When there's a will there's a way. I'm sure something could be figured out.
I'm going to buy a old Apple computer, but I'm torn between two sellers. Which seems like the better option
>Apple IIc with Apple III, all the disks and mouse and stuff included, seller doesn't know if it works : $70
>Macintosh Plus, everything included including manuals, works for sure: $110
Any input appreciated
If you're so uncaring about models, then you're basically buying one as a display piece. That it works would likely irrelevant to you after 10 minutes of playtime anyway.
Take the cheap one.
I'd go for the IIc

4k is just another marketing scam, just like 3d was. You already saw the results of 3D shit.

Hey /g/, My laptop battery refuses to charge so instead of buying a new battery I'm just gonna go ahead and upgrade to a newer laptop.
My needs:
>Gif and WebM making, light video editing, converting
>Streaming live events
>General internet browsing
Non needs:
>Gaming
>Music making
>Broadcasting
This is the laptop I am looking at. https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834132133&ignorebbr=1 Obviously it has more than I need but I want a product that will last and not be a piece of shit in 2 years.
Money isn't really an issue but I'm not looking to spend $2k on some high speed gaming laptop that will never be used to it's full potential. Any ideas or suggestions /g/?

Get a kill-a-watt and measure the actual power draw.
also remember that cheap UPSs and PSUs with active PFC (which is almost all of them, nowadays) don't always play nicely together.

I just use outlook, I'm a lazy ass, but it works fine if you set up the server and port config correctly

Currently worthwhile CPUs:
>G4560 for budget builds (<$500) unless G4620/i3 is discounted over 25%
>i3 aren't worthwhile, unless for highly single threaded tasks. e.g. dwarf fortress & emulators
>i5 aren't worthwhile. No exceptions. Get Ryzen 5, drop down to G4560, or up to i7
>i7-7700k is good but pricey. If over budget, consider 6700k and/or a locked motherboard + cheaper cooler; not chasing 4.8Ghz capable when you weren't gonna overclock - or get Ryzen 5/7
>R7 for compute & multitask workstations
Currently worthwhile GFX cards:
>RX470, RX480 8GB, R9 Fury, 1070, 1080, 1080TI
>1060 is worth considering over a 480 if same/cheaper in your country, or you just play games it's better on for the price. 1050Ti is for mITX builds
>Budget builds: consider integrated graphics over any card weaker than an RX470, unless another's price/performance is better (ie discounted/used)

Consider RAID 0 in place of it if you can get two (cheap) SSD's cheaper for a larger storage size. Pic related Kingston U400
While SSD is fast alone, you will notice a fair difference. Especially in load screens and thumbnail generations should you be an avid shitposter.
Samsung SSD's are fine without RAID 0.
>but if one dies I'll lose all my data
Anon if a SSD dies you're losing data anyways. Yes it is more likely to happen with RAID 0 because of probability. Not the RAID itself.
Note* My 4k reads/writes are low from using a lower stripping size(size of data block set when making the array). 4K is more useful for video editing.
>>59804149
Jesus, advising the average /pcbg/ poster to try RAID. You sadistic bastard.
>>59804149
But why get a Kingston UV400 when the MX300 525gb is cheaper than the Kingston 480GB?
And when it comes to keeping you data, do automated backups.
NVMe can also make a nice scratch disk. They tend to have longer endurance in addition to greater speeds.
Note that the total TBW endurance listed is for the memory itself, but controllers can die faster. 400TBW is still a lot, though.

Is there a reason I shouldn't just use a box fan instead of replacing all the worn out fans in my PC?
I've got 2 case fans and a couple fan that don't spin.
Why would I spend $30 on fans when I can pick up a box fan from good will for < $5?
Haha, silly anon, you're trying to cool down a computer not a box

Is powershell any good? Looking into it worth it?
For general use? No, never, it's a horrifying mess of pain.
As an unbelievably valuable job skill? Yes, 100%
It's okay. It's good for shell scripting on Windows (or rather, Batch is bad, and you should never use it, and PowerShell is the most realistic alternative), and it makes a good testbed for any .NET shit. Otherwise... just use Ruby or Python for your general purpose scripting needs. PowerShell has its quirks.

This has caused my gf to break up with me as a result. I'm pissed and will be buying a note 4 tomorrow
