America has had these since 2003.

even though you might be sexually attracted to them because of your own autism, i'd strongly advise against zoophilia. this is how we got aids, remember?
someone told me that self awareness of our own thoughts is like half a second slower than when they show up in an mri. Is this true? He said if he reacted fast enough he could say what i was going to say, thus stealing my trick.
Yes, it's true. Just google the studies.

>He said if he reacted fast enough he could say what i was going to say, thus stealing my trick.
It's must've been some sort of asshole who told you that. That's literally impossible.
The mind is a series of layers, a lot of what happens is actually automatic or handled by the subconscious. The conscious is only consulted when the subconscious doesn't have pre-programmed responses to a stimulus or situation.
A common example of this is when you are driving and you suddenly "wake up" and you're almost at your destination. Your subconscious has the basics of driving down to where you don't need to make a conscious decision for every little action. If an event occurs that the subconscious cannot handle, your consciousness is then consulted. This is when you "notice" something.
The consciousness has a lot to do - it doesn't rely on the ease of pre-programming to respond to situations. Instead, it consults memories, experiences, cross-referencing it with other examples and similar situations to come to a consensus and ends up with a course of action (or no action if you are actively trying to suppress functions that normally occur at a lower level). All this processing takes time, all the while the lower-level functions are doing their best to handle the situation, so you're not completely immobilized/zonked out while making a conscious decision - this is why you don't really notice the 0.5 sec delay.
There is a neat video/series of videos that explains this quite well - I'll try to dig it up.
How can one man be so based?

what's it like holding a PhD? what kind of hardships do you go through for a postdoc? is it just "research these areas of mathematics and see if you come up with something." or "if you don't find something by the end of this term i'm going to kick you to the curb."? i always hear about people being pressured, but i'm confused. don't you usually go into a postdoc already having a thesis or some papers in an area? or is that uncommon? what's the frequency for publishing theses on average for you guys?
nobody who has a phd, or atleast a successful one, is here
so the response you will get biased towards losers and retards
>>7811661
be that as it may, i'm hoping someone would at least have some insight due to unbiased research at their respective institutions.
You go into a phd if either you love masochism, are misguided, are golden boy with a fat stipend from some organization, or you are a foreigner.
No other reason.

Anyone who talks about cold fusion gets perma banned by academia. Can /sci/ please explain this to me? Pic related is bubble fusion utilizing the phenomenon of sonoluminesense in water with high frequency waves. Temperatures can reach >20,000K or 4 times that of the Sun!
>>7811629
>20,000K or 4 times that of the Sun!
20,000K or 4 times that of the SURFACE of the Sun! The core of the Sun is 15 million K, where the actual fusion happens. No idea how that works for or against cold fusion. Just felt the need to point that out. Isn't cold fusion supposed to work at room temperature? In that case, I fail the see why you compared the temperature to the surface of the Sun, as a some sort of argument for cold fusion. They're wholly different approaches to fusion.
>>7811635
its all theory m8
the temperature of the sun's INTERIOR has never really been measured experimentally

>>7811629
>Anyone who talks about cold fusion gets perma banned by academia
They don't. Its just not a very popular since one really understands how it could work, although there are a few groups still working on it. Really it became tainted after and experiment in the 80s by pons and Fleischmann, basically of was a clusterfuck. After that research into 'cold fusion' effectively stopped.
Ok so lets be honest
what are the chances of this actually working?
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/science/head-transplant-has-been-successfully-done-on-a-monkey-maverick-neurosurgeon-sergio-canavero-claims-a6822361.html
Exactly the same as the EM drive.
It's an extraordinary coincidence, so the infinitesimal variables have actually been used in conjunction with one another to calculate near light speed equations.
>>7811591
Head transplantation is entirely possible provided you can prevent immunorejection and reconnect severed nerves.
As for this claim specifically, wait former the people involved to publish something before jumping to any conclusions.

Is cryptology the most autistic division of math? I mean how can someone crack a simple message like "XY12076RDLNAKQT34262118MCGZOVFSUHE21814514JWPBI" without tapping into the powers of pure distilled autism and not give up after 2 minutes.

Git gud, pleb faggot.
It's not like they're actually "translating" it in their heads or anything
Also it's not what cryptologists do

Alright /sci/ I've been looking at RITEG tech for a while now and I've been wondering this. Besides the half life of under 3 years is there any other reason Fe-55 shouldn't be used?

well, as long as you aren't trying to put it inside your damn car or using it to power your microwave.
half life 3 confirmed

It's a weak gamma (xray) emitter. Xrays don't heat things very well - that's why most RTGs use alpha or beta emitters.

I was typing an explanation and accidentally hit previous page and lost everything, fuck this.
Just read this article:

Greetings /phil/.
On the topic of driverless cars, a debate emerged regarding a car which would, in an unavoidable one set of people die or another set of people die scenario, will opt for the least net loss in human life, including the possibility of killing the cars occupant.
One side argues that the car would be a huge success as, other than in finitely many scenarios, the car would be less likely to be involved in accidents involving human injury.
The other side posits that the car would not sell well at all as the existence of a pre-programmed scenario in which the car chooses to kill the occupant is not a desirable selling point of the vehicle.
I'm shitposting this here as /his/ is filled with "religion is a mental illness" threads. What do you think of the situation.
>>7811109
It depends on what the car is programmed to do. Keep in mind that it is extremely hard for a robot to recognize people in the first place.
There is no /phil/ board and religion is a mental illness
>>7811120
The specific instance was "you're in the car alone when two people walk into the road. Without adequate stopping distance and being unable to maneuver out of the path of the pedestrians without killing the driver, the car chooses to ram itself into a wall, killing the driver, to ensure the least net loss of human life."
Basically, high school level "deep" philosophy. I'm ashamed to be part of the debate at this point but I'll be damned if I'm backing down now.
>>7811109
Since it is really hard for a robot vehicle to differentiate people from say a concrete wall, a bunch of realistic statues, or debris that has fallen on the road, the vehicle should take a course of action which will minimize damage to itself and it's occupant.
