What are some scientific ways to induce a change in my negative thinking and debilitated temporal lobe activity caused by chronic depression?
Also please no meme advice like "exercising more, having a good diet or just bee yourself", hence post citations to relevant scientific papers from high impact journals when commenting.

stop being cheap and see a therapist or buy a motorcycle. both work
>>9126003
LSD and shrooms are known specifically for being able to do this. It's up to you to maintain it though. Take a low dose so you don't wig out. Sorry if this is a meme answer; I know it sounds like one.
A therapist could work too, but it depends on how much you want to open up about yourself to others.
>>9126003
Exercise is great for psychological well-being. Alcohol is a temporary pain relief but is bad in the long run. Personally, I think that people get depressed when they don't reach goals they think they should be achieving, mostly because they couldn't achieve them in the first place. Try lowering your goals and tackle one at a time - maybe even create some sort of 'thing' or paradigm in which you can comfortably achieve something but make sure it also satiates your ego.
At the end of the day you're the only one who knows yourself the best.
There is a thread about IQ literally every hour on this board.
>>9125974
Because no one on this board actually knows anything about science. So instead of talking about science they just make science related shit posts.
Its been like this for the entire year (and others might tell you its always been like this)
But you can blame /pol/ for that.
You have to realize that now that Trump is in office there's an ever increasing tendency towards anti intellectualism. Hence why you have all of these people glorifying pseudo science they dont even understand.
>>9125974
It isn't. It is just one of the raid subjects for the on-going 4chan raid to make 4chan unusable. That's just one subject from one raid group.
Our physics II class is using the book pictured...but I can only find the solutions manual pdf online, not the actual textbook....If anyone can find it I'd be forever grateful.
He said that any college physics textbook will do though, and all of our homework is on an online platform so can anyone recommend the best textbook to actually learn this shit? I'm a brainlet when it comes to this....I'm already lost first week in on electric charge/ fields....
>>9125918
>algebra based physics
Why the fuck would you ever do that? Do calculus based physics.
>>9126112
im a premed biochem major fag, have a 4.0 in all my med school pre reqs with this being my last one...why would I want to chance that by taking calc based physics II?
You won't get a good answer on this board because everyone here tool calculus based physics.
Take calculus based physics.
Soooo..... Anon.
How was your first week back to school? did you cry yet? are your maths hard? is your professor hot? tell me all about it.
>>9125860
Graduated years ago.
>>9125860
As I made a thread about, my TA for discrete math is quickly becoming the man I want to marry. He is so cute, hot, sweet, gentle, tall, excited, and good hearted. And just a little awkward.
I really, really hope he's gay. I think there's a chance.
I can't wait to spend a semester with him, hopefully in his arms or in his bed by the end.
I'll have to start looking for a ring!
>first day of topology course
>everyone is either a senior or a grad student
>okay let's review the very basics of set theory
So uhh... what is dark matter made of?
massive compact halo objects
Something with gravity
>>9125596
Dark energy is probably a better name.
It is just excess energy~gravity that the theories fail to account for.
Trust theory -> Observe discrepancy -> Hypothesize existence of exotic material instead of assuming the theory is wrong
>lab test involves nothing learned in either lecture or lab
>professor had forgotten which class he was teaching but refuses to change the test
>this happens more than once
>this professor is head of the department
what are the worst professor you've had to deal with?
Soils professor. He was a shitty teacher but it got way worse when he joined a study abroad class I was helping to teach when he kept trying to murder the students.
We were in South Africa at a National Park and he popped the van that he was driving a group of students into neutral to speed down a dirt road that was barely wide enough for the van, with several hairpin turns, and an 800 ft sheer drop down the mountain.
We were driving up the mountain next and as we passed them at the bottom they looked mortified and held up a "Help me" sign. I got the story later and passed it on to the main prof who chewed his ass out.
There were other shitty incidents but that one was probably the worst.
>>9125490
That'a fun
>>9125490
Wow the craziest thing my soils prof did was give us the answer to some bonus questions on the exam (people weren't coming to class).
Can you think of/know a way to make aniline from aniline derived dyes? Looking at some of them, aniline yellow (pic attached) seems like it might work with a decent yield. The dyes are available in my country while aniline itself not so much.
>>9125386
Why do you need aniline? Doubt you'll get enough from dyes to do anything useful.
I mean what's useful? Mainly i just want to do the reaction for the fun of it, and have a way to make aniline when I want to do something else with it, it's very versatile reagent.
Sodium dithionite or other reducing agent in water might do the work. But the reaction won't be clean and you will probably have to purify it to get your aniline.
Literally everyone on the internet hates me because I tell them that mercury and aluminum in vaccines is dangerous. Even when I state that it's only the additives and not the immunization itself, and that it doesn't affect everyone, people still get pissed.
The problem with proving this to people is most people have taken vaccines their whole lives, and nothing ever happens, while some only take a couple before their second birthday and then they have seizures and behave autistic
Why did this happen to me then? Don't give me bullshit that the vaccines had nothing to do with my development. They did. But what causes it? Poor genetic lottery? Accidentally got vaccinated into a vein?
Everyone just calls me misinfo'd or ignorant, but that would make sense if it was only a superstition. The vaccines actually did the shit the anti-vaxx stories say.
And now you're thinking
>"Someone who got poisoned by Thimerosal not only is he high-functioning and barely shows autistic signs, but hes posting on an imageboard about it."
It's like no one will ever believe me because no ones ever seen it happen except me, and people get SO ANGRY when I say vaccines did this to me. If you can handle vaccines, that's fine, you're the majority, but people like me are just called idiots because we're the minority science doesn't give a shit about because if they acknowledged us, they'd have to give up millions of dollars on lawsuits.
lel you're about the third form the left on the darwin chart arent you
>>9125382
Is the sodium fluoride bad for us? Are we being poisoned by the dentifrice?
>>9125382
I'm not an anti vaxxer but I understand where you're coming from. People get so into hating an opposing ideology that they completely stop considering the opposing view's claims. I feel like eventually people can come full circle and be just as brash and unwilling to examine the argument as the people they mock for doong the exact same thing.
I was Stargazing and just saw two huge flashs 10 seconds apart in the same spot, right next to Deneb, at about 20h40 right acension and 45° declination. The hell did i just see? It was about twice as bright as Deneb.
What is your physical location? It could have been something relatively nearby.
Some things that would make repeated flashes 10 seconds apart: satellites, high altitude airplanes, the classic men-in-black excuses "swamp gas" and "weather balloon", somebody shooting off illegal fireworks, asteroids burning up int he atmosphere in a small astroid shower...
the list goes on. Suffice it to say that we would need much more information, such as video and your GPS coordinates at the time of the sighting to make any reasonable guess
>>9125144
Im at the border between france and Switzerland, in the alps, small town called Arbusini
>>9125144
It couldn't be satellites, a plane or a meteorite because it flashed in the exact same spot
Any of these objects move fast, and even a small relative movement would be apparent 10 seconds appart
No, i think i saw something far away
What can science say about autism and the autism spectrum? What do you think of the topic? The way I see it, the symptoms of autism are not all caused by one single factor, but rather, they're the convergence, the consequence, of several different kinds of pressures that might come from different sources. Just like convergent evolution. So what exactly are the causes? And do you think high functioning autism is a good thing? Someone with HFA or Asperger's might have social problems and sensitivity to sounds and all that, but they also have higher intelligence. Do you think it should be considered a disease? In my opinion all autists are spergs, mistakes of evolution, and should be shot dead on sight. Tell me everything you know & think of this interesting topic.
>>9123983
>In my opinion all autists are spergs, mistakes of evolution, and should be shot dead on sight.
Most likely bait but hey, it is a slow day.
Autists take a completely different approach to any problem and are therefore most likely to be essential to breakthroughs. Humanity went down from the trees and out of the caves and every time a lot thought it was a bad idea, including leaving the oceans. Without autists we might have remained in the trees, micro optimising every part of life in trees rather than making houses from trees.
>>9123983
Autism is caused by the lack of instinct/automatization.
Lack of social instinct leads to poor social skills.
Lack of motor automatization leads to delayed cordination development.
Normies have an automatic process that makes their brain treat things that "feel similar" like they where the same. The lack of this is the reason why autists react strongly when things are even slightly off.
Autist don't automatically adjust to strong, unexpected or "mixed" stimulus. This leads to a sensitivity towards things like loud noices and weird textures.
>>9124482
Got a source for this?
I am especially interested how eidetic memory does not lend itself to automation.
How do half life's of radioactive substances work in relation to relativity? I assume its pretty straight forward. Lets say we accelerate some nuclear isotope with a long half life to the speed of light for 50 years. The isotope would only see 50 years of decay correct?
Tangential to ops question i have always wondered why radioactive decay is spontaneous and not constant. So if someone could explain beyond
"Radioactive decay is a stochastic (i.e. random) process at the level of single atoms, in that, according to quantum theory, it is impossible to predict when a . particular atom will decay,"
that would be awesome, especially if its on a retard level.
>>9123538
you want someone to explain it beyond the explanation? I'm confused.
I actually don't know the answer to OPs question on the other hand and I hope someone will answer.
>>9123588
>I actually don't know the answer to OPs question on the other hand and I hope someone will answer.
OP Here, is that meaning its a decent question? I had never read anything discussing something like that before and I assume its straight forward but I dont know enough about relativity to say, im just a shitter EE
Ok sci/ homework for tonight. How many triangles are there.
Pro tip: its not what you think it is
ten if you count the squares
I'm creating an idea in free-CAD and I need a water pump that fits within a 5 inch width. The water pump would need to be relatively inexpensive yet powerful enough to move small bodies of water. Any leads as to where I would be able to find a water pump like this?
>>9126958
What flow rate do you want?
>>9126965
I'm not familiar with flow rates.
If "information" in black holes is stored in 2 dimensions behind the event horizon of the black hole is it possible that we are actually just information stored in a 4d black hole as 3d information on its walls??
>>9126800
After watching, I get the distinct impression that they didn't research their topic thoroughly enough, but I'm not a physicist.
>>9126813
same it has alot of flaws, the way they try to stick to information even though matter inside black holes gets destroyed because of hawking radiation that destroys matter with antimatter it just doesnt make alot of sense
>>9126813
Same, I got a distinct "pop-sci" feeling from it
Survival of the Fittest. Who is the 'fittest?' Do some people have superior genetics to others?
Survival of the fittest is a Darwinist concept, and as such, it adheres to Darwin's rule that the ones with the most evolutionary fitness are the ones who reproduce the most. This means low-class redneck whites, the Hispanics with family-centered cultures, and black men.
