What's the difference between:

1) A sphere.

2) A circle rotating along a diameter in a three dimensional space at an infinite speed.

rotational momentum
>>
>>7810080
>infinite speed
No such thing and not in terms of "that can't be" (we're talking about a 2d shape taking up 3d volume by rotation, being impossible in a real world sense isn't a factor) but because it doesn't make sense. Infinite isn't a quantity.

At an arbitrarily large speed?

One is a solid body and the other is a rotating 2D shape.

As for what differences this makes, think in terms of stuff like density and mass.
>>
>>7810080
The difference is that one would be perfectly safe to touch, while the other would make your finger permanently invisible.

I know I said I wouldn't make anymore "tobacco isn't bad for you" threads but one last time I'm laying down this passive smoking issue on here. Secondhand smoke is not a real health risk unless you have a tobacco allergy or something similar.

http://www.davehitt.com/facts/index.html

It's pretty clear that /sci/ will believe whatever someone in a position of power tells them, even though the evidence is clear that a lot of the data showing a link between secondhand smoke and disease is flawed. Most SHS studies are based on the EPA/WHO/surgeon "tobacco products should be banned" general's information or info from Stanton Glantz, which is biased crap. Most of the people against secondhand smoke also absurdly think that vaping is harmful.

Anyway, you can all go back to thinking its an incredible health threat of you want. I thought I could maybe convince a science board otherwise and get people to look at the discrepancies but I guess I can't. I won't be bothering anyone on this board anymore.

>major in math and minor in computer science

will this truly keep me above the wave of saturation in the academia and industry?

Congrats, you are practically a shoe in for a sales position at Best Buy™ with those credentials

I work for a recruiting company, but my job let's me know about many other people's jobs while unfortunately barely advancing at my own.

A major in math and knowledge of computers is quite flexible. I don't think you'll ever be stuck for work, but if you're determined to find a special niche, whether it be research or in a job, you'll have to carefully select your first entry level position or your next degree in education.

Math means you're a bright cookie, true or not. You just need to find out what you'd like to specialize in, which is hard, because how can you know before getting to the position? Well anyways, you have three years out of college until you start finding difficulty in specializing and getting entry positions.

May I ask what you'd like to do?

i'd like to try graphics programming to develop 3DCG applications that improve rendering times, verlet integration for cloth and hair, and so on. anything CGi oriented is what i'd like to do for the CS minor side.

on the math side, i like nonlinear PDEs and nonlinear functional analysis, and would like to contribute in those areas research-wise.

i just can't decide which hence my major/minor plan.

It's a TERRIBLE, HORRIBLE idea to self study analysis from Rudin.

First study calculus from something like stewart + mit ocw lectures. Then read a book on proofs like "How to prove it, a structured approach". Then you can start with analysis. Terence Tao's Analysis I and II are amazing books that guide you through the process of understanding formal math as well as giving you a construction of the number sets and a nice description of naive set theory which is amazing to have early on.

do NOT fall for the rudin meme. it's an amazing and concise reference book but it is notoriously terrible for self study

I have to integrate pic related and I got to the infinite series at the bottom. I already know that the limit is pi/2, but how do I prove it using this fucking Taylor series? I can't use double integrals, only this shit and Wolfram Alpha redirects me to Si(x) and I can't do anything with that. My calculus exam is at stake. Pls help /sci/

How much power does a led emitting 6000 mcd of 465 nm blu light in a 20 degrees angle converts into luminous energy (Watts)? All the light the led emits is captured, so I don't care how wide the beam is, just how many watts I can gather.
I tried searching for led efficiency but all I find is lumen/watt. The problem is that it is calculated for 550 nm light, and I don't know how to calculate that for blue light. Any ideas?

What are some good specific transferable skills and sciences to land a top tier job?

I will start with the most obvious, even though I'm going to study biology:

Whats a top tier job?
If youre talking about money earning then the finance sector/entrepreneur is the only way to go. Every thing else will only make you a salary.

If youre talking about difficulty then thats more research science type stuff, breaking new ground and having to invent new ways of thinking.

Otherwise i dont really understand what you mean by top tier. Wow-ing other people? Be special forces or a fighter pilot.
Working with nature? Be a ranger or photographer

Theres no real answer here is there op

There are 100 start ups.

Each of them succeeds with a 1% probability.

Q1) What is the probability that one of the startups succeeds?

Q2) What is the probability that one or more of the startups succeed?

I'm looking for a way to get from

[eqn]\mu\frac{\partial^2X}{\partial t^2}+EI\frac{\partial^4X}{\partial x^4}=0[/eqn]

to

[eqn]L^4\frac{\partial^2K}{\partial t^2}+T^2\frac{\partial^4K}{\partial x^4}=0[/eqn]

where X is displacement, and K curvature. Also do you know how to add non-linear terms to that eqaution?

How important is charisma when it comes to landing a job?

There is this one kid in my class who is incredibly smart but he is really antisocial and it had me thinking of this theoretical situation. Persona A is being interviewed for a job for Big Boy corporation. He did incredibly well in his classes and was in the top 100 at his uni. This person however is a massive sperg and is incredibly awkward at the interview. Person B went to the same university and pursued the same degree but only achieved average grades. He did also have internships relating to the field as well but not as much as person A. He is however has superior social skills and is incredibly extroverted.

Who gets the job?

Person B, hands down.
A person is no good if they cannot work with others.
I interviewed engineers at Berkeley for Boeing, and I turned down a guy with a 3.98 in EECS because he was such a pain to interview/speak with.

Well, I've took around 1000hs in this draw since I have the brokenst english you can imagine

Basically, there are those 9 balls, i want to know the probability of take the the 3 and the 6

They are introduced in a bag and you take two of them without see what are you taking, I suppose is the same take them one by one or take the two at the same time

Well, the draw says what i think is right, but I am not complety sure....anyway, in the worst case, it would be less than 2/9 right?

Can somebody help me with this?

Well, I've taken around 1000 hours to complete this drawing because I have the most broken English you can imagine.

Basically, there are 9 balls. I want to know the probability of taking the 3-Ball and the 6-Ball.

They are mixed in the bag, and you can take two of them at random. It does not matter if you take them one by one or both at the same time.

Well the drawing says what I think is right, but I am not completely sure. Anyways, 2/9 would be the best probability you have, right?

Can somebody help me with this?
>>
>>7811282

yes your right. now get off from board before you introduce more broking english. and also do not say goodbye please or thank you. i think mine english got more brokenst just from reading OP
>>
>>7811300
Why are you so mean?

I only wanted to know about the ball's problem, i do not really care if my english is shit or if your english goes "brokenst", people can understand me, at least the first guy, who made fun of me

I thought this would be a fast thing to solve, you know, make a drawing, explain the problem, show a solution and wait for someone to tell me if I am right or not
