Relax and try to understand the key points. It is indeed hard to grasp all entirely in one swoop.

If you really want to understand this stuff, better return to your lecture notes/textbook later several times - every time you read it you will understand more.

Alright /sci/, I need some advice.

I'm finishing my masters in comp. sci. this summer. I've specialized in AI and Machine Learning and I got an interview as a junior Data Scientist at a pretty big company. They liked me at the interview and they've sent a business case which I'm working on ATM. This is the data I have:

Costumer data about how much an individual spent during a year.
Data entries containing two of customers, a measurement of how much they shop together, and the zip code that they both share.

So I'm basically supposed to, from a pretty crude document, attempt to blow them away by finding correlations in the data and explain my line of 'business thinking'. The questions I'm supposed to answer is "What are the correlations between the attributes?" "Are customers often paired with others who have similar number of friends/money spent?" and I'm pretty lost actually.

I've created some covariance matrices to show that the variables (money spent, shopping together) are dependent. I've also done some clustering and attempted to show that the number of friends aswell as the frequency of shopping correlates to groups that reside within the same ZIP code.

How would you guys use this data? I find it really hard to apply machine learning here. I'm mostly just falling back on basic statistics.

The data is only for one year btw so no time series.
>>
PCA
t-SNE

> I'm mostly just falling back on basic statistics.

That's what data science is. People just call it machine learning as a buzzword.
>>
>>8674384

The data isn't really that high dimensional though. What exactly would I be using those algos for?

First table is just [user_id, money_spent]
Second is just the 'shopping together' entry: [first_id, second_id, ZIP_code, shopping_together_rating]

No wonder nobody takes "high level" math seriously.
>>
Take two zero dimentional point.

You now need one bit of information to describe which point you're talking about.

Simple as that
>>
>>8674253
every set is just a collection of points
that's not the point of banach tarski you dumbass

Don't think I've seen one of these threads here before. Basically ITT we talk about /sci/ themed novels.
I've just finished reading Children of Time; I thought it was a really fascinating read, tying together concepts like diety, generation ships and how alien evolution shares similarities and differences to ours. Ending was a tad rushed I would've liked some more storytelling regarding the final 'encounter'.
Anyone got any good novels like this for me? I've read the everloving fuck out of the Culture novels, they'll remain my faves for a long time would recommend to anyone!

I found a problem with maxwells equations

Lets say you have a magnetic field and its changing and the flux lines cut through a conducting loop. They you can begin with with faradays law, knowing the magnetic field you can get the emf. like the following.

[math] \varepsilon =-\frac{d \Phi }{d t}, if, \Phi =-t, then, \varepsilon =1V_{DC} [/math]

This is trivial. What is not trivial is the reciprocal scenario.

Lets say you have a battery and it outputs 1volt DC. You attach a wire to both terminals and create a closed loop. Plugging 1volt into faradays law you get that the magnetic field is the same as in the previous example but added to it is a arbitrary constant.

[math] \varepsilon =-\frac{d \Phi }{d t}, if, \varepsilon =1V_{DC}, then,\Phi =a-t [/math]

prove the second example wrong.

Measure an initial condition to find that a=0?
>>
>>8673162

This isn't a simple homework problem. Think about it. If you have a battery and connect it to a simple current loop, do you get an ever increasing magnetic field?

Connect a battery to a 1k resistor, wait as long as you want you wont get 1Tesla field out of it.
>>
>>8673113
The wire has non-zero resistance.
