It's not a fucking pattern meme. The reason Gens are designed to last that length is so they can shell out as much merch, toys, TCG sets, anime episodes, and movies as possible. Look at how much of what I just listed has been produced compared to Gen VI. They're not going to cuck themselves out of sales just to fill your imaginary void.
Super Mario Odyssey is coming out this holiday season which will blur into 2018 sales, and that will do big numbers for Nintendo. And I'm willing to bet Prime 4 comes out late 2018.
