No, Polaris was DOA because Pascal showed up, and Vega is DOA because it'll show up literally one year after Pascal did.

Imagine the use case of carrying a light, weak computer and connecting (via 3G/4G or wifi) to a home server running linux to ensure a consistent work environment. How would you do this? VNC over SSH? Isn't there a better way? VNC has issues. Does SSH really cover that?

ssh -Y?

VNC or SSH over VPN is how I would do it. But you'll need sufficient upload bandwidth for your home network.
>>
>>58746763
under no circumstances is this going to be like streaming a desktop locally or being at the actual desktop itself.

There's huge mouse and input lag, don't expect to watch anything or edit any sort of video from the client.

But for browsing, coding and shitposting, it does the trick just fine.

and yeah, use SSH and VPN. Use ufw and fail2ban to piss off bots and assholes as you normally would.

Try plugging something else into the outlet the TV is using to make sure that breaker isn't tripped.

You know the difference between the people being paid to do something and the people doing it as a passion project?

Most of the people being paid are being made to do it, and half the time are doing quick shortcuts just to get deadlines done on time.

Linux is made with love, not the threat of homelessness.

/g/ im teaching myself java and im wondering if i should get a separate laptop just to code with? i have a laptop but i dj with that one so its pretty bogged down with music. is the normal thing people do? get a specific laptop for coding?
8 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
If you have money to blow on an extra laptop then go for it. Here's what I do though

>download virtualbox
>download an iso of your favorite flavor of Linux (Ubuntu is good if you're new to linux)
>set up a virtual machine with at least 20 gb of disk space
>start programming, install whatever you want without worrying about messing up your computer
>>
>>58746482
never thought about that! if i do decide to go the route of getting another latpop is there any hardware specs i should get? i dont think coding is hardware intensive but i have very limited knowledge.
>>
>>58746502
If your DJ laptop has some space left (20 GB) and is relatively powerful, then you should absolutely go for the VirtualBox approach. I do the same.

If you really want a laptop that's comfortable for programming and will last a while, then go for anything in the $600 to $800 range. Most people on /g/ will recommend Lenovo ThinkPads of some flavor, personally I liked the IdeaPad series more. You'll have to decide and do some research on your own, though. You will probably be wiping it anyway to install Linux on it (Ubuntu is good, Linux Mint (Cinnamon) is more visually familiar when you come from a Windows environment). You don't really need a great graphics card. Just a comfortable keyboard, a screen that isn't too small (glossy or matte is an important decision, but entirely your own) and a good processor. An i5 will be enough.

My family sends me out for Subway sandwiches frequently because thats about all I'm good for. There is sometimes up to 7 people and they are very picky about their orders and throw enormous tantrums if I don't get it exactly right. Me being the total retard I am can never remember everything.

How hard is it to write a phone app? I don't know hardly anything about programming. All I want it to do is have boxes that I can click like I'm taking an order and then spit it out in text so I can order the food.

button 1
>footlong or 6 inch
button 2
>kind of bread
button 3
>toasted?

and then at the end it just types it all out like:
SANDWICH 1: FOOTLONG MEATBALL ON WHEET BREAD W/ BLAH BLAH BLAH
SANDWICH 2: 6 INCH ON BLABH;ABAJ

There's this radical new invention called a notepad. It's a little on the expensive side, but you should look into it sometime. it might be exactly what you need.

Hey everyone!
It's my first time posting on 4chan, so I'm not sure what the community is like here, but I hope you guys can help me out:) I am a 20yo Graphic Designer, Videographer, Entrepreneur. I have recently started teaching myself to code after I had an epiphany about a month ago about a social network app that can change the way couples use social media. This app has the potential to have a billion dollar valuation in just a matter of years. I see it and I believe in it. I will make it happen. I have been on my grind 24/7 building on this dream I have.
Anyway, I'm looking for a dedicated coder (HTML5, CSS & Js preferably). Level of experience? I really don't care. I would just like someone who can see my vision too. We can learn things together. I don't truly *need* a coder, I can learn all the coding myself, but I would really like somebody to bounce ideas off of and make this thing happen. I was recommended by a friend to post here, I hope you guys can help me out. Much thanks :)

How do you get a programming job without a degree in the United States? What is *enough* of a portfolio to do that?

Spoonfeed me. I want a direct and complete answer, because I've heard answers to this before but they often contradict eachother. Also people say "do open source shit" but nobody explains how MUCH of that I should have under my belt before applying anywhere. I need more opinions.

Ferret unrelated.
