You got the headphone dongle?
>object oriented programming
Functional programming is really the only acceptable programming paradigm for accurate, secure, and efficient computation. The only coders that lean towards OOP are lazy script kiddies and panjeets that could never grasp the fundamentals of calculus and number theory so they copy paste from stack overflow. Fuck object oriented programming. Object oriented programming is for peasants.
>>59809858
functional programming is like low level programming in 2017, pointless.

Real programmers use butterflies
Imagine, if we were to have pressured for better software at the start of the Bloat Revolution we'd have computers just as capable as we do now, but cost 1/10 to buy and be 1/50th the size.
>>59809750
You're welcome to code a new OS and programs from the ground up in unportable optimized assembly language.
>>59809750
The cost would remain the same.
GPUs would still be fuckhueg.
You have phones and tablets today, which are computers that have gone from thick to very thin in ~6 years.
An hero.
>>59809750
You either have universally usable software written in Java/Javascript and the like (Android Philosophy, "Bloating", Software and Hardware from different providers) or Software specifically tailored to the Hardware (Apple Philosophy - that's why iPhones always have "muh lower nominal specs" than Androids).
Perhaps installing gentoo to your pc is nowadays the best way to optimize Softwate for your hardware, but idk I'm relatively new, too.
If we want to achieve longer usage of smartphone hardware, maybe developing a gentoo for smartphones is the way to go.
Unfortuantely, though, smartphones are all about user interfaces, especially touch interfaces, and that's not really a strength of the open source community
(and because of all the "muh web developers are stupid pajeets" - posts I can understand why frontenders don't like the OS nerds, either)
Hello /g/,
What's a decent cheap laptop?
My budget is 500€
Buy a decent used Thinkpad for 100-200€, and spend the rest on prostitutes.
Buy 490€ phone. Plug in keyboard and mouse.

Lol this
afternoon /g/uys, i've had to set up a windows vm to use stuff like visual studio because that's apparently what they want us to use so what can i do to squeeze the most performance i can out of windows/virtualbox?
really? no one?
>>59809543
>buy a HDD
>install Wangblows on it
Maximum performance and you can even play gaymes on it
>>59809543
throw it away and switch to qemu
where is this windows 10 enterprise torrent everyone talks about?
>>59809530
Wait until 11 for the update to be released officially so you won't deal with the pre release bugs (of which are a lot)
>>59809530
I found the 2015 LTSB x64 iso in a google drive... from a page in some foreign asian language
>>59809530
you can download the official ISO from their site just sign in with your xbox live account or a random hotmail/live
one thing that worries me is it specifically states "after 90 days it will shut down every hour if not activated"
which is different than how normal W10 works which just shows a watermark on the bottom and everything else works.
so not 100% confident installing it rn
Why the fuck do enterprises only want Java developers?
They dont.
playing it safe, current agile best practices include the interchangeable mediocre fulldevops
>>59808806
you spelled c# wrong
and the reason is legacy code... and Java "Just werks(tm)" (in the case of C# - many are indoctrinated by le ASP and ASP.net meme *granted it's like way better now*)
When will internet be truly ubiquitous? As in, you'll have unlimited 4G (or 5G) access to internet wherever you go. Even if you're in the middle of nowhere on a raft in the pacific ocean, in Antarctica, in northern Canada or in the jungle of equatorial Africa, you'll still have perfect access and can stream YouTube videos nonstop in 4K, and it will no longer be reasonable to have data caps or pay for internet at all.
Are we 15 years away from it? Or is it closer to 50 years?
>>59808716
Why the fuck would you want that? Govererment spying....
>>59808716
we had electricity for decades and still there are a lot of places where its not stable or outright nonexistant
what makes you think it will be different for internet?
>>59809037
to be fair internet access is a lot easier to achieve than power, you can just beam it down from satellites

*** Please be civil, notice the "Friendly" in every Friendly GNU/Linux Thread ***
Before asking for help, please check our list of resources.
If you would like to try out GNU/Linux you can do one of the following:
0) Install a GNU/Linux distribution of your choice in a Virtual Machine.
1) Use a live image and to boot directly into the GNU/Linux distribution without installing anything.
2) Dual boot the GNU/Linux distribution of your choice along with Windows or macOS.
3) Go balls deep and replace everything with GNU/Linux.

Thoughts on React native?
I'm trying to decide between Xamarin and this, and I'm leaning toward this just because it's open-source and available on Linux. Although I'd really love to do it in C# since I've been using it for a long time.

You can, and should use a language that compiles to javascript, like typescript or scala.
Your honest opinions, especially for a programming virgin that never coded before.
Java Will work fine for just anything.
>>59808409
Same to say about Python.
If you're thinking about getting a serious programmer start with either C# or Java. They will teach better concepts. If you're just trying brag about programming to your friends go with Python.
>>59808372
Depends on what you want to do.
For web server stuff. I'd say php with a framework like laravel.
Python and java are so big in use cases, you can get lost.
Python is also 'easier' for accomplished coders. But that's not new coders.
>bit of a head melt if you're starting out
>semicolon at end of line like a full stop (java, c, php etc..), is far easier to understand than the invisible format of new lines in python.
Java would give you a better overall knowledge of other coding languages. But you may not need to learn it if you have a specific use case in mind.

>>59808006
Maybe if you have hardware that's 100% supported, which I don't/
Where do i get iso to install it?
I don't have a mac
>>59808006
Why would you use a botnet OS as your host OS? Do you not know that Apple is a part of prism and that the whole FBI debacle was a Jewish trick to get you to buy more iShit? Also Unix is a stupid buzzword and hasn't meant anything in two decades. Fuck off.
>>59808494
There is no ISO. You have to have a Mac to download the the installer which comes as an app which you need to open and pull the base system DMG from. Then you need Disk Utility to format a flash drive for Macs and write the DMG to it. Then you have to get Clover and install everything. Then you have to get drivers. There is no ISO that will let you install it in 10 minutes.
Your other option is going with a distribution from a stinky little Pajeet named Niresh.
You can't win.
