Hey /lit/, If you knew an anonwho's followed a path from a shell of /mu/ and /fa/, what are some reads you would recommend him for his birthday?
gay porn
>>9495279
If he posts frogs, then I'd tell him to kill himself
>>9495286
He doesn't rest assured.
What is the most /lit/ profession, and why is it psychiatry?
>>9495273
cashier or on disability
>>9495273
I like this guy too much for my health. But, actually, the most lit employees are definitely Teacher's aids.
Pretty sure the most lit profession would be a writer
What are some good books about fitness and the beauty of a well trained human body?
>>9495212
>well traine
bicep curls 4x10 and pec deck 4x15 is not a well trained body
>>9495213

"The immense wealth of ancient Chinese literature is mostly a sphere apart from Western literary tradition and is rarely conveyed adequately in the translations available to us."
— Harold Bloom
Is he right? What would you include in a Chinese canon?
Four Great Novels.
I would then stop and go back to the West.
>>9495182
What a trite and banal answer. Have you even read the four classics?
>>9495175
Tang poetry.
>tfw you realize that this board has nothing of any intellectual value
Why do you still post here?
fun
>>9495095
Laughs.
Plus I like to entrench myself for months in different culture to get a feel for the land. What can I say, hate is mysterious.
Begrudging habit.
How do i tell if i'm a genius, average, or shit?
I write every day, but i dont show any of it to anyone because most of it is way too subtle or different to be appreciated. Should i show some of it to a professor to get a valid appraisal, or do you think even that won't be enough? They're in a cage of their own opinions and ideas of what a work of art should be. Should i write some populist shit first, then pump out progressively better books so people know it isnt nonsense or hack-tier garbage?
This isn't bait. I saw someone post something just like this the other day and you all thought it was some joke. I want actual advice, /lit/.
I might ruin it, but here are some influences:
James Joyce
Virginia Woolf
Alan Moore
DFW (to a healthy extent)
Pynchon
Delillo
Kafka
My enemies:
Nabokov
Joyce (think about it)
Hemingway
Smith
Nietzsche
I know im my mind that everything i write is great. I let it sit for the usual 3 months and when i revisit it, its just as good as when i wrote it. I dont understand why you guys have such a hard time writing, either. It's easy, and i call upon it at will. I dont have to wait for the right moment or anything.
>>9495074
>This isn't bait.
OK, I believe you now xD
>>9495074
>because most of it is way too subtle or different to be appreciated

delusions of grandeur breh. your word vomit after that phrase confirms it. you come off like you're very young...
my honest advice is to kys fgt or ask your 10th grade teacher for publishing tips.
>>9495074
>Joyce (think about it)
why
Being able to sell copies of your book is the only quality that actually matter.
Prove me wrong.
>>9495041
No quality of you or your work will ever be remembered forever. One day the sun will die. The best you can hope for is to make an anonymous contribution to the human race that pushes it in one tiny fraction towards a future culture of your own unfounded tastes.
>>9495041
What "matters" is a value judgement so if that's the only thing that matters to you, the conversation pretty much ends there. Great thread, OP.
Personal value is subjective. You can define it, but somebody else will always be able to disagree.
With that said, writing is very therapeutic. If I am never able to sell any of it, I will not feel like it was something I should never have bothered with.
I write porn for beer money. I've tried longer stuff but I lack the attention span to come up with a full novel outline, even just a ~25k word romance novelette.
Where do you sell the porn?
>>9495037
Amazon. I tried other places, but you can't do Kindle Unlimited if you sell in non-Amazon markets and KU makes me more money
Where? How?
I've posted to yaoi boards, but never get any offers.
A wrote a poem to my muse
Now is the winter of my discontent
And carrying many heavy burdens now
Which the world has thrown at me for me to bear
I wish a helping hand take this load of me
Yourself approached in the rainy dim night
Gave me all the love I never pictured
And helping with the many things I carried
Made me a better man, able now to carry on.
I love you, always will, canvas bags, you're my life.
>>9495023
>picture of woman
Into le trash
What does a girls shit taste like
>>9495075
Like a man's shit, but sometimes also tastes like copper
I've a faction I'm writing about, and need a name for them. Medieval fantasy setting
The world has a huge civil war going on, and a lot of the commoners are getting fucked over. This faction doesn't choose a side, and they make sure to just protect the commoners from other evils (banditry, monsters, etc etc).
I don't have a name for them, though.
I was hoping for something like The ___ Order. Any input?
Switzercucks.
The The ___ Order Order
You are legitimately retarded and will get nowhere as a writer. Pick whatever sounds good it isn't going to relevant. Do you think Order of Malta spent years picking out a name hoping it would go down in history?
Hello /lit/
I have no previous experience in learning a foreign language apart from taking German GCSE (got a shit grade didn't put any effort in so not counting it)
I've recently realised how important it is to learn mfl and how useful it would be in order to appreciate literature.
So any native speakers/people who've learned the language would you mind telling me how long it takes to learn
- French
- Italian
- Spanish
- Russian
(im starting latin classes in june and have already realised how long thats gonna take aha)
Thanks very much for any advice
just do it senpai
I write down the six gramathical persons on a column. Next to it, the verbs conjugated in each form and tense. Start with the most essential verbs can, have, being, want and you'll be able to form basic sentences. I've taught myself italian with this. (And watching anime dubbed all day). Took me about four months; but given spanish is my mother tongue it was a walk down the lane.
>>9495022
thanks for the advice mate, what level would you say you're at now with your italian?
Is there any work like this?
>>9494962
Any book that takes place on Earth
>>9494962
Malone Dies and The Unnamable (probably)
>>9494962
Geraldo Party
my very first book purchase
what am I in for?
why would you buy this for your first read?
you're in for it all going over your head
I suspect you're trolling but you are not going to finish that if you're not at least a somewhat seasoned reader. It's not a hard book to understand, but it takes a lot more patience than you expect.
>>9494947
I just read this and I spent the entire book repeating the words "This is reddit, this is memes, this is reddit, this is memes..." under my breath.
I fucking hated it. I was writhing around on the floor in front of my sofa for the last 30 pages it was so painful.
>Ayy quirky brothers lmao
If you liked it you're in the wrong place
Is there a novel that captures the simple aestethic and moral feel of Calvin and Hobbes that some strips such as pic related have?
Not his dinosaur and spaceman imagination
but when the two talk plainly about thought provoking things
without diving too deep and avoiding to seem pretentious by not explaining or elaborating on them.
>Don't recommend actual Thomas Hobbes
the bible
>>9494945
yeah, it's called reddit, you should visit it
>>9494952
This.
You. Are. Going. To. LOVE it.
Just bought pic related. What am I in for?
>>9494943
Romans. And lots of them.
>>9494943
