why did you have to make a thread about this op
honestly
I'd say "a thread died for this" but every /o/ thread is worthless garbage anyway
> not making a high speed zamboni
> not preparing for the ice age
Who here /bimmer/? I need some advise on what engine I should get on the e90/e92. I plan on getting a Jb4 with some bolt'ons but probably wont go FBO since it will be my daily and will need it to last 2-3 years.
Should I get an N54 with 73k miles and cross fingers that everything was replaced and fixed and I dont have an 80k miles surprise headed my way. OR should I get the N54 with 100k miles for much cheaper and since the miles is up there I am more confident that the turbos, HPFP, Vanos and other bullshit was already taken care of.
Or since Im not really gonna go balls to the walls with FBO and tune should I just get the more reliable and newer N55 w/ 70k miles for like 1k more.
I heard the N54 is Goat when it comes to tuning but the N55 has reliability on its side. 15k budget.
how do I make my shitty n53 more powerful
The N54 is not bad. My buddy has a 195k mile N54 335i, he has owned it since new, he replaced the spark plugs and some other small things under warranty, now he's running at slightly increased psi, pushing about 360hp, he's very happy with the car.

just buy an e46. tuning is a waste of money.
Anyone have experience with these 07+ Saab 9-3's? Don't know much about them other than the 2.0t is pretty quick. I can get a good condition one for 4k and it looks like "go fast mods" are straightforward and cheap.
The one in the OP is a 2003-2007 not 2007+. 2.0t is low pressure baby turbo, 2.0T is high pressure TD04. They're cheap, safe, quiet & will wax any Jetta it rolls up to.
>>17434357
>modding a shitbox
>racing some shitbox jetta
Grow the fuck up. It's a fine daily. Or you could get a civic for 3k. Save your money and keep it stock.
>>17435521
>$150 for 70 HP increase is childish
Thank you, I learn more everyday.
I honestly don't know how people like sponsors just notice some faggot out of the blue and says: "hey kid wanna race for us we will pay you to drive a car really fast!" And then I'm stuck trying to find a job where I can just drive I just don't get it br/o/s
I think Porsche has something on their website that outlines exactly how you do it. As far as I know, there aren't scouters at track meets trying to find good drivers lol, it's more you go to a competitive driving school and get licensed, then start going to events and try to get sponsors.
Paid to drive:
>Porter
>Parts Delivery
>Pizza Delivery
Racing:
>Get involved at local track
>join the club
>start racing
>start small and move up, karts/kit cars to full track cars etc
>keep racing
>learn different driving styles and approach lines, further develop racing theory
Most of the time you don't just have some talent agent or sponsor happen upon you and throw an offer in your lap. Participate in races and try and make good placement in final races, even if it isn't on podium. You'll get noticed for how clean you race, how fast your laps are, and how little risk you put the car in danger. Taking corners smooth and preserving tires will also show for itself.
I get paid to drive.... a forklift.
soviet-era / communist balkan cars
people say they're easy to maintain cause you still see em driving around everywhere. can you actually easily get parts for old LADAs/Zastavas?
has anyone ever worked on an old vaz2101? I'm thinking about picking one up.

BEST FERRARI
>>17434142
I get hard thinking about those cars, they were meant to last the nuclear holocaust,
not to die because of Planned Obsolescence after 2 years.
The old soviet-fiat 126 stopped production only a decade ago, in central europe they cost next to nothing.
There is nothing wrong with this car apart from the price.
>>17433871
Yep, agreed
Front end looks like shit, but I mostly agree.

Thanks. Look how sexy it is from the sides.
What do you guys think of the opinions of normals?

ITT: autistic things you do with your car
>whenever I enter a parking lot I push my clutch in and rev the engine twice as a way of announcing my vehicle's entry in with the others
>always park far away from everyone else so no one parks near me
>talk to my car while I wash it, pretending like we're bonding
>make machine sounds when I change gears, pretend I'm driving military equipment like a huge tank

>whenever I enter a parking lot I push my clutch in and rev the engine twice as a way of announcing my vehicle's entry in with the others
I do this but just to hear my car
>always park far away from everyone else so no one parks near me
Definitely do this
>talk to my car while I wash it, pretending like we're bonding
I don't do this, but that sounds cute.
>make machine sounds when I change gears, pretend I'm driving military equipment like a huge tank
I have never tried this before
Things I do
>avoid dragging feet on rocker panels at all cost
>have a very specific order for getting in the car: open door - sit - buckle - turn key and wait for fuel pump to prime - clutch in - move to neutral - start car - let warm up - parking brake down
>keep RPMs low until engine warms up
>look back at it whenever I park, sometimes just go out into the garage to walk around it
>>17433711
you dumbass you didn't close the car door
>>17433649
I think you may be mentally unhinged.
So what's the closest thing you can get to a Twingo in north america ?
I'm a frenchfag and we had twongis everywhere in France, but since I moved to Leafland I miss seeing its silly face whenever I'd go out. All I see are angry cars and I feel depressed.
What's an american car that has the same features as a twingo : a shitbox that's inexpensive, cheap to maintain, smol and silly look ? Pic probably related
>>17433141
Canadia's import restriction is only 15 years. You can legally import one.
Find a JDM importer around you, you might get a weird look when you say you want a Twingo but they do all the legwork for you. Finding one, getting it here, registering it, everything. They're so cheap that you might as well pay the fees for them to do it instead of the headache of getting it done yourself.
Since your restriction is 15 years, you can get a 98-02 model, which is improved over the 93-97 in a bunch of ways. Safer, better and less archaic engine, banana dials, etc. Definitely do that if you can.
Geo Metro but I don't think it'd come close since Twingo is RWD and the Geo Metro is basically the god of FWD econoboxes
>>17433154
Ameriburg here: is it possible/feasible to import a Twingo via canada and then from canada into the US? I'm sure someone's thought of this for other memecars like the GT-R
What's the worst car accident that you have had?
for me when I first got my license I went into park next to a shopping cart bay. I pulled in but my rear passenger door scrapped into the cart bay. just by the rear wheel.
felt bad man. and because of that experience I have never parked forwards in the 10 years I have been driving. it PTSD'd me
I will always back into a spot
Was driving down a narrow country road and met a Mondeo whose trailer unhitched and crossed to my side of the road totalled the front of my car.
Trailer had a smallish woodstove in it, strapped thankfully.
98 Nissan almera had finished the repayments like a month before this
>>17431312
Rear ended by a girl who was texting on her phone and didn't see that the light was red. Was a hard hit but didn't damage the frame, bumper and exhaust were fucked though.
Thankfully that's the worst accident I've been in and I hope I never have to experience anything worse every single time I get into my car to drive
>>17431312
Hit the ditch at 50 in my old Saturn wagon. Black ice on a curve. I managed to keep it on 4 wheels, but I took out a barb wire fence. Scratched the hell out of the car, but was otherwise driveable after.
Lucked out.
If you had the money would you buy a hmmwv?
No because its been beat on for who knows how long and fed shitty general purpose fuel.
hell no
maybe a 'mog if i wanted a military vehicle
No. wtf would I do with it? It's too hard to park and uses too much gas to daily it, you can't really haul anything in it, if I wanted an off roader I'd get a wrangler.
You're parked behind a bush and see 7 different vehicles driving down the highway at unsafe speeds...
>teenage girl in a rusting old econobox
>young male with a ball-cap in an obviously-modified hot hatch with loud exhaust
>rich looking man in a suit driving an expensive German sports car
>fat guy in a tank top in a full-size pick up with a lift kit on it
>mother in a big 7-seat SUV with a couple kids in the back
>middle age black man driving a American muscle car
>old guy in a full-size sedan
Which one do you pull over?
>>17430272

Moog is a little overbearing but he has his funny moments, and is nowhere near as bad as RCR.
Marty knows his shit.
I like them.
MOITY CAH MAWDS
you've insulted my show, my family, and I'm done with you mate
Do you work on your own car? What's the most difficult thing you have done to it?
honestly i dont change my oil but i have done a tranny flush.
i have done struts, stainless brake lines, and one wheel bearing, and front wishbone bushings.
nothing else broke
i have regeared diffs. this is the most shitty job on a car.
the oil smells terrible
you cant keep clean
pinion nut is on 500ft lbs
CRUSH SLEEVES
many shims
and the hard part, getting a good pattern by somehow trying to make the carrier not spin
>>17426918
Yep.
Hardest thing I had to deal with was a 4wd blazer suspension, we did ball joints, a control arm, and it had a torsion bar that was an absolute pain in the ass.
