What does tg think of my yellow?

I usually dont hand paint light colors

The one on the right not left
>>

Right is better, but the highlights are too gross.

I like yellows that use s yellow orange as base. Flat yellow never looks good to me imo

WIP of my stonehorn, calling the horns done for now although I was toying with glossing them.

Going to shoot for raw pink skin around the eyes.

What do you guys think?

>>
>>52386475

Looks pretty solid but you need to soften up those pure white highlights a bit.
>>
>>52386475
Nice and smooth, although I think the white edges are a bit stark.

Remove the mold lines on the left one.

Is this silver just boltgun, black wash, mithril highlight? Because im trying that and mine is very light still. I want the darker, grungier silver
>>
>>52386685
if i had to guess they put down

black
leadbelcher
and highlighted with rufang steel

the technique they used to shade it though is why yours will not look the same, its complex and very time consuming.
>>
>>52386667
If you also used the pinkish skin tone somewhere else (perhaps on the tail and/or where the hooves meet the feet?) it would help to tie it in.

Try a darker base metal? I've had decent results with Reaper's 'Shadowed Steel.' Also, multiple layers of wash.

Tore off the old plasma pistol arm and used a different pose, and greenstuffed some gear-toothy bullshit on the legs. Should I add some rivets or studs to them?
>>
>>52386731
I hear ya it would have no other tie ins with the rest of the model except maybe the ogors skin. But I have decided how healthy I want him to look yet.

Would you add anything to the base besides snow and flocking (already planned for those)

Yeah, trying to sculpt muscular contour is tough on such a small scale, and it keeps coming out rough for me. I'll probably just cheat and see what other cavalry minis do to resolve it.

water I know smooths it out, just be gentle with it. paint will probably fix those crimes as well

I've got liquid greenstuff as well, which seems to be an okay gap-filler before paint. Not sure how it performs over flat surfaces, though I've heard it can add a texture which I'm not a huge fan of since I want those areas smooth.

Asked in 40kg figured someone with some experience in dreadknight conversions might post here. I came across the new custodes contemptor dread and was wondering if anyone knew how tall is was. Was thinking about using it as a dreadknight stand in if the dimensions are similar. Cant stand the dk and im a bit worried about making a pile of greenstuff and plastic goop trying to fix it.
>>
>>52388666
Little thing I did to help me sculpt muscular contours was I picked up a muscle anatomy book and sculpted my model from his muscular structure up to the skin. Dunno if it'll come of use to you later on going forward with your sculptures, but my autistic ass found it useful to do so. Ended up with a realistic muscular structure and a better understanding of posture.

I might suggest cutting away enough of the legs to try your hand at making mini muscular structures.

What paints did forgeworld use for their shiny reds on their thousand sons? I've been using a copper and gold enamel spray to give a lustrous gold sheen before several light coats of tamiya clear red sprayed over, and the shine is coming through, but NOTHING as deep as forgeworld's. Did they use some high gloss enamel candy red or something?

How should I go about sealing these models so the metallic armor stays lustrous and shiny, but doesn't make the whole model look like it was dunked in slime?
>>
>>52390199

Tamiya Clear Red on top of Leadbelcher.

So TG, many, many years ago when I was a boy my friends and I all used to sit in our school classroom looking at old copies of white dwarf. We where mesmerised, it just looked so cool and wonderfully painted.

After begging our parents to buy Warhammer we then proceeded to completely fuck up any attempt at painting them with a mixture of impatience and youthful incompetence.

We played together until we left for senior school at 13 and all got sent to different boarding schools, but we remained in touch and remain close close friends to this day. As we got older Warhammer and gaming seemed uncool. There were girls and listening to music and other shit, and so our collections sat gathering dust in the back of a cupboard at our parents home.

Many years later, we all slowly started playing 40k again, or rather I did and some mates joined me who had never quite let the flame die. An old friend gave me a heavy toolbox filled with old metal imperial guard (and other things).

His paint jobs were legendary for being terrible (even at 11) - Pic related is how they start out.

HUH?!?

It's all metal so you can just take the bases off and dunk them in acetone to strip paint and start them up again.

You could probably use the IG models for an inquisitor and retinue for little games of Kill Team which is a simple low point skirmish game.

The apothecary and librarian are still decent models. Rebase them on the new 32 mm bases.

Apologies for the massive file size, anyhoo after soaking this pile of stuff in dettol for a month. 11 year olds really have no idea how to thin their paints! The following wonders have been found.

x18 steel legionaires (one not in pic)
x13 Original Cadians, these guys are so old that Tau were just a myth, Custodians wore no shirts and there was such a thing as a squa....

Some of the Last chancres
Some of Gaunts ghosts

So, after many many years of inactive service they will all be returning with a nice new paint job in service to the emperor! The world may have changed for these guardsmen, but they are ready to stick a lead boot up the arse of the first Xeno they see.
>>
>>52391160
Yeah, stripping them, by bathing them in simple green/detol.

Yeah anon, dettol (for bongs) or Simple green (for Yanks) should sort you out, soak for a weak and then scrub with a toothbrush. Wear crap clothes and rubber gloves, the stuff stinks and is not good for the skin. Metal models are easier to strip than plastic.

Here is a closeup of the ghosts, some are a bit damaged, but I think that was inevitable really, others a missing or else in another toolbox (my friend has assured me there is another one filled with Lizardmen and they probs ended up in there.

Finished a Stealthsuit and drone to see how I'll paint the rest of their kind. Darkened the emerald green ever so slightly for the stealthsuits so it's more subtle and the highlights more pronounced.

Next is a Pathfinder, because I want to test out if I should give them a camo pattern. They are forward scouts so I want to give slight variations of the scheme to each different "role" in the army. Thought of doing them like the FWs but with dark brown streaks across the armour, like Woodland face/camo. Just afraid they might look too dirty or would stick out more/be too distant in aesthetic when viewed as an army.

Thoughts, advice?

I fear my airbrush has problem functionning properly because it's a cheap one, and not because of the paints.

Ice: base ceramite white. Glaze with guilliman blue until strong color is achieved. All over light wash of druchii violet. Touch up with guilliman glaze. Drybrush wrack white. Drybrush bahharoth blue (very light, hitting the edges and swirling along the flat areas). RE highlight with wrack white.

Fur: base mechanicus standard. Heavy drybrush administratum grey. Super light drybrush of thunderhawk blue. Hit just the tips with drybrush of wrack white.

That shit is toxic, wear mask, glasses and gloves, and do it in a well ventilated area.

You'll need to scrub the models a bit using an old toothbrush or something.

After that wash them well with soapy water.

Also, some places have special laws regarding the disposal of these chemicals, try not to commit a crime.

Other than that, it's super effective, and it does not damage metal or plastic at all. Not sure about resin, never tried it.

I think he meant Brian May and Freddie Mercury, but c'mon... what about Sir Ian McKellen? You know, Gandalf?

>In 2003, during an appearance on Have I Got News For You, McKellen claimed when he visited Michael Howard, then Environment Secretary (responsible for local government), in 1988 to lobby against Section 28, Howard refused to change his position but did ask him to leave an autograph for his children. McKellen agreed, but wrote, "Fuck off, I'm gay." McKellen described Howard's junior ministers, Conservatives David Wilshire and Dame Jill Knight, who were the architects of Section 28, as the 'ugly sisters' of a political pantomime.

If you're in the UK, this is the future of stripping plastics and metals. Used it on ancient white plastic, modern grey plastic, lead and pewter. Works fast, bloats the paint off so there's little scrubbing compared, and unlike dettol it's water soluble so it won't create an unshiftable goop if the two accidentally meet between the soap.

Just wear gloves and don't inhale too much of the fumes, like dettol really.

Chances are if you go this route, your surface will look chalky. If you do it the other way around (drybrush with the later colour first, *then* wash with our saint's blood), then that will darken the drybrushed areas, too; might that be the effect you're looking to achieve?

Glad to help, I'll try to be as complete as I can because especially with stripping I hate forum posts with people being hazy or making presumptions.

These are old Space Crusade Scouts that spent a night in the stuff, wish I had pictures of them previously. They were horrific, several layers of paint and enamel paints in parts. Fairy Power Spray was stripping the paint off the large flat surfaces, but the many recesses where still bad. I actually considered throwing them in the bin. Some unrelated pieces from 90s metal torso Blood Angels had a slight red tint afterwards but were smooth.

>How fast does it work?
Within minutes you will see the white viscous liquid has spots of colour in it where the paint has started dissolving, I'd say after two hours you could give them a scrub with a firm toothbrush and maybe put them back in if it hasn't shifted 100%.

I've never left plastics in for more than two or three days though, so I can't guarantee you can leave stuff in it for weeks like Dettol.

>Does it smell worse than dettol?
No but much like Dettol I wouldn't huff too much.

>Do the miniatures smell of it after cleaning like when they're stripped with dettol?

No it doesn't permeate clothes or miniatures like Dettol.

>Does it fuck up your hands unless you wear gloves (the skin on my hands is fucked to all hell, huge cracks and peeling skin so I have to be careful when stripping things)?

Yes, I'd certainly recommend wearing Marigolds then. I get by with latex gloves I bin every session.
>>
>>52397249

And like I say, big plus over Dettol is how the stuff seems soluble, so you can mix it with soapy or plain tap water whilst scrubbing and it won't turn into an awful mess.

Ha...hahaha... hahahahaa

Kingdomdeath.com

It's a GIGANTIC fucking board game that plays like a mix between animal crossing, dark souls, and monster hunter. Of note to /wip/ people they have gorgeous fucking minis, some of the absolute best out there. You can go to the 1.5 kickstarter to see most of the (game) minis.
>>
>>52398695
Kingdom Death is a line of Nightmare Horror miniatures (and associated humans) with an interesting setting to draw from.
It also has quite a few sexy pinups available (which are often inspired by the monsters and humans from the regular range).

The majority of its popularity and fame has come from the 2 highly successful kickstarters the company has run for their game Kingdom Death: Monster.

The downside is that the nature of their miniature production means that availability of many of their models is a bit of an issue.
Production runs are small and tend to sell out in a matter of hours.

Magnus is a model that scales exponentially with good support. Thanks to Siphon Magic and his ML5, you are essentially guaranteed 10+ extra WCs for his casting completely free provided your main force has the dice. My 2K force carries 19 and most of the time that's enough to wreck face in the psychic phase.

>>52398589
The technique I'm using there is a mix of glazing and feathering. A tip I can give you for skins is: use a bit of red in the shadows. Red is the color of blood, the color of life. Other than that the most important is to place the shadows and lights correctly. Imagine the basic volumes of the figure (for example, that leg are two cylinders) and imagine they are being lit from above. Then paint the shadows that would naturally form.

Yea light placement is currently my big hiccup in getting better, guess it's time to crack open some articles on light theory. Thank you for the tips! I've been using a purple+skintone for my shadows that I picked up from a tutorial recently. It can work out some times and certainly makes for a striking look.

I think the dreamers they're talking about might be the saviors that I think came out around the first KS?
>>
>>52399364
I feel his usefulness as a nigh-untouchable magic discoball outclasses his melee capabilities, much like the Daemon Prince to a much smaller scale but yes, he can definitely throw down and slap your shit.

Goddamnit I wish Ahriman got better with this update. Yeah he can take a disc now and can cast the same witchfire 3 times per turn... but 260 with a disc and still no familiar? Negro please.

Anyone have any good tips on painting the lights on a bike/rhino?

I've checked warhammer tv, and googled around a bit but I can't find anything I like. Either they go way overboard with OSL which makes half the vehicle look like it is in the dark, and the rest like it isn't, or the lights are purely flat.

Yes. There was Wraith, and also Sabbat ("Blood For The Blood God" came on a flexi-disk in White Dwarf magazine! - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D8mEOiI4pjs), and another band called "Crash & Burn". I'm not sure how much Earache records was tethered to them, as that's the label Bolt Thrower appeared on.

>I once had to operate on an RT Land Raider.

My RT Land Raider took to the field for the first time in over a decade last weekend. We squeaked out a Pyrrhic victory with an array of tanks (with some help from Dark Panzees and Tau) versus two Knights and a Stormlord Super-Heavy Tank.

I'm not terribly proud of the 25-year-old paint job (and it doesn't have an assault ramp!), but I am reticent to strip it for nostalgia reasons.

Barrel heat glow is a beautiful effect. I started putting it on most of my stuff, and now I have a dozen people at the gamestore all begging me to apply the effect to their stuffs. I'm not even that good at it, but having more models to practice glow effects on isn't a bad idea.

I recently discovered that OSL doesn't work out that well on metalic models, hence my tartaros sergeant that looks fucked even though the technique was applied flawlessly. I'm pretty much now limiting glow effects only to the area that should be glowing with my dudes, since anything more looks like shit on the silver armour.

assuming your the anon that posts the imperial fists that are just washes, you need to work on your color composition

I appreciate what you are doing, and you bases are fantastic and well done, but your actual model needs some work

if you are playing imperial fists your yellow needs to be either pale yellow or orangish yellow, your current yellow is like this brownish yellow that makes the model look a bit flat.

As for this model, im not sure if you are done with the black bits, but they look super weird compared to the rest of the model

not saying any of this to be a dick, i just think you have a lot of potential from what ive seen you post and you are not using it by trying to batch paint quickly.

if he is gonna use the bases he is using, then he is going to have to use a more vibrant yellow, because right now the model is just being drowned out by the base.

Yea. That seems reasonable. I'm still not sure HOW I want to paint them, yet. Pic related is a test I did using gesso for the first time, though they only had white, so I mixed it with black to get they gray on that base.

It's hard to tell, but the armor is Reaper forest green. I was thinking like a Cult of Strife type of color scheme, with a really dark green base since they remind me of my old wood elves a bit.

However, I have no idea how to the base, I'm fairly shit at them to be honest. Even using texture paint, it came up flat. I think it was astrogranite.

Just finished up this Pathfinder. They're forward scouts so wanted to give them a camo version of the army scheme. I'm unsure if it's good enough though. On one hand, I love the idea of camo, on the other... I might have fucked it up. Perhaps not enough black streaks? Grey highlights too thick?

i think what is throwing it off is the grey sreaks in the camo, also i would cover both sides of the green streaks with black and get rid of the grey.

Stay mad bro, why dont you try posting your own shit instead of throwing shitfits and screaming samefag when multiple people call you out for being a retard?

I'm unsure about getting rid of the grey completely, would just look weird I think but I do agree it needs less grey.

What do you mean cover both sides of the green streaks? As in make it green and black only? Included another picture.

/tg/ needs IDs because you're getting mad at someones yellow?

Top fucking kek
>>
>>52401545
what i really think is that the grey is just too bright

the point of camo is to blend in, but the grey bits make it stand out.

keep the grey, but i really think it needs to be darker to achieve the effect you are looking for.

>Why do you keep posting this?

For two reasons: one, it provides a visual answer to the specific question being asked in a thread that is rarely in danger of reaching its image limit, and two, the other models I've (recently) based with Rustoleum (pic related) are not anywhere near finished yet.

>>52401287
>How many coats of yellow did that base take?

It wasn't as bad as you might think. I have a dropper bottom of Reaper's "Pure White" (09039), and after I primed the model black, white was the first colour to go on over the parts I wanted to (eventually) be yellow. You can see between the third and fourth pictures that I changed my mind and made the leg greaves yellow instead of blue.

After that, I followed a tutorial I found for Imperial Fists which was Averland Sunset -->. Yriel Yellow --> Ushabti Bone.

How about this then? I thinned the grey highlights with black.
>>
>>52401709
much much better, now the grey doesnt pop off the model so strongly as it did before and blends into the rest of the colors

looks like camo to me
>>
>>52401682
Nice try dude, but two of those are mine.
Maybe next time

Sweet, thank you! I'm kinda proud of it, honestly. I didn't think I could pull it off and spent the entire time thinking "this is just going to look dirty as fuck" but when it's done, it works!

Need some help guys. what citadel paints do I need to paint this color scheme?

>>
>>52401806
I would work on brightening the mustard color, and doing some more work on the lenses. Traditional blue would pop well due to your pallet.

I want to go with an easy way to paint the models, like base, wash, drybrush. 1,2,3 style painting. thank you for your help.

>>52401875
I've seen it probably 20 or more times over the last year. I get that you're proud of it anon, but this is WIP, not Work finished years ago.
>>
>>52386685
Wash it all over with thinned down black. Not Nuln Oil, that will pull into the recesses, actual black paint, thinned significantly, water should do, but you might want to use Lahmian Medium for a more consistent glaze.
>>
>>52401945
I don't get this. Watery black paint will pool just the same as nuln oil or any wash..

Ayyy I use that same tutorial, sans the pure white. It's probably a good idea to conserve the averland, anyhow. Do you paint a black base on the blue parts as well?

Not bait. This nigga had the right idea. Used flow aid to dilute the paint a bit, and it worked like an ink
>>
>>52403607
it looks like you applied a wash to it.

who is you?
>>
>>52403622
Im the question op nigga. The pic is kinda washed out but it darkened the fuck out of the metal
>>
>>52403648
because you applied a thin wash to it
>>
>>52403686
Are you a fucking retard? The wash sucks into the recesses and leaves the flat surfaces untocuhed. this covers all surfaces
>>
>>52403718
>Are you a fucking retard? The wash sucks into the recesses and leaves the flat surfaces untocuhed. this covers all surfaces

wrong, you sound like the type of guy not to clean his model after a wash

dude i am looking at this fucking leg and its not only in the recesses but all over the fucking model how in the world is this not just a fucking wash

>thinned down black to consistency of water
>mixed with medium to improve flow
>mfw you dont think this is just a thin wash

i know you are baiting me but fuck you triggered me with this shit, heres a (you)
