty or covered in some sort of moss or algae that made them look green. As for the beans they ate, maybe it's just a food they liked. If they were out in the wild for years, they'd be somewhat suspicious of food they haven't eaten before, because they probably learning from experience some shit makes you sick. Could've been what killed the boy too, if you are malnourished and eat a lot of rich food like milk and butter and shit, it can overload your system and kill you.
