What is the literary equivalent to The Room?
Corey Feldman
Sonichu
Russel Brand's Revolution
>come to /lit/

>"western"
>nothing
Excusee my goosee, but I can't respect this board until I see what kind of westerns you've been reading
Pic related is my collection, half of which I need to read still.
Let's talk about westerns, you guys
>that spacing
Fuck off.
>>9496255
>genre fiction

>>9496261
it's reddit spacing, apparently you have to tap enter twice to make a new line
>>9496275
never been to reddit. i just like spacing it twice
Any essential books on the topic of Aeshetics? A friend and I were talking about creativity and he said that I would enjoy this sort of thing. I mostly read fiction.
The Origin of the Work of Art by Heidegger
On the Sublime and the Beautiful by Burke
The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction by Bejamin
Poetics by Aristotle
Aesthetic Theory by Adorno
Hegel and Kant's aesthetics are certainly more challenging but also important, as many philosophers draw ideas or try to criticise them
Do y'all know of any literature with an atmosphere of urban ennui?
bump for interest
does urban mean black people? i kinda think it has to if you can't easily think of an example.
This is a pretty broad theme, there are probably a bunch of books that fall under it. Just off the top of my head you could check out the works of Jerome David Salinger and Haruki Murakami.
Do you keep a diary or journal /lit/? Not intended to be published, but just for your personal thoughts.
Yes I do.
What does one use a diary for?
Would you recommend, or at least approve of, a person working through the canon backwards? For example, start with meme books like Infinite Jest and then work your way all the way to Homer. What are the pros and con's of doing this?
nobody cares
>>9496135
what is the POINT of doing this?
stupid fuck
Pro: It would be easier since you're starting with your own culture's works and slowly moving towards literary works that can be alienating if you down put the work in.
Con: Texts build upon one another, so there's quite a bit you would miss (or misunderstand) in Shakespeare if you're not familiar with Roman playwrights.
Or, and this is a suggestion, you can read whatever the fuck you want without seeking the approval of strangers on a Cambodian basket-weaving forum.
>>9496130
That's pretty broad. What are you interested in?
>>9496130
Assuming that "critical theory" and "literary theory" have some overlap, you could do worse than pic attached.
Why the fuck would you want to learn critical theory instead of the scientific method?
Do you want to be cucked by the kikes?
Ok, who's gonna copy and paste a transcript of this Pynchon interview right here?
https://www.theparisreview.org/the-art-of-fiction-no-224-thomas-pynchon
>There is a video of Pinecone playing the bongos in a James Wood mask on YouTube.
Anyone want to look for it?
>>9496032
Would love it.
its a hoax foax
Hi, /lit/.
I will be spending next week at pic related. Usually, when I do that, I stock up my kindle with fantasy or sci-fi, and get to read a good amount. This time, however, I won't be doing any drugs, so I decided to pack some reading material that would require me to think a bit. So, please recommend me philosophy books, preferably in an organised reading order. I've never read philosophy, so I don't know where to start, so please be thorough. Thanks!
Commence with the Hellenes.
>>9495925
Ok, but is there like a read order? Where do I start?
Iliad and Odyssey. If you finish them read some Plato. Throw Clouds by Aristophanes in there to take the edge off.
Has the Stirner meme died?
Dying is literally a spook.
>poster who use "post-modern" as an insult
>>9495915
Fucking hopefully. Clean ur room new meme
Wasn't really sure where to post this. Do people still read blogs? What's the best platform for running one?
I've been wanting to make one for a while now, don't really care if it gets any views or anything, it's more cathartic than anything. I want to have an outlet where I can post whatever's in my head at any given moment knowing anyone could read it (even if they don't)
tumblr
wordpress
blogspot
they're all the same, it's just text. you could have googled this in like 10s. i don't believe that you don't care about views.
>>9495879
you've got me there, I want to be internet famous, clearly a blog is the best way to do it
>>9495873
What are books/authors that you recommend that will help improve and mature myself and my overall character as a person.
I was raised through elementary and middle school being forced to read religiously by my teachers and this made me develop an avid hate towards reading. Once i got to highschool I spent my free time playing video games and didn't read a single book on my own freewill that entire time. I'm 21 now and realized this is the part of my life that I need to take action to trying to improve myself as much as possible as the next few years will define the man that I will become for the rest of my life. I don't really care what genre of writing it is (philosophical books, memoirs, fiction, nonfiction), I just want to try to improve myself through reading as much as possible.
>TL;DR: Havent read for years and want good books to improve one self all around character/person
>>9495745
anything and everything. read the sticky.
start with the greeks.
>>9495745
Goffman's the Presentation of Self in Everyday Life is a good read for understanding the way in which people interact and will better you as a person.
Here it is online for free:

Who was the superior philosopher?

Nietzsche
God fucking damn it threads like this makes me hate /lit/ with all the power of life I have in me. If /lit/ was a little kid and it said something like this I would whip it with pic related and then rub my dick cheese all over its wounds. Everyone in this thread is so stupid that I am literally pulling my hair out right now. You were supposed to be the chosen ones you fucking walls, you were supposed to be the last bastion of intellectuality in this degenerate world and yet you still only post idiotic shit like this. You know what would have been a better question, one that I would have giggled and clapped at? Whether the Complete Works of Aristotle volume is better for rubbing your dick in than the Complete Works of Plato volume. Instead you post shit like this that is neither funny, nor insightful, nor respectful in any way towards our time and our lives even. Nobody will ever remember your shitty thread you fucking bottle dweller. It's as if you gave us a glimpse into death itself. FUCK.
i don't want books for the brain
i want books for the heart
post some books that will leave me an emotional wreck, books that will make me FEEL
Grapes of Wrath.
Suttree
Stoner
My diary desu
I presume /lit/ is full of pseudo-intellectual aspiring writers.
Where do you get your inspiration and topics/subjects to write about and how do you motivate yourself to write?
I think of the coolest story possible.
I don't motivate myself to write, I just write. At least 2000 words a day. If you have to motivate yourself you're not cut out for it.
>>9495671
>Where do you get your inspiration and topics/subjects to write about
Usually from things i'm experiencing like amalgams of different "storylines" going on within my life.
Or I have a feeling or idea that I want to explore so I think of a scenario or story that WOULD explore that or really embody that feeling for me and then i try and write it.
>how do you motivate yourself to write?
i'll usually be sitting around not doing anything and think "i should be writing right now" and then I start writing
You gotta just start doing it. You can't think about it. Action creates new pathways in your brain. If you do the same thing for 30 days in a row, it sticks as a habit. Write everyday for 30 days in a row, you'll keep writing everyday. Setting patterns in your behavior is remarkably easy to do with brute force.

Oh, I also quit wasting my time. When I completely swore off video games my productivity sky rocketed.
