Why is this allowed? What's the scientific benefit?

Imagine you had a trapdoor to your stomach on your belly and some dude would casually put his hand inside to fiddle around. How would you feel?

it is done for research, the benefit is the results of that research. the benefit for the bovine in question is youtube fame, but it is on too high of a spiritual level to care about that. i don't think that animal will have a normal lifespan.

those portholes are for research for better pastures, as they say on the video. And cows get their stomachs pierced all the time. It prevents them from getting their gut blown up due to excessive gas formation when eating. All farmers have a trocar to perform that potentially life-saving operation

It's not creepy, it's useful. These are used to do research on the cow's digestive system.

Gravity has little to do with density

What does a force have to do with mass per volume?
>>
>>8679251
The point is, this "force" does not exist.
It can not be seen, felt or measured.

Things fall because they are denser than air.

What are your thoughts of Earth Sciences (including Geology & Geophysics)? Is it a respectable field of research?

Geophysics, Atmospheric Sciences, Atmospheric Chemistry, Oceanography etc higher degrees are cool.

However you're usually better off being a real science major, like physics and chemistry then jump onto whatever field of earth science you want rather than vice versa. A BS with earth science degree usually knows a lot about the earth but a masters of none. A true pure physics major usually knows a lot about high level math, programming language, etc required to jump ship onto the cutting edge research of earth sciences.

Everybody can learn geology 101 in a week. But not everybody have the toolkit to know finite differences, numerical methods, high level scientific programming, tensor flexor calculus, etc.
>>
>>8678068
Not op but I'm a physics major interested in getting a minor in geophysics. It seems like it would be useful for something like planetary astronomy, but I know nobody else who has pursued it. Does that sound like a good direction?

I was discussing global warming with a denier, at some point this guy brought up the heat death of the universe and as a lifelong believer in catastrophic global warming I was stunned.

If you're at a beach and you watch a ship disappear into the distance, the mast will disappear last as the ship moves past the horizon. This wouldn't happen on a flat earth, and flat earthers will just ignore this when you point it out, and pivot to something retarded.

Don't worry about flat earthers online though. They're either trolls or mentally unwell, not worth letting them get to you.

If I'm driving at a constant speed into a wall, why exactly would I die if, alledgedly, F=ma? The car has no acceleration so there's no force??
77 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
>>8679075
deceleration takes place because the wall exerts a constant force on you to stop you. That is why you die.
>>
>>8679081
But if the acceleration was negative then I would be reversing into the wall?
>>
>>8679085
Do you not understand that your net force is changing in the direction opposite of the cars motion? You bave momentum so when that happens you end up hitting the cars frame at whatever speed which leads to your deatb as your body has a low tolerance for pressure and loads caused by impulse

>On Wednesday, NASA's acting administrator Robert Lightfoot sent out a memo to employees explaining that he has asked the agency to perform a study looking into what it would take for NASA to launch people on the first flight of the giant Space Launch System rocket. This rocket system, which would be the agency's most powerful yet, is currently under development.

So does anyone else forgot basic stuff that you studied in undergrad or is it just me?

The other day I couldn't set up a basic calc proof because the last time I saw one was decades ago. I just don't encounter it a lot in my field of study. Is this the drawback of specialization of the drawback of being me?

Thanks.

Do you really think that mathematicians remember stuff from undergrad? They specialize in grad school and that's all they know about. Even fucking engineers don't remember their calculus classes, and YES, this is for the smart people too that had really good grades and gave a shit about the subject. Nobody remembers all of that shit. You just need to UNDERSTAND it so you can move onto something more complicated/specific or whatever. This is a pretty bad misconception that probably keeps a lot of people out of math, which is a drag.
>>
>>8682065

You remember what you need, you remind yourself of everything else if you ever run into it again and need it.
>>
>>8682144
I just felt kind of insecure when I couldn't set up the proof by myself. I thought I could because it's very basic stuff relative to what I do daily but I was struggling.
But you're right, it's more important to understand than to simply memorize. Once I saw the proof, I could follow and understand it quickly. I just felt kinda "mediocre" for not being able to set up the proof myself. Maybe I just put too much (unrealistic) pressure on myself.

Thanks for your reply.

So today my data structures professor gave me a punishment for sharing a c++ program with a partner who had the idea of sending that program as his own. He knows it was my program, so both of us are now in the "complexity 2 program" meaning we're doom to fail the subject (my professor said no one has ever passed the complexity 2 program).

The c++ program had two classes (node and stack) with stack's functions (insert, extract, show) and that was all.

The whole course covers from how to create stacks, queues and lists to k-ary trees. There are hash functions and stuff we're going to review but not fully implement (I know he review stuff like MD5 algorithm).

It seems like I'm fucked up but I don't think it's going to be that hard. Do you guys have some recommendations of topics/books/sites I should review in order to learn some complete applications with data structures? I've been finding nice theory on internet but some recommendations are well received. I usually review between two and three books on the same topic to confirm that whatever I'm learning is right.

I know It's my fault for giving away a simple code but I'll face it, I don't want to fall without demonstrating I can code data structures and solve problems with it, I don't hold a grudge against my professor btw, he is one of the best my uni have.

Most I can finish is two sides.

People who can solve these just memorize an algorithm to do it. Also getting a side doesn't necessarily mean you're closer to solving the whole thing
>>

>People who can solve these just memorize an algorithm to do it.
True for most people
>Also getting a side doesn't necessarily mean you're closer to solving the whole thing
False if you start with zero faces solved
>>
>>8680434
Most algos don't solve one side, then work on the next one
They start on one side (say white), and then work their way up the cube to opposite side (which would be yellow in our case)

I can solve to the second level, but I hate memorizing things I can look up so I get stuck there

Do you support the notion of multiple intelligences?

If so, what intelligence is most important to an ever-evolving society. What intelligence is most important right now, for us humanoids.

If so, rank your top 3 favorite intelligences.

IQ tests only measure the Logical/Mathematical and Visual/Spacial I believe.

Probably Those would be my favorites since they come in handy all the time.

It will always be important to have a mixture of all of these.

And this. This is why I don't like IQ tests even though I do well at them. I am fully aware of the type of smart I am.

That's why, in my opinion, those should be what "intelligence" is. This "musical intelligence" and "sports intelligence" should be "talents" instead.
