Did people in the past unironically believe in White Man's Burden?
>>3066808
People still believe it today. These days they like to hide their racism behind progressiveness and tolerance though.

Recently history teaching was cut back in my country. Will people become dumber because of this? Basic knowledge is useful so you don't end up with these idiotic tattos.

During the Weimar Republic, why did the Communist Party and the National Socialist party hate each other, seemingly more than they hated the other parties? I mean, at that time both were socialist, right?
Why do the People's Democratic Republic of Korea and the Republic of Korea hate each other? They're both Korean republics, right?
>>3066516
Because someone who's seen to betray the cause is worse than the common enemy.
>>3066523
In that case there's a clear divide, both ideologically and geopolitically. Capitalist nation backed by USA versus communist nation backed by USSR. I don't see how that helps understand why the commies and nazis hated each other.
So /his/, How differet would human histroy be if Hitler died in the trenches of WW1, and what effects would it have on the modern day?
>>3066447
The Weimar republic eventually recovers and there is no war. Everything is pretty chill and the cold war starts maybe 10-20 years early.
there would be someone with another name
he basicly hijacked the nazi party
>>3066448
>The Weimar republic eventually recovers and there is no war.
The Weimar Republic was already caught rearming the airforce and violating the Versailles Treaty. Carl Von Ossietzky was killed for treason after exposing German re-armament.
I know this isn't a very convincing argument, but I highly doubt it would be "pretty chill"
I was wondering what your thoughts are on this matter. I have an interest in both time periods, both Napoleonic Wars and the Late/Western/Eastern Roman Empire periods. Historical reenactments call for as reasonably accurate gear as possible, and I'm wondering which of the two may be more expensive to work with, in developing the starter kit? Which direction should I go? What are good online stores to look for historical reenacting gear?
>>3066159
Napoleonic if you're UK based.
It's not a cheap hobby mind. A lot of the uniform tends to be made in house using well researched materials and is hand stitched.
Full redcoats uniform and firelock can cost about £1200.
But its a great community to be part of, and most groups have loan kit that they're happy for you to use until you can get your own stuff.

I'm from the USA, but thank you for your advice! There's a possibility I may not join any groups, though, but just have the uniforms and gear for my own collection.
>>3066521
Whatever you do, don't go cheap. You can get cheap jackets made with mediocre wool and made by pakistanis but it tends to be ill fitting and you'll end up ditching it for the proper stuff anyways.
What, so far, has been the most convincing account of the truth of freedom of the will, or the falsity of freedom of the will? Try and say what the view is and why you think it's the best view to have.
>>3066103
>What, so far, has been the most convincing account of the truth of freedom of the will, or the falsity of freedom of the will?
Neurologists have scanned the brain and seen that the decision to move a limb is made before the person is aware of it, and described the human consciousness as being along for the ride - you are a viewer, and observer of how your body acts, rather than an actor making decisions.
The decision to do something is made, then the process of doing that thing begins, then you are made aware of that decision, then you use your great power of rationalization to convince yourself that you made that decision.
Anyways, the burden of proof lies with free will supporters, not the other way around.
Free will isn't apparent, and isn't the least complicated solution, you should prove that such a unique and philosophically awkward thing exists, not assume it to and ask others to prove otherwise.
>>3066347
To append to this, a more curious question than if there is free will (anyone who looks at the question properly will deduce there isn't), is the question of how our social structure would work without the construct of free will?
Without blame, without merit, how do we judge criminals, how do we thank people for doing something good, and so on, if we publicly agree that what they did was just a consequence of their life until now, how they were raised, how society treated them, what positions they were put in, and so on.
Can't blame them, since they just observed the chain of dominoes coming down.
Free will in this sense is, like God, a construction required for humans to live in larger groups together, rather than just extended family packs like wolfs.
>>3066347
>rationalization
Indeed, it's worth nothing that most of your actions are rationalized post-facto. And on the flip side, the reason you did something in many cases is that you had precommitted to doing so beforehand (hopefully after thinking about it back then), so even when you've planned your actions you've only enslaved your future self to your past self's decisions: you still don't have free will in the present and few even realize what they're doing when they narrow their range of action by planning.

Did the Hebrews build Ancient Egypt like the negroes built America? Also discuss Hebrews in Ancient Egypt fable
No. There's really no proof that Hebrews were ever in Egypt in any significant numbers, unless you count the period when Egypt was ruling over the Levant.
>>3066010
Although there is no proof of an Exodus, there is archeological evidence of a Hebrew presence in Egypt, specifically as slaves.
Serabit el-Khadim, an ancient camp in the Sinai has the inscription "O El, save me from these mines." Most likely the first ever words from a Hebrew that was ever written down.
>>3066010
>Did the Hebrews build Ancient Egypt like the negroes built America?
Yes. Africans need to give Jews reparations.
Is there any good evidence that Noah's flood happened? Or is the church just shilling?
Had a passing listen to a Viasat History documentary once about how the idea of a great flood happening long ago isn't exclusive to the old testament but is common among pretty much all cultures and coincides around a time when some supermassive lake someplace around canada spilled out into the oceans due to melting icecaps, causing rising sealevels and floods globally. Haven't looked into this so have no idea of the validity, but that might be an interesting starting point.
>>3065883
Well, not with the entire world under water, and not literally two of every animal sans some unicorns that were late to the game, but certainly mankind did experience sudden and massive sea level rises, and as every civilization was birthed near a major water source, most certainly experienced devastating floods, and for a few, it probably was effectively their entire world. In the end, however, much like giants, it's a common fear involving some real life experience, writ large.
There's several parable stories, but none really share a specific time frame and are often derived from one another. Noah's story, for instance, is pretty clearly taken from the much older Epic of Gilgamesh.

>most of planet covered in water

How could you even kill this guy? It's practically impossible to kill this guy with a sword or spear or any medieval weapon, because he's armored from top to the bottom.

I mean yeah, it's devastated us (pic related), but we haven't yet caved in. I'm also extremely proud that we aren't commies either, we're mostly individualistic people who hold classic and modern liberal beliefs. Good work boys.
