I think it's because brandy/fruit brandy is extra comfy because it has more of a warming sensation than grain based spirits.

If you ever want to switch things up you should try some Calvados if you haven't already.

Use about 2 tsp of oil, I chose grapeseed oil, over medium heat gently sautee the onions. I like to get mine just when they start to brown on the edges.

Not really worthwhile in my opinion. If you can even find a decent one that's not overripe in the States, lug the heavy spiky thing home, and are skilled at disassembling these motherfuckers, then sure, I guess it's an 'ok' experience, but it's too much trouble for something I don't even like all that much.
