So I don't get /out/ much but I figured this was the only place people might know what's going on or how to help.
Today I just noticed a small, white mushroom growing inside my White's tree frog's tank. It wasn't there yesterday when I fed and watered him, and I haven't been around all day, so it has to be new.
It looks kinda similar to pic related except it's tiny, its stalk is a whole lot thicker, and the head has a brown spot in the very center. Everything else is white as snow. I can't take pictures right now because reasons.
I did some looking around google and couldn't find any results on what the mushroom is or if my frog is gonna die or not. I moved him into a plastic reptile travel carrier I keep for backup. This is the first time this has happened in the 7 years he's been with me and I don't want my battletoad to die from a stupid ass mushroom.
I live in UT, USA. Hopefully that helps thin down the list of possible mushrooms. I don't leave my house often and not many people enter the room I keep the frog in, except me. So I somehow brought a spore into the environment. Anyone here know their 'shrooms (wild ones of course) and know if me or my frog should be concerned? He did touch it briefly while I chased him around trying to move him to the new cage, but I didn't touch it.

I'm no mycologist, but you should take a photo of it, then take a spore print. That would definitely help in identification for those on the board who know their stuff.

After that, if I were you I'd just clean and sterilize the tank and take a few extra steps in the process to ensure it's squeaky clean.
>>

>clean and sterlize the tank
I'll do my best but they say not to use cleaning agents when cleaning tanks for amphibians. Some reptiles are fine but amphibians, especially frogs, drink water through their skin so they're more susceptible to chemicals and chemical residue, especially chlorine in the water. I have to use special drops in his pitcher of water to eliminate chlorine and other shit, and when I clean the tank I have to use a hose then let it completely dry.
I have no idea where I can take a spore print of it, I'm not a mycologist either. I just know basic shit I read in grade school. I'll definitely take some pics tomorrow, I'll upload if I can. I'll make another thread if I have to really. It's almost midnight though, that's half of my "because reasons"
>>
>>771933
Oh and I forgot, there's this stuff called Eco Earth that's made of dried coconut shavings and shit that I use for the dirt layer in the bottom of the tank, so it's not legitimate dirt. There is one dead cricket and some frog excrement in there so I guess it could thrive if he splashes water out of his bowl everywhere. I just never thought actual spores would get in there, it's a terrarium.
Also, most of the decorations I keep in there have been in there for the entire time I've had him (washing regularly of course). The most recent addition was a holographic backdrop I attached to the outside of the tank and I bought it from a pet store.

I'm looking into getting an Osprey Atmos Backpack. I'm trying to decide between the 50 L and the 65 L. I'm a noob looking to backpack, and don't exactly have ultralight gear. I have a Zephyr 3 that I'll be lugging around.

Also, looking for an affordable sleeping bag to slap in there, thinking maybe Kelty Cosmic Down 20/21 or The North Face Cat's Meow. Which of these, or would you recommend something different for < $150?
13 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Get the 65L. the 50 will limit you to weekend trips.

Cant give you advice on those bags
>>
>>774257
I think the the real difference is the 65 has a front compartment. Look at pics and youll see the zipper. If you want to go light don't get the 65 or you'll find a way to fill it.
>>
>>774257
Cat's Meow is super comfy. I tried on an Atmos, but it was BIG. I don't do really long trips, just a night or two. I ended up going with the Kestrel 38. If you don't do super long trips, the Atmos will be too big. The Kestrel is comfy, and much heavier duty material than the Talon or Atmos line.

I want to up and leave. Drop everything and go walk the planet. I'm so sick and tired of just being another cog in the machine.

I plan on saving up €1000 or so before leaving. I'm from Scandinavia so thinking of hitchhiking to the mediterranean, then catch a hitch on a cargo ship set for asia.

My plan is to panhandle as much as possible, and live off cheap grains that I can cook in my trangia.

Anyone have any tips for not dying en route?

Anon you need to step up your game.

Anyway, hitchhinkingb to the Med will not be difficult you just need to find the right people but catching a ride with a cargo ship will not be easy. They have to follow rules and you are another person for them to look for. Also they'll not feed you for free.
>>
>>773914
You have no idea how fucking horrible the Scandinavian way of life is if you don't fit 100% in. Yes, everything is good and well, but ONLY if you're willing to get a job fast so you can start paying back to society.

And I was of course planning on working on board the ship to pay my fare.

I'm thinking on a 3 day hike, instead of bringing 6L of water, would I be able to substitute 3L with pepsi max? Or is that a bad idea?

Also, should I bring money in a sock or something?

How about bringing a waterfilter?
>>

You're better off bringing about 4L of mountain dew

Pack around $200 in 1's into the sock you wear in your boots, that should see you through, there are plenty of places to stop and spend on the trails

Why doesn't it work if you put the little metal bits on the corners into the poles?

Take the metal pins on those rings at eah corner and put them into the bottom of the poles.

Have anyone here done WWOOF?

Is it possible to sign up, go somewhere, and basically just stay there for an undetermined amount of time until I save up enough money for my next ticket somewhere?

I'm WWOOFing right now in Norway and I've been to 7 different WWOOF hosts across Europe. AMA.

How much did you save up before going?

How long do hosts usually let you stay?

Any problems with doing it?
>>
>>773041
>How much did you save up before going?

I should specify further that I'm from England and that I've been WWOOFing for more-or-less a year at different places. I only saved up about £1000 (about $1500) because if you're primarily doing WWOOFing, then there isn't much expenditure apart from transportation. As the WWOOF contract states, the host will be looking after all the food and accommodation which is one of the more expensive parts of travelling. The further your host from you, the more you'll have to save up.

A flight to most European destinations from London is in the range of £20-£200. Further afield and you're looking at prices that could exceed £1000. Most WWOOF farms are rural so you'll probably need to get a bus or a train which could cost anywhere from £5-£100.

TL;DR: It depends on where you go, but you shouldn't need a lot apart from transportation.

>How long do hosts usually let you stay?

It depends a lot on the host. Some of them will want WWOOFers to stay for two weeks at most, while others will want them to stay for over six months and sometimes stays for a year are not too uncommon. WWOOF hosts usually state how long they want WWOOFers for on their profile.

There's an average, though, and it's about two weeks to a month. I'd say 80% of WWOOFers I've met have stayed for that duration.

TL;DR: It depends on the host, but most WWOOFers stay for two weeks to a month.

>Any problems with doing it?

Absolutely.

Sometimes the hosts get really tired because of some external event and that causes tension. Sometimes the host you get to is actually a WWOOFer slave-labour camp. Sometimes it's actually other WWOOFers that are the problem, mostly the 'tourist-for-free' types that demand days off all the time and are generally uninterested in the daily activities at the host.

What are your summer plans? Anyone going /out/ abroad?
I want to go /out/ing Sweden during a couple weeks but I'm afraid of finding out that memes are real and get disappointed. Is it better to play it safe and go to Finland/Norway instead? I'm going alone btw.

Anyway use this thread to discuss about your summer. If you want to do so.
