What exactly does water do for the body and why is it important to drink 3L a day of it despite being able to drink .5-1L a day and get by just fine?

Someone said its essentially lubricant for your cells and someone said your body seperates the hydrogen and oxygen and feeds them to your organs.

tl:dr; whats the difference between drinking optimal water levels and minimim water and what does water actually do.

you need water so your kidneys can work properly and you can piss the waste
>>
1. Is it true that too much water can put a strain on your heart?

2. Whats the difference health wise to drinking 3L of water a day versus only getting your water from food and liquids and sometimes drinking a glass or two on a hot day.

1. too much water can be as bad as drinking too little because, and I might be wrong, but it has to do with oversaturation. Your liver and kidneys need to flush all the bad shit and absord the needed shit, but with constant water, everything is diluted and pissed out.
2. You sweat a lot in the heat and your brain works harder for the same amount of tasks. Think of it like a computer CPU; you wouldn't let it burn itself out, you'd top up your coolants and then go easy in the heat.

>1. Is it true that too much water can put a strain on your heart?

too much water will lead to kidney failure. they will have to work too hard/till failure.

>2. Whats the difference health wise to drinking 3L of water a day versus only getting your water from food and liquids and sometimes drinking a glass or two on a hot day.

you will need to eat lots of food to get 2-3l a day and still get all your minerals/vitamins/optimal calories/etc. when you're able to manage this there is no problem with it.

your body is around 70% water
your body needs water to produce blood and to keep your cells functional. if you don't drink enough your blood pressure will get higher and your cells will eventually stop working. you die then. just drink around 2-4l a day
>>
You do not need 3L every day, it's a meme.

Just drink when you're thirsty.
>>
it takes a bit of time to adjust. humans do generally have some ability to adapt to daily water intake. too much water suddenly, especially in combination with exertion leads to acute hyponatremia--the thing that sometimes kills ravers when their brains swell. drastic reduction of water of course is bad, more prominently producing kidney damage--especially with shitty western diets that can produce kidney stones. it can also cause brain damage if heat stroke occurs.

>3L a day
Wtf man, you don't need that much.
>>
>>9127642
There is literally no evidence that you should be drinking that much. Drink when you're thirsty and you will be fine. That's the whole fucking point of thirst.
>>

>Wtf man, you don't need that much.

depends on your livestyle.
i need around 3-4l a day or i get headaches. working out and running in warm climates makes you sweat more. if you work a manual labour you need more too.
>>
As long as you aren't getting most of your water from sodas and the like probably 1l of extra water a day will be enough on top of the rest.
>>
You don't. Its a scam by the water companies
>>
Drink when you're thirsty. You can get water poisoning if you drink it excessively.

How about you just listen to what your body needs (IE thirst) instead of drinking some arbitrary amount of water that some asshat who went to school says you need? Everyones body is different and your body will use different amounts of water depending on what you are doing, what the temperature is, and the ambient humidity. You need water because many of your body's chemical and physical processes depend heavily on water. When you need more water for those processes, you get thirsty. So drink water if you are thirsty, dont drink it if you arent. Humans have been doing this for thousands of years, and its how your body is designed to operate.

1. Soft water (water with little to no mineral content) can lead to heart issues, its why alot of water utility companies mix soft water supplies with hardwater now (at least in some countries).

2. Just check the colour of your urine, people have different physiologies. For instance, African people tend to retain water better than caucasians, as do women compared to men.
