How is it possible to think about those Chinese factory workers and then think about your own life and take stuff like morality, economic justice, and your own merit seriously? It's like the idea of tbe worker who does 12 hour shifts 6 days a week in a soul crushing job requirements has to be swept under the rug in order for us to pretend we are smart and hard working and deserving.
I also think living in an industrialised society has effects on my values that other people don't care about. For example, how can people take pride in factory jobs where the conditions can easily be made out of kilter with our evolutionarily designed physical and mental needs? Only gamification and willful ignorance of the bigger picture can result in pride.

My great-great-grandpa fought in WWI, came back a bit shellshocked and later supported the NSDAP and was a member of the SA. He has cut his veins and hanged himself 1938, even before WWII started, probably because of his WWI experiences. I still have some photos and the old family book with all the Aryan certificates, family register, rules and all kind of that stuff.
My great-grandparents supported Hitler aswell. To them he was a great leader, true German, supporter of German workers and someone who restores order in Germany. My great-grandma always told me that it was more civilizised when Hitler was in charge. Everyone had work and you could leave your bike somewhere outside for days and nobody would steal it. When it comes to Jews she said that they were strange people who did dishonest work like going from door to door and sell random shit in an annoying kind of way. This is all I have heard about jews. But I guess back then, my great-grandparents were not aware of the actual genocide that happened.
My grandparents were very young in the nazi era and they are not really political. All they remember about this time is war, bombs, bunkers and hunger. My grandpa was a bit traumatisied because he has seen corpses on the streets and he also hated Americans and Brits, because they burned the food reserves of the city in front of his eyes, while he was starving.
One of my grandfathers is from Spain. He came here in the 60's and married a German woman (my grandma). He is a full fascist and Franco supporter. When he speaks about Hitler, he refers to "Unser Führer" (our Führer) and he claims to be able to distinguish between different Afro-Asian ethnicities depending on their skull shape and nose and he hates non-Europeans in general.

Me being a black man desended from dlsvery and a Roman Catholic, Im not really bothered by it at all since my African Heritage is hard to trace back, I usually cling to my Catholic roots to justify my lineage.

So I just read Osama Bin Laden's letter to America (written in 2002 following the 9/11 attacks) and honestly found it to be one of the most eye-opening pieces I have read in a long time. It sounds like something that was written literally yesterday given how eerily accurate his concerns are with regards to our government's actions. I feel like back in 2002 we as a society were not yet acknowledging the whole military-industrial complex and what we were really doing over in the Middle East. But Osama was right on the money with most of it.
More importantly, the letter kind of opens your eyes to the fact that these Muslims are an ancient culture with a history that exponentially eclipses the young state of America. The idea of this war to us sounds absolutely insane but that is simply because our frame of existence is so much smaller than theirs. This isn't the first time in their history that they have fought a supposed aggressor. Combine this with the fact that their desire to die literally exceeds our desire to live, and it's easy to see why this 'war' has ended the way it has.
I highly recommend you read it if you haven't already.
With that said, here is my question: the main catalyst that seems to have sparked this entire thing is America's support of Israel. The Palestinians conquered the Romans and took control of the land. At some point, America intervened and supported Israel's seizure of the area and also continues to support it to this day. I understand that it sucks to get invaded and have your land stolen - but is there anything about Israel's actions that were unfair in the context of typical war/conquests? Are these Muslims just particularly assmad about something that is a "part of life" so-to-speak, or do they have an actual grievance outside of just losing their land?
