PC Building General: Digital Portable Chronometer Engineering Special Edition.
Post your component list, rate other anons', and ask questions in general.
Always state the purpose of your PC, your budget, AND YOUR COUNTRY if outside the USA.
If you are asking for improvements, clarify whether you want to lower price or to improve specs or build quality.
Assemble your parts list; built-in price comparisons by vendor and a compatibility filter.

Have a budget, but don't know where to start? This will recommend you a parts list based on price.

>Subsitute a G4560 with 2400MHz RAM for the i3-6100 in any build; same performance, half the price.
>Consider substituting an i5 7500 for the i3 in any RX470/480 or GTX 1060 tier build
>Consider stock fan+heatsink for any i3 or locked i5 build without a Z mobo
>Consider a B150/B250 or H110 mobo for any i3 build
>Add a 240GB SSD to the "Great" tier build

I'll be overclocking, but nothing crazy.
>>58742806
Let me guess.
>I'm scared of overclocking
>I love nvidia
>Dude Z motherboards are so EXPENSIVE XDDD
Why can't this $50 worth of hardware be on sale for $50? Also, without the dumb fucking gaymen controls.
>>58742692
that piece of shit is runing gnome? gnome consumes like 500MB of ram just starting it....
>>58742692
some fags made a mini-pc just like that, but that's running windows. Much cheaper too, because it had a kikestarter and mass-produced. You can just replace the windows on it with gahnoo slash loonix.
>>58742692
The 'gaming controls' really are what make me not want to get something like this to be honest.
>tfw upgraded from the shitty fx 8350 to the GOAT pentium g4560
amd, never again
>tfw still stuck with fx 6300 that I've had for nearly two years
soon, I WILL BE FREE!!!
>>58742729
>have 8350
It's been four long years.
I don't think it's a shitty CPU necessarily, just long in the tooth. Going to repurpose it as a server CPU. Dat multithreading.
>>58742969
the fx 6300 is not a bad cpu, it just sucks for modern AAA gaming, I'm probably going to put it into a build that I'm going to give to a lower class girl I know that has been giving me free weed for awhile. she has been looking for a computer for awhile, least I can do.
Has anyone here ever tried to see how shitty of hardware they could make do with to accomplish their everyday wants/needs without issues? I see talk here about minimalist software, but how many posters try to see how far they can go with minimal hardware?
whatever with the with the meekest specs that can act as a terminal and ssh/telnet/dial in/serial link to a server is kind of cheating, i guess, since it's not *really* running stuff native. but i think that's the best way of getting use out of the reeeally old shit
that aside, the hp dos palmtops with mtcp can wget, ftp, irc, telnet, and there is a real mode lynx build out there. won't be encrypted, obviously
I'm going to try stack a raspberry Pi cluster instead of buying a real server, or a pc to act as a server.
I make do with an old thinkpad. No accessories to speak of except the charger ofc. It's the only tech in my house. Downside is that I have to pay Verizon for my 4g card to avoid an ugly router and cable invasion.
do you even use a printer over like 23
How else are you going to print your Amazon Prime return shipping labels.
>>58742501
I print them at work.
>>58742490
Very rarely, but a 90s era Laserjet stays hooked up under my desk just in case.
I have 3000$ to build a decent gaming PC and I'm incompetent af.
How do I build a gaming PC? Also, what parts should I buy?
>>58742429
No one is going to spoonfeed you. Just go buy a prebuilt alienware gaymer machine
READ THE FUCKING STICKY
>>58742429
this board is for shitposting. everyone here is poor.
>no good technology discussion websites
Are we stuck with /g/ forever?
Enjoy your stay
>>58742406
I'd rather discuss '''''''''''''''''''technology"""""""""""""""""""""""" with dumb frogposters, /v/ kids and arch loonix sperglords than with definitely-not-paid tech revieweres, forums moderated by paid shills and people who ask if they can run ten year old games on their outdated i5/8GB RAM/gtx 980 setups.
Depends on what you're talking about OP. If you want consumer discussion aka /v/ 2.0, /g/ is perfect.
If you're looking for academic discussion of computer science, engineering, and related subfields, I'd suggest sticking to the /dpt/, heading to /sci/, and probably better than both of those, giving up on 4chan and lurking/posting on stackoverflow.
Guys, why don't you donate to the FSF?
I donated $20. Donate your code, time, or money to the FSF to ensure freedom lasts.
Because they don't do anything useful anymore and spend donation money on diversity bullshit
I donated $100 at one point
>donate $100
>they use it to pay trannies and pajeets, anyone except a fucking white male
No thanks
>>58742329
Its shit. Nothing is stable, all packages interfaces are constantly changing and breaking. The python community looks like a well planned orchestra compared to npm.
>>58742329
Its great.
The language runtime itself is fine and has a lot of neat and expressive features that manage to be fairly performant in a lot of cases.
npm is kind of an awful clusterfuck but it's fairly easy to avoid the worst of it.

Literally a trash can
>Linus Torvalds uses fedora with gnome
>Terry Davis uses ubuntu with unity
>Richard Stallman hasn't never installed linux
>meanwhile 4chan autists need ultra-personalized arch + windows managers and dual monitors to feel productive
explain yourselves

>>58742114
you still haven't realized that /g/ is the same as /b/ but slightly more technology related ?
>>58742325
you still don't know that /g/ is coming from hell OP?
>>58742094
That's a GPU
>>58742094
anon, what the hell did you do...
It's a solder-ball grid array (BGA) , so it doesn't have a socket. Not sure it's even a CPU, looks like a recent AMD GPU to me.
"1" + "1" - "1" = 10
only in javascript
>>58741991
>being a retard that uses type coersion
>expects numbers written as strings in formulas to render the same result as numbers
you're the retard here, not js, you fucking babby.
"1" + "1" = "11" and that's nothing fucking new
then you do "11" - 1 so of course js just tries to interpret the string as a number
gtfo
>>58741991 (OP)
>>58742083
Not JS programmer nor OP but:
OP:
>"1" + "1" - "1" = 10
Angry webpleb:
>then you do "11" - 1
>>58742083
Its no "11" - 1 but "11" - "1"
Is there any DE that can actually compete with cinnamon? Their developers should honestly just give up and recognize cinnamon's superiority.
>>58741930
The Cinnamon extensions manager is pure shit compared to GNOME 3
>>58741952
Well obviously. Cinnamon is Gnome 2.
>>58742003
Mate is Gnome 2
