>pajeets on /g/ are saying linux is insecure because of the vault 7 revelations
>vault 7 only listed 3 linux exploits
>two of the linux exploits are out of date
>one of the exploits is completely unusable on any modern distribution
>99% of the linux relevant documents are tutorial guides
94 posts and 12 images submitted.

Here are the exploits:

Privilege escalation exploit through HAL - HAL hasn't been used since 2011. Every distribution switched to udev

https://wikileaks.org/ciav7p1/cms/page_9535850.html

Sparrow xorg (?) exploit - It doesn't even work on Linux

https://wikileaks.org/ciav7p1/cms/page_524321.html

Gyrfalcon - the only actual, working exploit mentioned by vault 7

https://wikileaks.org/ciav7p1/cms/page_9535842.html
>>
Basically that's just the shit we now know about, they were using those exploits when they worked and now no doubt are using more exploits that we don't know about

by the time we find out what they have been up to, it's out of date. They keep up to date though

The 1700 is very good tbqh, but Why did they charge so much for the 1800X? It's literally a 95W Overclocked 1700, same for the 1700X.

R5 will be the best though, with lesses cores, they will manage to get much higher clock speeds.
>>
>>59288044
>Why did they charge so much for the 1800X?
because dumb kids want to spend more of their parents' money for such a thing. the 1700 is the informed customer's choice.

Firecucks 52, released today, is the first browser to come with support to WebAssembly.

It's basically the same shit as Java from the 90s, but it's going to be built-in in all browsers. All pages will be served as binary blobs. No adblocker will be able to detect, block, hide or modify any ad in the soon future.

>As you may have noticed there was not much traction in the MPC-HC project in the recent months. We do apologize if you felt bad about that. Unfortunately, we were not able to provide as much development time as MPC-HC deserves. We believe MPC-HC is a very capable player and we want to keep it rocking for much more years to come. Sadly, currently, we don’t really have the manpower to do so. But this does not mean we want to give up here. We consider this release as a new starting point and hopefully, we will slowly but steadily make MPC-HC great again.

>If you care about MPC-HC’s future, please contact us. Report issues that you want to be worked on and most importantly send patches if you can; even small changes help us move forward.

https://mpc-hc.org/2017/03/06/1.7.11-released/

Looks like MPV is killing MPC-HC's marketshare and people are finally losing interest in this shitty Windows-only Directshow project.

More and more people are playing video on Android devices every year and MPC-HC can't be ported to Android so naturally, it has to die. Meanwhile, VLC and MPV already have Android ports and will be playing video for every device on the market, from Android TV boxes to full fledged PCs for years to come.

Can we just let it die, /g/? It's not like any of you can help them code, anyway.

We're too busy helping the MPV project anyway with bug reports and a surge in users.

RIP in peace MPC-HC. You were the bridge from VLC to MPV and now your usefulness is over.

The funniest part is that VLC helped kill MPC-HC. Kek.

Other business laptops are also welcome in /tpg/ (e.g. Dell Latitude/Precision, HP EliteBook/ZBook).

If you're looking for purchase advice, READ THE BUYERS GUIDE FIRST. Then post, stating budget and requirements (e.g. size and performance).
Don't buy anything OTHER THAN T, X AND W/P SERIES if you want the Real ThinkPad Experience™

Recommended models:
T420 - 14", normal size
X220 - 12.5", ultraportable
----
Why ThinkPad? (also applies to other business laptops)
>Used machines are plentiful and cheap.
>Excellent keyboards - tactile feel and quiet.
>Great durability: chassis uses a magnesium rollcage for structural integrity, with high quality plastic body panels.
>Utilitarian design: e.g. indicator LEDs, 7 row keyboard layout on older models.
>Docking stations that easily turns your laptop into a desktop.
>Easy to repair, upgrade and maintain thanks to readily available service manuals for every model. Spare parts are easy and cheap to obtain.
>The best trackpoint (that red thing in the middle of the keyboard). Great for those who type a lot or hate swiping their fingers all over a touchpad.
>Excellent GNU/Linux & *BSD support.

So I attached a rough sketch of what I'm trying to make happen. But running into some technical issues.

I have a custom built rig that is stupid powerful, but also stupid loud even with (liquid cooling)

So what I want to do is transfer the main tower down stair to another room, that is out of ear range and is also cooler.

What I'm thinking is running X2 DVI-D Dual link cables and then running one USB 3.0 Cablel from room a to room b.

This way room A has the two monitors, keyboard and mouse. The K/M would be connected to a HUB and then i just have to run the 3 cables out. So X2 DVI and X1 USB.

The distance is 50ft. Should this work okay, and if not what do i need to get to make this work before I start ordering parts.

Thanks /g/uys

drill a hole or pull conduit and make that ~15'; 50' is way over USB spec

Not possible to drill a whole, under that area is a No go, No way to relocate the monitors either.

I could maybe*** Shrink it to 25ft.

One of the fundamental problems is the surface area of lithium for holding charge By using a thin solid electrolyte you could fit more layers inside of a battery, but you're not addressing the underlying issue.
There is also the ever present volatility of lithium as well.

This isn't a solution.
