It's amazing to think that, without the invention of the book, we would still be primates.
This alone makes the Egyptians the most important civilization in history.

I unironically think it's better than War and Peace.
And I was surprised how Sholokhov is frank about excesses of communists too, given how he was communist. Also surprised Stalin allowed him to publish this.

I heard that sholokov didn't even write it
Michel Houellebecq. What should I read by him first?
And what should I read to prepare myself for him so that I get the most out of him? I've concerned myself with the Greeks, in case anyone is thinking of suggesting that.

>And what should I read to prepare myself for him so that I get the most out of him?
He doesn't have hidden depths. He's a pretty mainstream, shallow writer. Buy atomised at the airport and read it on a beach.
restart with the Greeks
Are philosophy and literature objectively the worst fields to study, following directly behind gender studies?
For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?
>>9493819
Is autism objectively the worst disease?
in a perfect world you should be studying what you're passionate about but most people study what they think gives them money the easiest.
>half way thru this turd
>literally nothing is happening except some normie fucking his gf and hanging out with his friends
great book
>>9493807
Well, the real story actually starts at the very half of the book
>>9493807
The first half is very comfy
>>9493807
The philosophical themes are more obvious in the second half of the book but it's still terribly overrated and inneffective at making whatever philosophical case it is trying to do.
Look at her, sweating, overwhelmed, nervous about the giant stack of mass that barely fits upon her palms. How can we calm her down?
Give her a Charles Dickens

She said "I'm not interested in classical literature"

As a man named Charles, I'm ashamed I've never came up with that.

Oh boy, that's gonna be hard. Just try to stick to the easiest things like common greek literature (non-philosophy, mostly plays) that you will need later anyway
I tried to listen to audios at cardio too, but i had to re-read/re-listen them at home almost every time when the piece contained any serious thought and was more than just a narrative
The only true way to benefit from philosophy is to start with the French. The greeks were wrong about everything, and pseuds talk about them as if their understanding of all of their nonsense makes them intelligent.

>The first ray of light which illumines the gloom, and converts into a dazzling brilliancy that obscurity in which the earlier history of the public career of the immortal Pickwick would appear to be involved, is derived from the perusal of the following entry in the Transactions of the Pickwick Club, which the editor of these papers feels the highest pleasure in laying before his readers, as a proof of the careful attention, indefatigable assiduity, and nice discrimination, with which his search among the multifarious documents confided to him has been conducted.

I'm writing a letter and I need help with one part. I suffer from bad depression and i need help expressing something in a nicely written way. Each morning when I wake up I experience my only moments of happiness. In the few seconds or minutes upon waking up where I haven't yet thought of anything, I'm truly happy. Sometimes my cat is there. It's in those moments of nonthinking that I feel okay. Sometimes it last a few seconds sometimes more. But eventually I always remember my depression. I want that part of my letter to stick out. So those reading it can feel better knowing that I wasn't always sad and maybe they can even enjoy the moment themselves one day. Thanks you.
Get fit bud. No use in writing that stuff.
>>9493597
I am. I run 5 days a week. It never made me happier. Just made me think I might live longer.
>>9493641
Not running, i mean lifting.
I have depressive tendencies. I counter it with sport and just accepting me.
It's not a possibility for more intense problems.
