I backed it at the Kickstarter and have been waiting like everyone else.

A friend got me E:D and all it does is make me want to play the dogfight arcade mode, its just straight up better than the combat in ED.

Basically my deciding point to internally give up on the game depends on the next big update when they say they're adding in the mining profession to play around with. If they can't deliver on that, I'm done.

There's not much to say? It's a game in a very limited way. I enjoy the flight and the dogfighting can be cool. But I'm biased and loved Wing Commander/Tie Fighter.

What else there is when I last played: FPS combat and a few quests were not interesting. There might be a good FPS in there (deep in there), but that's not what I wanted.

They need to start showing something. Anything. In the actual client. Or some proof that Squadron 42, the single player game, isn't a stillborn effort due to this far too large effort.

In short: they went WAY too wide. Everyone saw it. I should have seen it. Regret, and hopefully some wisdom is what I come away with.

I'm not refunding. If it pays off, I want in.

I'm not sure what they can skip at this point and not drag down their other planned content. Multiplayer needs a bunch of shit to work or it will fall apart. Most of the work is going into the building blocks. The only conceivable thing they could release early is the single player. Even that is going to need to rely on a lot of things that aren't there yet.

They would have been almost done cranking out locations right now if they didn't expand the scope to seamless procedural planets. Originally they were just going to be masked loading for landing zones and call it a day.

It's already implemented. The landing zones are now actually apart of a real planetary object you can fly or land almost anywhere on ,weather willing. The exceptions are some larger industrial planets where you can only come in at certain vectors or get shot down.

They were planning on doing this as expansion content but they pushed the timetable because of german wizards. They ate up Crytek's talent and they sort of had it working a few months. It's one hell of a scope expansion though.

Loading screens and instances. Each time you warp to a new area, the game loads that section and that section only. Mind you these segments are really huge, like the entire skyrim land mass huge. You can fly around, do quests, fight etc. If you fly out of the boundary, you hit an invisible wall of endless space and since your fuel is limited, you can't traverse it. So you can't just fly from one segment to another, you have to warp.

Makes sense thematically, gameplay wise and lore wise. It's actually ingenious. There's no super tall mountain you can't jump over or auto turn around or instant death or invisible walls, in the literal sense.

Anyone that says no man's sky is a good game, has no idea what a good space game is. Only thing No Man's Sky did decently on was the procedural generated planets, for about a handful of hours.

Their vehicles controlled like shit, their planetary interaction controlled like Minecraft's, all enemies were dumber than rocks, their guns were lame and basic, you couldn't swim, there were no physics. Just stop typing and go reflect on your life. You know what, just go play some real space games. Anything made in the last 15years is better. Hell, even the Rogue Squadron series on Gamecube is much better.
