I've found a few websites such as global security but other than that I can't find other websites that talk about troop strength for various NATO countries during the Cold War.
By troop strength, I mean numbers of men in their various military branches. For example how big was the Italian military during the Cold War? How large was it army, navy and air force (including how many aircraft in the air force).
How large was the Bundeswehr including the Heer, Airforce and Navy? How many troops were in the Turkish Armed forces during the Cold War?

Can someone explain to me how Japs traditionally slept on the equivalent of sleeping bags/flat mattresses(if rich) with nothing but tatami mats as a base on plywood flooring for most of their existence?
I have slept on hardwood floor with a pillow and two comforters as a base before(when I crashed at a friend's place) and it was the most uncomfortable sleep I had ever experienced. I woke up with aches.
How the fuck did they not have some serious back/joint aches? I don't know how soft tatami mats are but they don't seem as soft as wall-to-wall carpeting to me. Sleeping on the floor without a bed frame/box spring is ass.

For an intro class, yes. 2000 word essays are nothing; if you're anything like me, you'll average 800 words on a single spaced page (halve that if your professor wants doublespacing), so you're talking 2.5-5 pages. Depending on how much research you need to do, you should be able to kick that back in an afternoon, 2 days at the very most if you need to do a lot of looking into things.
