You become better at writting proofs by doing lots of proofs. Try to prove everything new in your textbooks from now on.

If you aren't a brainlet your brain will start seeing patterns and will start abstracting the core ideas and you'll be able to apply it to new problems.

so i have started neurology threads here before and gotten banned

is this a board for math homework?

lets test this out

do you believe in human evolution?

do you believe in basic computational theory?
do you believe in bitrate, bandwith, and bus rates?

if so, how can you espouse trash like free will or the idea that the brain is an organ whose function is independrnt of evolution?

Help, if I have a right-angled triangle with hypotenuse 10 and heigh on the hypotenuse 6, what is its area??
>>
>>9127967
pls help
>>
>>9127967
a^2 + b^2 = c^2

a^2 + 6^2 = 10^2

a^2 + 36 = 100

a^2 + (36 - 36) = (100 - 36)

a^2 = 64

square root of a ^2 = sqrt64

a = 8

Area of a triangle = 1/2 base times height

Base = 8 Height = 6

1/2 (8*6)

One half of 48

24.

Hope that helps

How do we know that black holes really exist? We can obviously not see them, so how exactly do we know they actually exist and the indirect evidence that we have of them is not actually caused by something else?

Reading books and practicing.
Thinking Mathematically - Robert Blitzer
A Mind for Numbers: How to Excel at Math and Science (Even If You Flunked Algebra) -
Barbara Oakley
Also brush up on the basics of advanced/higher-level mathematics in order to practice and get a grasp of its fundamental tools. Practice a lot of linear algebra, abstract algebra, set theory, and analysis, before moving onto things like group theory, type theory, and category theory, etc.

What exactly does water do for the body and why is it important to drink 3L a day of it despite being able to drink .5-1L a day and get by just fine?

Someone said its essentially lubricant for your cells and someone said your body seperates the hydrogen and oxygen and feeds them to your organs.

tl:dr; whats the difference between drinking optimal water levels and minimim water and what does water actually do.

>>
>>9127642
you need water so your kidneys can work properly and you can piss the waste
>>
1. Is it true that too much water can put a strain on your heart?

2. Whats the difference health wise to drinking 3L of water a day versus only getting your water from food and liquids and sometimes drinking a glass or two on a hot day.
>>
>>9127658
1. too much water can be as bad as drinking too little because, and I might be wrong, but it has to do with oversaturation. Your liver and kidneys need to flush all the bad shit and absord the needed shit, but with constant water, everything is diluted and pissed out.
2. You sweat a lot in the heat and your brain works harder for the same amount of tasks. Think of it like a computer CPU; you wouldn't let it burn itself out, you'd top up your coolants and then go easy in the heat.

Can science explain why we feel depressed for not having a gf?

Are we that dependant in others?
26 posts and 1 images submitted.

biology can. humans are a social species. like apes, dolphins, gorillas
>>
You have an innate desire to reproduce. Having a gf is the first step to that. Not that hard to put together.
>>
>>9127640
>social species
is it reversible? some wolves live alone.

>>9127643
many animals don't socialize at all, just rape the female for reproductive reasons.

The more intelligent a civilization becomes, the more nihilistic and individualistic they become. They realize that they only exist for a short period of time, and that they're best off forgetting ideologies such as transhumanism, extropianism, and immortalism, and instead living lives of hedonism that focus on self-indulgence.

As intelligence goes up, so does the level of nihilism. This is why aliens have yet to visit us. To have the technology to visit us, they must have the intelligence. If they have the intelligence, they would simply be too nihilistic to visit us.
14 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
I feel that way too OP. I used to subscribe to a transhumanist world view and thought that everything would keep progressing but I realized my own mortality and figured I won't live for a super long time.
>>
>>9127635
Wrong. If they were truly intelligent, they'd embrace individuality as an illusion accept that we are all of one being

Rotten like the sheep flesh being stewed,

Ugly like the cancer in my heart,

Why such creature exists in this Earth?

The reminder of the sin you committed,
The hate you have shown upon me,
I am the "thing" you hold depraved and
unwanted.

Grown and nurtured into a pot of wrath,
I spread my dung into the harvest of others souls.

My presence is the plague, my vibes collect your happiness
and mold them into bitterness milk.
I am the reason your life is an unforgiving corruption.

For the hell you have build upon me, I shall kill you.

Ugly like the cancer in my heart,

You are the flesh being stewed,
You are the flesh maggots adore,
You are the cancer in my heart.

I'm a biological science student, going into my final year.
Is it worth trying to write some sort of paper to publish in a journal?
I don't have any ability to do anything lab based, as I'm still an undergrad and obviously don't have the equipment, time, or even permission to use a lab.
I was thinking of possibly doing something like a literature review related to my final year project.
Theoretically, would it be taken seriously and be able to be published if it was decent quality, despite me not even having a BSc yet?
Anything I'd need to know from anyone who's written or is writing a paper?

>as I'm still an undergrad and obviously don't have the equipment, time, or even permission to use a lab.
er what? You should have an undergrad research class in your final year. If not, that's not a good sign of your university, i went to a crap shit small university and we still had research to do, in my case with C. elegans.
>>
Try to get into a professors research group instead. Talk to your professors that are working in fields that interest you and ask if you can help them in the lab. At the university I attend, 3rd and 4th year undergrad students can participate in classes that are geared towards gaining research experience (given a research project). If you're planning on going to grad school, research experience is incredibly important.
>>
>>9127508
My uni does it weirdly.
We had to choose our final project from a list, one person per project, and they were randomly assigned if more than one person signed up to one. Only about 10% were actually lab based. If you didn't get the one you wanted (like me) you were randomly assigned one.
The one I've been assigned is some data analysis project that I have no interest in at all, and is basically bioinformatics, which I do not enjoy in the slightest.
I did a small research project last year and a literature review in my first year, but I don't have permission to use a lab for some side-project, hence why I think I could do a proper literature review or something.

>>9127516
I've had to write a literature review on depression medication and did a research paper last year which was the main part of my grade for the year as well, so I have experience. I'll also be doing stuff this year.
I just want to actually write about a topic I'm interested in for the amount I'm interested in and not have to make it fit the topic and guidelines for being graded.
I don't think any of my professors would want help from an undergrad but that's worth a shot I guess.
