What are some things that should be avoided by anyone who cares about their grocery budget? Pic related;
>$3 for 12.5 ounce can
>almost half full of water
>nearly $7 per pound of actual meat
>>9085101
Not to mention it tastes like crap and has the texture of Play-Doh.
Makes you wonder why canned tuna manages to be pretty cheap compared to frozen.
>>9085178
Canned tuna doesn't need to be 1 chunk of meat
It's essentially the scraps from the good parts
>>9085252
So that's why canned tuna tastes like cat food.
So apparently these whipped cream things can kill you wtf? So,e French lady died because it exploded onto her chest.
Was she doing whippets?
>>9084568
Literally any pressurized container can kill you. Desk chair hydraulics, soda cans, bug spray.
It's a infinitesimal chance, but all of these can go haywire given the right circumstances, and if you're close enough, you will die

This, 100%.

this is the right way to cook bacon. though i wouldn't waste that much brown sugar. just sprinkle some on top (along with some black pepper) and again when you flip them midway through
How do you guys make your pork ribs? I've looked at a few different recipes, but they all seem to contradictory. I'm planning on making them tomorrow, but need a bit of guidance.
>>9081998
Grill or oven?
I usually make mine in the oven because I can't have a grill in my small apartment.
What I do is remove the membrane in the back then put a dry rub on and wrap it in plastic for a few hours but you don't have to.
Then I cover it with barbecue sauce, homemade preferably then I wrap it in foil and cook it low and slow at 200 degrees f for about 4 hours. Basting with sauce every 15-20 minutes or so. Then at the last 30 minutes remove the foil and baste again then put it back uncovered at higher heat. I usually do about 350 degrees f. This will caramelize the sugars and make it delicious.
Hope this helped.

>but they all seem to contradictory.
News Flash! There's more than one way to cook ribs.
My preferred method is to smoke them for about 2.5 hours at about 250F, then move them over direct heat to finish them.
If you are stuck using the oven: wrap the ribs tightly in foil then bake for about 2.5 hours at 250F. Then remove the foil, sauce the ribs, and finish under the broiler.
GOOOOO VEEEGAN!!!!!
Choose one. And may God have mercy on your soul.

>being so inept and retarded you eat freeze dried and canned formula foods.
Gross.
>>9081952
>kraft mac
basically an excuse to eat butter
>Chef Boyardee
Best one to eat long term, pricier though amd requires microwave
>Ramen
Best all-around, best price point, least preparation
>>9081952
You can get much better tasting Ramen at an Asian market than that Maruchan shit. It's about $1.50, which is the same price as the chef Boyardee at Publix. I like to get a good spicy ramen bowl, sautee some chicken with a little black bean sauce, and then mix it with the ramen. Not particularly healthy, but it is tasty.
Heatwave and rolling blackouts edition.
104F today, and only one of our AC units is working. A couple guys came in right during our first big push to try to figure out what was wrong, and kept casually walking onto the line and trying to talk to us. In the end their best guess was that the hood fan is sucking in hot air and the AC units aren't able to keep up, which makes no sense.
During our second rush we started experiencing blackouts, with the longest one lasting probably 20 minutes, right when we had a full board and were slammed, and running out of food (it was unusually busy for a Wednesday night). So we pulled out our phones and continued cooking using their flashlights.
Oh, and our nighttime dishwasher called in sometime earlier in the day saying that she had to leave the state and was quitting. And all the servers kept fucking up and having problems with the POS.
Wasn't a fun day. Getting lit now.
Just started at a beer garden since I have been out of work for months, luckily it is inside a mall so I don't have to worry about blackouts as much (work is work).
>be me
>used to working in cocktail bars
>relatively healthty aside so avoid sugary sodas
>ask bartender for a few dashes of Ango
>'ummmm what is that anon?'
>'sorry, Angostura bitters.'
>'but isn't that like, alcohol?'
>thought he was joking until he examines the bottle for two minutes as serious as could be
>'yeah if you aren't comfy with that I'm not gonna argue, but you know a 10 year old can buy that at any grocery store right? you can argue that idea with vanilla extract'
>bartender looks at me like I'm a total asshole
>drop it since I'm new and need the cash
At least I get to taste different beers after work. Found some Hendrick's inspired beer that is refreshing as hell.
>>9080075
What were you trying to add bitters to? Soda water?
I talk about how I homebrew, and am into local craft beer, but I keep my al/ck/ level hidden compared to all the servers who come in talking about how hungover they are from having gone out clubbing the night before.
>tfw my chef made an offhanded comment about how I'm always "shaky" the other day
The last thread died. Maybe this one will survive.
Got around to trying pic related tonight and it's incredible. Hazy, light touch of bitterness followed by a rush of tropical fruit. An all around great dipa. Reminds me of a less abrasive, surly abrasive. Anyone in Minnesota should check this place out or try to find a 4 pack.
What's /ck/ drinking tonight?
>>9078509
PBR because I'm not a punk bitch like you.
Nordeast because I like real beer, not faggy beer like that. Anyone in Minnesota who doesn't drink Nordeast has shit taste in beer.
But really, I used to think craft beer was neat, but now there are 5000 beers to pick from and you need to have your special snowflake beer brewed at the bottom of a lake with only fresh Algerian poppies or something like that. And the only people I ever see drink that stuff are hipster numales. Anyone I know that actually works for a living drinks regular beer.
>>9078533
I prefer premium. There are way too many beers now though. It's pretty overwhelming. If I hadn't tried this stuff out before I wouldn't have bothered with it.
Welcome to the /ck/ challenge: Monthly edition: June Thread 2!
****
The theme for this month is Berries In A Savory Context
If you can harvest your own berries, feel free to do so and show off.
****
Dishes are judged on the following criteria, so keep that in mind when planning and making and plating:
-Presentation: The appearance of items on the plate; plating skills
-Originality: Creativity in composing the dish
-Appeal: How appetizing the food looks/whether or not the dish appeals to your personal taste as a voter
-Challenge Goals: How closely the entry followed the challenge goal(s)
The distinction between Presentation and Appeal: If someone submits an artfully arranged but burnt steak as an entry, it may score high in Presentation but low in appeal.

Has anyone on cook ever raped someone who was cooking food? I mean you can grab a big knife and threaten them with that, or push their face into a pan of hot oil while you sodomise them from behind.
Tell us your stories.
I personally have not but now that I'm thinking about it my dicks getting hard which is bad because I'm having a poo and now my dicks touching the bowl
What state has the best cuisine? I love my Texmex , but I'll fuck with a Chicago hot dog or a deep dish whenever I can.
>>9074025
probably CA or NY
anywhere where a bunch of people migrate too that will then have a huge collection of food from across the states in addition to the fusion foods that result from all of those cuisines being in relatively close proximity.
>>9074025
As much as I hate that shithole, NY easily.
Tons of immigrants. Plus many high-end places.
I would definitely say Illinois because Chicago isnt a state. Fifteen years ago it was NY but now they've just been resting on their laurels.

how do you make your hot dogs, /ck/? what is the definite right way?
eet hot dog
>>9088722
make dog hot
put stuff u like on hot dog

>>9088722
>what is the definite right way?
Unpopular Opinion: There is no such thing in cooking. There are plenty of wrong ways, to be sure, but there's no one definite right way to make any dish. At the very best, there are some dishes with only 2 or 3 right ways to make it. For most dishes though, there are 5 to 7 right ways to make it. Hot dogs in particular have something like 40 to 50 right ways to make them.

no matter how many memesters breathlessly proclaim it to be the next big thing it never will be because it sucks and its apparent "under the radar status" is just the fact that it's rightfully ignored by those with taste
