Fucking 90's
Everyone was so fucking goofy
Gil was a nice guy, but not CEO material
I need a motherboard, Intel CPU, and 8gb of ram for around $200. What should I get?
I might need a graphics card too so what should I get for around $200 if I also needed a graphics card?

BLAME GOOGLE.
GOOGLE EMBRACE EXTEND EXTINGUISHED LINUX.
Android and "Chrome OS" and the Google fanboys who support them have done more harm to the growth of NATIVE LINUX than any corporation in existence. Because of Android and "Chrome OS" people stopped developing applications for desktop Linux.
Their argument does something like: Android is Linux or "Chrome OS" is Linux so I'll just develop for them. They think having the Linux kernel makes it Linux.
>>60120505
its obvious google needs to die, but until the data market ceases to exist that's not going to happen any time soon
honestly at this point from my perspective the future lies somewhere in BSD
So I'm the only one here who thinked about this?
That's like putting a picture of an empty garbage can on top of your trash inside your garbage can.

/pcbg/ - PC Building General-- LTT Edition
Post your component list, rate other anons', ask questions.
State the purpose of your PC, your budget, AND YOUR COUNTRY if outside the USA.
If you are asking for improvements, clarify whether you want to lower price or improve specs.
List the games or software you use most often.
Use common sense and put some effort into your queries.

>Pentium G4560 remains the best if your budget is only around $500.
>The Ryzen 1700 is the only R7 worth purchasing.
>i5 edges out R5 for gaming, R5 wins in apps.
>i3 are no longer worth getting with ZERO exceptions. The budget choice is the G4560. Otherwise get an i5/r5.
>Whoever saying locked i5s were useless were hedging on great R5 performance... oh well.
>The R5 1600 is the best all around chip for the price, it's a better choice than an R7 for gaming.
>RX 500 series around 10% better than 400s
>for budget builds, consider a mATX setup for case/mobo savings
>RX 550 not worth it over 460 for esports builds
There's been a huge upswing in disinformation in these threads, and in the community in general. At the end of the day, YOU are the one who loses if you take bad advice.

should I get an 8 gb RX 580 or a 4 gb RX 580, all I play is CSGO and LOL but I want it to last a long time, also I'm on a tight budget ($750)

Currently worthwhile CPUs:
>G4560 for budget builds (<$500) unless G4620/i3-7100 is heavily discounted
>i3 are only worthwhile for dwarf fortress & single-purpose emulator boxes
>i5 aren't worthwhile. Get Ryzen 5, drop down to G4560, or up to R7/i7
>R5 1400 is not worthwhile unless discounted
>i7-7700k is good but bad value. If over budget, an R5 is probably as good or better for you
>R7/Xeon for compute/multitask/mixed use
Currently worthwhile GFX cards:
>RX570, RX480(if cheap & not blower), RX580, 1080, 1080TI
>RX570 is usually all you need for 1080p@60hz
>RX550 & RX560 are worth considering if you just need 6 monitor support for cheap and/or play low end shit
>1060 & 1070 are worth considering if you already have a Gsync monitor. 1050Ti is for mITX builds or if on sale at ~$100
>Nvidia GPU + Ryzen has issues in many games atm
>Budget builds: consider integrated graphics over a card weaker than RX560
>May for Vega
General:
>No brand/model loyalty. Parametric filters on pcpartpicker can help
>Consider larger SSD-only for what you budget SSD+HDD combined. Add HDD later once needed
>NVMe aren't for faster OS boot. They're primarily for productivity as a scratch disk
>mATX can often save cost as the board+case is usually cheaper
>1 DIMM is significantly slower than 2 DIMMs

you need at last rx580/480 or 1060 for confort
you can happily play in 1080p on 470/570 but its far from

RAII in C
someone created standard text in support of getting rid of net neutrality, and that link is being flooded with it. Pages and pages of the following response:
I was outraged by the Obama/Wheeler FCC's decision to reclassify the Internet as a regulated "public utility" under a Depression-era law written for the old Ma Bell telephone monopoly. Government utility regulation of the Internet risks devastating private investment, undermining competition, and stalling innovation. It also puts consumers at serious risk of being hit with a new "broadband tax" to cover the lack of private sector investment due to these regulations. The liberal extremist groups that ginned up fake support for reclassification include the group Free Press, which was cited 62 times in the Title II order. Free Press was founded by ultraliberal college professor Robert McChesney who has admitted: "At the moment, the battle over network neutrality is not to completely eliminate the telephone and cable companies. We are not at that point yet. But the ultimate goal is to get rid of the media capitalists in the phone and cable companies and to divest them from control." Clearly, these extremists groups are openly hostile to America's free-market economy. The Trump/Pai FCC is right to revisit this issue. I urge you to stand up to the radical extremists who took over the FCC under Obama and protect our free-market Internet by rescinding the Title II order.
An Activist group is already on the hunt. They called 313 of the comments. Not ONE of those 313 said they did it. More then half of the people contacted even knew what Net Neutrality even was. The best though was 5 were DECEASED!

WOW! That is UNREAL!
why the fuck is it so difficult to create windows install media from linux, but it's piss easy to create linux install media from windows? i shouldn't have to compile winusb just to do this.
>not installing windows 10 into a virtual machine on linux and using usb passthrough to create a bootable usb drive with the official software

just extract the .iso?
Where exactly is it hard to create a bootable media (usb drive) under linux?
> Download ISO file
> dd if=windows.iso of=/dev/sdb

Where exactly is this harder than under windows?

Nvidia and AMD have that Virtual Resolution thing in their drivers. So what maximum resolution can I get and for what purpose other than gayms?
>>60119345
To make everything blurry
No real purpose yet.
Also, for what its worth, I have a 4k monitor because I got it on sale, but run it in 1440p because it raises my idle temps in 4k and I hate constantly hearing my fans.
Hmmm, I have an 480 and FHD and the maximum I can set for desktop is 4k. Why can't I set 8k? I think this card does support 8k. Yeah, this looks blurry as hell.
