I want to buy a duo core for cheap. Should I get a xeon 4572 or a quad 9550? How will it affect a GTX 750 Ti graphics card performance while playing Witcher 3 and Dark Souls 3? or should I use a cheaper GT 730 to not risk bottlenecking?
>dark souls on sub 350$ PC
enjoy your 8 fps
Just get a kaby lake i3, it's cheap as shit and will never bottleneck anything below a 1080
>>59807755
>Witcher 3 and Dark Souls
>on a fucking dual core
>with a video card that cannot run WoW on medium above 24fps

Hans, how many threads is this now?
Do us all a favour and stop shilling your wank site on /g/.
Why is my laptop (X201 running Xubuntu) using so much swap? Every time I run just a few processes together (Thunderbird, Chrome, Palemoon) and have a fewi (~10) tabs open the whole thing slows to a crawl. It's really irritating. Is it some setting, a problem with (Xu)buntu, or do I just need a better computer? I have 4 GB RAM in total and a 4-core Intel Core i5 CPU M 540 @ 2.53GHz, 64-bit architecture.
>>59806885
Can both memory slots be upgraded or is one of the slots soldered? If you can upgrade it, you may be able to max out memory at 8gb for a more stable level of performance.
>>59807387
Ok, so it's not something wrong at the OS level? 10 years ago 4 GB or RAM would have been amazing for me. Nowadays, to achieve the same level of functionality I need 16 GB. What the fuck? What is happening to programs, why are they getting so bloated? Lazy coding? Certainly they're not more "feature-rich", Tbird is pretty much the same, browsers just browse. Maybe it's all the JS behind modern websites. I try to confine myself as much as possible to console-only apps for performance reasons but so it's only browsers eating up my memory.
>>59807387
I'll try the RAM upgrade, thanks.
Is rebecca black tech archive kill?
>>59806542
Yes
I noticed. What happened?
>>59806556
I dunno, I hope it isn't permanent, but the message on the site makes me think that it might not be just some software or hardware failure. It is the best /g/ archive.
My Geforce 660Ti just caught fire.
Computer failures and recommend me a new video card please thread.

A cheap used GTX 970
Or a rx470
A 1060 isn't a bad choice, but it out matched by modern rx480 poo drivers.

But I haven't followed tech in quite a while and Don't know if there is something special out there besides just getting a 1080 ti

Wanting to rebuild old antique radio. Only hardware is the speaker, tuner knob and power switch on the side. Any tips or ideas appreciated.
You should start by clarifying "rebuild." You could try to get it back to its original function either with modern components (no substitutions though) or vintage replicas. So there are two options right there. But you could also try to make it a modern radio inside of the antique "case." Or you could make a completely modern audio device with AM/FM capability and more. Or...
You get the idea. Decide from the outset what you want the end result to be. Then go talk to >>>/diy/.

Appreciate it

There are billions of guides online to building a radio. I'd look for one using tubes.
Anybody here /altcoins/? Read in another thread that Monero was worth mining on a spare server.
I pay $2.50 for an OpenBSD instance every month hosting a website and mumble/file server for personal use. The server idles at 0% processor usage and I'm wondering if there could be a way for me to get a bit more for my money's worth, seeing as I don't pay for electricity.
Are there any *coins worth mining now?
>>59805507
but this is technology related
>>59805494
It's not worth it unless you're running it illegally on a botnet. monero is hard to mine, and the only real CPUs that generate any real profit cost upwards of $600 a month.
What technology did early 2000s kids (refer to the chart) grow up on in their childhood?
Dragon Dildos
You should have paid better attention. Assuming you are an adult.
I'll refer you to Rule 2 of the site in case you aren't

Is there a single Linux distribution that just werks? Seriously. I'm not asking for much here, literally all I want is something that doesn't require hours of forum searching for bug fixes and complicated installations. I don't want to have to boot into Windows 7 every day whenever I want to watch a video because video playback is so shit on Linux. I've tried Xubuntu, BunsenLabs, and Antergos. None of them have given me what I want, which is essentially a system to use a web browser and watch high quality video along with other small tasks. What the fuck am I doing wrong?
Fedora literally just works.
Although literally every distro allows you to use a web browser and watch video... how did xubunutu not fulfill this?
>>59805013
Screen tearing up the ass.
>>59805013
Seconded. Xubuntu was the easiest distro I ever used. Somehow even elementaryOS was more of a pain in the ass.
