hey /sci/, i was going to post on /r9k/ but figured this would be a better place for it.
I spent about 4 years suffering from a chronic, very strong anxiety that stemmed from a bad personal issue and that I was not able to get over mentally no matter how much I tried... I only learned the bliss of Zoloft, otherwise known by the generic Sertraline, a few months again, and since then I feel like a totally new person, cured and reborn. I know about drug tolerance... will my world crash back down eventually? I currently take 200 mg a day. Thanks.
>>9131179
I had the same feeling with heroin, no you wont ever crash, your problems are gone and your brain is fixed. Hooray!
>>9131184
you took heroin as a medicine similarly to how i take sertraline? or you used sertraline as a medicine to treat symptoms of heroin addiction? either way, if the problems do disappear permanently that makes me very glad to hear!
>>9131184
I used to take Zoloft and it would trigger a false positive for opium every time I took a drug test

IQ has been completely debunked on Aug 23rd. It's amazing people still believe in psychometrics or IQ after this day. Join the pro-science ideology and accept climate change and blank slate theories. We all start off Equal.
>>9131151
Their arguments are worse than their comedy. I want the old CH.
>>9131151
Man they're just getting worse and worse. Discussing the origins of IQ tests somehow debunks modern IQ tests?
>>9131151
Why is this considered a "major scientific event"?
So I want to end up working as a Software Developer/Engineer. Considering that for the longest time I wanted to do Mechanical Engineering but recently decided that Software development was better for me I want to do a less meme route and go for Computer Engineering. Is this a viable route to get hired as a soft dev and will it prepare me enough for the job? My other routes would be a CS and Math hybrid major (not dual) or just saying fuck and studying CS. Any opinions? Advice? Anybody in a similar boat?
>>9131136
My advice would be to go fuck yourself, in the ass, with a corn cob covered in Tabasco sauce and broken glass
>>9131136
>CS
abandon all hope ye who enter
cs is really fun but i'm kind of wishing i picked something else.
>>9131144
Why do you say that?
my grandfather randomly gave me this when I left his house today, I know little math and have no clue what it means. He said it was a "message" for me, please help /sci/
He's literally telling you to stop being a normie brainlet.
lmao wouldnt be surprised, what does it literally say though?

Be greater than harmonic series
Is it possible to get a hurricane with sustained 200mph winds?
Yes.
>>9131042
Yes
No.
So I decided to go out for a mile run while holding in a shit( because I'm a retard degenerate) and suddenly the sweat from my asshole turned my shit into mush and it spread all over the place. Can this happen with any liquid or does sweat have an affect on shit?
It works with saliva too.
maybe ur shit was already mushy and you have a loose bumhole
>>9131039
There's a lot of pics of professional runners with shat pants on actual competitions. Seems like a normal thing to happen if you don't shit beforehand.
Finances tier god major?
math major with finance internship would be far superior
>>9131007
>Finances
thats a funny way of saying pure math, OP
Anyone have some statistics or anecdotal evidence as to which of the Meyer Briggs test results has the highest density of people on the autistic spectrum?
My guess is ISTP considering their mannerisms reflect that of someone with aspergers syndrome.
Meyer Briggs isn't even science.
INxx, ISTx, ENTx is where autism lives

Any other systems that classify personality types better?
>>9131014
any proof anon?
What if the solution to the Fermi Paradox is a hybrid between the first-comer hypothesis (we’re one of the first civilizations around) and the superpredator hypothesis (the first civilization seeks to destroy all competitors)?
It would mean technological progress is no longer primarily about improving lives, but rather about ensuring our survival in a first-contact scenario. If we’re in a close race with other civilizations, then a technological lag could set us back to a point where we can no longer catch up. On that account, creating a society where the rate of innovation is maximized becomes a matter of life and death.
How do we foster technological development? What is some research evaluating the impact (direct or indirect) of policy on technological development? Does the possibility of civilized alien intelligence make it urgent for us to accelerate our development?

Such an endeavour would require generation projects; building huge spaceships person by person in space. Such a spaceship that could use momentum to generate artificial gravity.
Prolonged space travel...Check.
Sustained fusion.... spaceship ecology..Check.
Only until we obtain fusion, so that we can give each spaceship a starting seed of a few atoms, could we spread the seed of ourselves into the universe on carfully chosen trajectories.
>>9131031
>could we spread the seed of ourselves into the universe on carfully chosen trajectories
You know they're going to include Negro DNA.
Shit, if an AYYY finds it, they'll think it's a bio weapon and they'll send relativistic missiles our way.
good news. even with currently theoretical FTL travel. the galaxy is still too large to make it likely that intelligent life would come across intelligent life by anything but the most random happenstance.
it no FTL is possible ever. Then we will never find intelligent organic life. though we might accidentally come across artificial intelligence that was created by organics millions of years ago.
Is a math degree really a meme degree?
yep. bio is the real deal.
There is no such thing as a “meme” science degree. The term was only invented by butthurt engineers when their work started getting outsourced to Pajeets
>>9130990
Pajeets are in tech not engineering you dip. Changs are a different matter.

MIT's motto is "Mens et Manus," which translates from the Latin to "Mind and Hand."

Knowing that IQ is highly heritable, from personal experience I know engineers in their thirties who have 0 kids and aren't even thinking about it or tell me that they just aren't ready yet, on the other hand I know people that work at mcdonalds and that really aren't all that Bright even when they try and some off them already have 2 kids and happily collect welfare checks, and this is happening all across Europe, I mean.. the results are obvious, please speak with 100% honesty, no sugar coating typical reddit bullshit that IQ is meaningless or isn't highly heritable, I know the research, I want to know your Opinion on this.
Why would mankind only be getting dumber now?
>>9130927
I will turn 30 in ~2.5 years.
Oddly, my feeling of urgency to find a partner increased from nil to the most important thing in my life after watching S;G. Itmade me realize how much I want a partner.
I'm just a dumb (engineering) tripfag, so maybe my genes are not worth after all...
I predict that in 100 years, the average IQ will be 100. Screencap this.
Can someone with an electrical engineering degree get into a Physics PhD program?
What would be required? I imagine taking some courses in Quantum Physics, Electrodynamics and such?
Also is this path recommended?
I want to have as many options as possible, meaning, if EE doesn't do it for me, I'll probably just get the EE degree, do a PhD in Physics (if possible) and work in Academia as a Physicist.
Meme option or is it viable?
>>9130912
yes. thats actually a good plan. you have a bit more work during your masters, but thats if you even make it that far.
if you end up hating academia you can still pay off student loans doing power or something else mundane that pays good. your company will probably pay for your masters anyways.
>>9130912
I did something similar: got into a Chemistry PhD program after a BSc. and an MSc. in Food Engineering without any problem.(In Europe.)
You can get into detector r&d. I'd suggest particle physics and detector physics. You should know some basic solid state physics already.
Should a university probability and statistics course require calculus? Calculus I is a pre-requisite for the PS course at my school, but the textbook does not use calculus at all. In fact, it looks very similar to the applied statistics course I took in high school (I think we even used the same textbook).
Am I getting jipped? I don't want to take applied statistics all over again.
Density variables.
Drumpf... easy on the scoops
So you don't want yo lean calc?
new semester starts in a month here in Germany and i decided to study mathematics/philosophy
any single book or a resource to help me refresh my memory of everything i forgot about math since I went to school? it's been 5 years and I'm wondering how fucked I am.
