You can only go up, down and side to side. There is no other way. To talk about dimensions greater than the 3rd is simply erroneous.

Yes and you can also apparently have the set of all natural numbers, that doesn't mean it exists, brainlet.

Hello /sci/ question to the physicists, if you were to take an object and let it get pulled toward a black hole would it gain enough velocity to experience a mass increase as viewed by an outside observer?

If this occurs why do we not observe sudden increases in gravitational fields near blackholes?

Please explain where my understanding is incorrect.

Thanks

>mass increase

"""Relativistic mass"""" was possibility the worst concept introduced in physics, even Einstein didn't like it. Look at it like this, we have standard momentum in Newtonian physics [math] \vec { P } = m \vec { v } [/math] Now if we want to "upgrade" to special relitivity we can just attach a Lorentz factor on to that: [math] \vec { P } = \gamma m \vec { v } [/math] but look we could attach the [math] \gamma [/math] to either the mass (and have mass transform between frames) or attach it to the velocity (and have that transform between frames). For whatever reason some physicists in the past decided to Lorentz transform mass, which leads to a lot of undesirable consequences. The standard view today is that objects have one mass, the invariant mass, and that's the square of the 4-momentum.

Wrong.

I thought it'd be cool to bring back the daily math challenge threads. We'll start off with something easy today.

How many ways can n distinguishable balls be painted with white, black, red, and blue if an even number of balls must be painted white?

There are two possible answers, one is in summation notation and the other is not. They're the same (obviously) and for this problem both are ok.

Is 0 an even number in this case?
>>
>>8665766
Yes
>>
>>8665746
Not much of a mathematician here, but could not you pick a set comprised of an endless number of balls, paint two of them white and just swap the colors around for the others, thus making an infinite number of color combinations for an infinite number of balls?

He said it would take 10 years for an undergrad to understand his theory.
Something like that.

Hi /Sci/, I'm a vet student - yes, yes, not a 'real' science like maths, fine- but I'm hoping you might be able to give me some help.

I have been offered a paid four month project at my University next summer, with the view of hopefully getting the results published in a paper. I've been offered my choice of two titles- both sound interesting- but I was curious if any labrats on here would have any more insight into lab techniques/if either of them sound any better than the other. I've not put exact species r.e studying so not to identify my professor.

(Whilst I have lab experience, it's limited to a few practicals- I have undertaken all the techniques a handful of time from both projects below. I'm more used to doing rectal exams of a cow than using a pipette to give you a better idea of where I am.)

1: Using RT-PCR on a protozoan parasite to confirm infection genes - will also include some assays.
2: Studying an amoebae to test resilience in adaptation to stress- using a range of colorimetric and imaging assays.

As I said- both sound fairly good to me, but I've not actually done very much lab work before, so was hoping to get a few more experienced peoples opinions! Ta!

>>

Oh, I love my degree dearly, but I also know there are quite a few people on this board who classify medicine etc as a applied science as oppose to a 'pure' science like maths.

Here, have an calf I treated for a sub-mandibular abscess this summer. If vet is your dream then go for it!

Uhh, have you heard of /an/?

They might help you there, there's a bunch of biologyfags and related shit there, I'm REALLY sure they will help a fellow vet.

Board's more slow than here but try posting there, since you will get meme'd on here.

I've never said that before, but you're coming from quite the privileged position if you're mad about someone getting a high end internship instead of you

specify "Asian"
There's almost zero advantage for being an East Asian and Southeast Asians from a well represented countries.
If she got google internship due to good connections, then that just means that you are not as smart as that Asian fat girl. I mean, you are posting on Japanese meme forum.

I am in need of assistance. I have an idea of how an organism can breath in nitrogen as a gas and then breath out oxygen. The repository system takes in different gases but the rest is like a human body.
Can someone please help on how the biology works with these claims?

The repository system takes in books not gases.

Oh shit. I meant respiratory system.
We as humans breath in oxygen and breath out carbon dioxide. I want see theoretically how an orgamism (take a human for example) to breath in nitrogen as a gas and breath out oxygen. Is it possible?

stepdad of a friend of mine had it diagnosed around 15 years ago. Not completely sure on the specifics, since i was 10-11 at that time, but i remember they said it was everywhere and the doctors gave him 6-9 months to live.

They said the chance he would beat it was <20%. The dude is still alive, breathing and walking to this day.

You can fight it anon! Godspeed.
