Should a philosopher strive to be himself or to overcome himself?
Rational arguments only, Nietzschefags not invited lol
>>9032624
Strive for moderate happiness in a life with minimal vice obviously.
>>9032624
You can only (be) yourself by overcoming yourself
>>9032642
>happiness
>moderation
get a load of this faggot.
Hey /lit/, I need suggestions for a play about the hyper-sexualization of youth. It's for Speech and Debate in an event called Program Oral Interpretation. It is the competitors job to create a program/tell a story using different pieces of literature, from Drama to Prose to Poetry. Right now I have a Marge Piercy poem and Lolita, what play has similar themes (more so the loss of youth and victimization)?
Thank you!

Any Thoughts on Easton press publishing ? Have any of there books ? Are they to expensive/ not worth it ?
I've been Picking up a few here and there at garage sales but can't quite understand the crazy prices on eBay for these.. is there actual value in these books?
A few more examples
This is a great book btw
I paid $3.49 for the Easton Press version of Anna Karenina from a thrift store. People on eBay buy them for high prices, and EP still sells them for even higher, so yeah there's value in them.
They are, by far, the most well crafted books I've ever held. Full genuine leather covers, quality stitched binding, cloth inside cover, ribbon bookmark. They're definitely collector's editions, and higher quality than Everymeme's Library.
Personally I'm not too big on spending lots of money on a book I'll probably only read, at most, a handful of times. Paperbacks usually suffice for me. But if I come across a nice hardback for cheap like I did on this one, I'll pick it up.
What's /lit/'s opinion on the guy and where to start/what to skip?
ITT: Kant and everything philosophy related
The earlier translations are seriously fucked up. I didn't have a fucking clue what was going on in the first few pages of the copy of Practical Reason I borrowed. He's horribly inefficient at getting his point across, and shitty translations don't help.
>>9032629
>He's horribly inefficient at getting his point across
Oh eternal Anglo
This is why you will never transcend your petty pragmatist/empiricist paradigmata
>>9032629
Yeah, I feel your pain, man.
I have already heard of how notoriously prolix and roundabout his writings were, but up to actually trying it I thought that reputation was built solely by butthurt amateurs who picked the wrong starting point, but he's really something else.
I tried his Critiques first just after reading my first Nietzche book and i plainly could not bear it. I have been trying to get on his teachings again but all the advice i get is to start from "Groundworks". Since my local scene here is so weak i thought i could get some clarification from /lit/.
am i about to read a good book
>>9032517
what book are you going to read
>>9032517
probably
unironically has been my favourite book since i read it; makes you genuinely feel like you're in a bleary drug-addled fugue state after even just a few pages, and that feeling just sticks with you for a while
Was he right about the rise of Caesarism being the last gasp of Western Civilization?

Actually, he has it the wrong way around- Caesarism will bring back Western civilization.
Anyone here study post modern, feminist, marxist theory? I've wanted to get more into these subject matters because they seem to really correspond to my way of thinking. Also any queer theory and the sort would be really cool. I saw some classes in my course catalog at my local college that have stuff on race, class and gender in multiple disciplines of learning.

Is this "bait"?

Even if it is, I am constantly shocked at posters on this board lacking the ability to find decent source material in fields they want to study.
How do I find other hikki at my university?

Kek, keep trying, senpai.
Just put yourself out there. :^)
Why would a "hikki" be outside of his room?
Give books that explain why am I here in bad company enjoying mediocre entertainment.

Ubermensch does what he wants. Betas continue in their habits, not understanding why.

You're an asexual weenie who gets his pathetic satisfaction by slighting the big other. There is no ubermensch and you are no exception when you are still so blissfully ignorant of all the ways you are dependent on your habits. Easier to succumb than overcome of course..

What do ya think of this poem I wrote?
A twisting hand changes
My thoughts
from far off treasures limp and lost
To bending bridges along a body
In front of falling autumn tossed
Canaries call fourteen times
And quietly I cough and watch
This form of flesh and skin and teeth
Teetering on a bone
Leaving with a cigarette
Lit quickly in the stormy wet
I figure out it must be love
Or something else along those lines
Who can cleave the leaves from trees
Or clip these swollen feet from knees
Along this useless calf of mine
It may be love, but we’ll see in time
Bumpinggggg

>Or something else along those lines
That was funny, I admit.

I want to understand wittgeinstein. Please recommend books that can help me.
>>9032082
I suggest books by Wittgenstein. Unless there is some new meme philosopher called wittgeinstein that I am unaware of. If that is the case then I don't know how to help you op.
Start with the Greeks.
Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy is a good, free resource:
